Lots of vendors have 'old' stuff around, or get stuff from other places where they may have a lot of older tubs around.I'll check my local shops and see if I can find a newer tub. I suppose I'm willing to roll the dice again with ~$10. I really want to see what all the hoo haa about AF Grape is. The 50g boxes I got a couple months back were basically gross IMO. They were dated Feb 2008 IIRC.
Giant Ninja Robot
yeah i guess you're right unless I get it from a col vendor who doesnt mind checking the date for me.I have bought supplies locally like 3 times all year lol

It has kind of an odd tang that you have to either love or hate, and most people love it. And Scoop, the cut on mine is still the Fusion-style cut, only not as mushy. Very tiny. But it smokes fine oddly enough. Edited November 18, 2008 by Hippo_Master
slingham
What was the issue with it? I just picked some up last week that had a july mfg date I believe. I think it tastes pretty good but it definately has a distinct smell. My fiance won't even let me smoke it when she's around cause she says it smells horrible. I thought it was normal but maybe not. Hippo_Master
First off, I don't even have a friend that likes the smell of normal AF Grape. Now, the ketchup smell is completely noticeable and identifiable right away as ketchup. You will not think of anything else. The normal grape is very distinct, but if you have one of those sensitive noses, and you detect smells very well, you will ALWAYS smell ketchup. Occasionally, with my good batch, i get ketchup taste and smell and I have to dump the bowl. I like the flavor when I like it, but sometimes for whatever reason, I despise it. It's a strict like or dislike usually. It's actually pretty close to acquiring a taste for wine... Some people, when they smell wine, only get the pungent alcohol aroma that puts them off, and when they taste it the taste isn't much different and is impossible to enjoy. Yet others, maybe some who drink wine regularly or happen to be lucky i suppose, only pick up the light fruit aromas, and maybe the possible "wine" flavor.Honestly, they should just rename it White Zinfandel. They could get away with it. Edited November 18, 2008 by Hippo_Master
Barnaby
I just got some AF grape from h-s.com. I forget offhand what month it was, but it is 2008. I cannot vouch for how it used to be, as this was the first time I tried it. If anyone saw my other thread on some AF Sweet Melon I got, that was completely rancid, I also got this grape at the same time. The cut is less mushy than the 2007 melon I got, and there seems to be slightly less stems. I've had only 1 grape before and that was from layalina. It smelt how I expected it to, and it smoked very well. It is extremely sweet though, but it had a great taste. All and all, pretty good stuff, and nothing remotely near the horror stories I have heard about it.
