Banning Of All Flavored Tobacco In The Us

This bill passed today and President Obama signed it into law. I am suprised I haven't seen anything about this prior to yesterday. It was snuck in last minute from what I understood. Phillip Morris was a large supporter for this bill. I wonder how much it cost them to have it put into the bill. Looks like we have 3 months from TODAY to stock up on as much shisha as you can get your hands on. Look like my rent will be late, and I'm going hungry for the next two months.

I hope that this is challanged by Shisha companies and Hookah lounges across the US. Oh yeah, Hookah lounges may have to close their doors and it would be illegal to have flavored tobacco...but hey, booze it up all you want, just don't have any flavor in your tobacco.

I guess I'm gonna have to learn how to make my own shisha.

Please see page 4. This bill will most likely BAN all shisha on the market in the USA, land of the "free".
Tobacco Product Standards and Menthol Exception: The bill establishes new standards for

tobacco products that restrict the additives that can be included in cigarettes. Beginning three

months after the date of enactment, cigarettes cannot include characterizing flavors except

menthol. This is an important exception because menthol is the most widely used flavoring in

cigarettes (accounting for more than one-quarter of the market) and menthol-flavored cigarettes

are the most popular product for African-Americans.9\

Actually there have been multiple threads about this bill, though I'm lazy to search for them now.

also, if its actually worded like that, I believe it is specific enough to cigarettes and may not apply to shisha

That's what the bill says? Mentions african americans? Just like that? and since they prefer menthol cigarettes to other flavors, then because of that, they'll allow menthol cigs...because the president is half black?....or....what the hell am I missing...

No bill should ever say "most popular product for such n such a race"...racist bill. blah. racist against white people...what's the white person's preferred flavor of cigarette? Oh wait, there just aren't enough of us anymore I guess. :-/

The text was taken directly from the bill. It says all flavored tobacco, and it sounds like it will affect chewing tobacco (incl snus, dip, and chew) as well as shisha....let's hope it does not.

I did a search but couldn't find any other info...but it WAS passed into law as of today. I'm so ashamed of obama right now.

If you look in the "Noteworthy" section on the first page you see this text:

QUOTE
The Secretary of Health and Human Services will not be allowed to ban existing tobacco products or lower nicotine levels to zero.

This means that any tobacco products that are currently on the market, will stay on the market...

Please tell me what the bill is for then? I guess just flavored dip? Hmm...as long as it doesn't interfere with my shisha (which it won't), I'm good.

I dont think theres any reason to worry. It only speaks about cigarettes practically the whole bill. But Im sure now they just created an illegal black market for cigarettes, which will result in increase of crime. Good job all_coholic.gif

Good thing I don't smoke cigarettes. I don't get the point of the ban though, as most people don't smoke flavored cigarettes...does the bill include cigars? The foo-foo flavored cigars rawk, though I don't smoke those often.

They obviously didn't look to see what the #1 flavored tobacco for white people was. That I don't get either. Nor latino, etc...

And the point of making a ban with a single flavor being "ok"?....It's like saying..."you can't speed...but if your car is green--because [such and such a race/ethnicity] drive mostly green cars--, then you can speed."

You're trying to apply logic to a scenario that's governed by closed-door deals, payoffs and general corruption smile.gif

oh also looking at the legislation it looks like the worst case scenario would be that no flavoring could be added 3 months after the signing of the bill..which means we have 3 months to find out what exactly this means for us. Also worst come to worse I think Shisha companies would just ship DIY shisha. You could receive the tobacco and the flavoring un-mixed and simply mix it together and let it acclimate.

I've read the legislation. I'm not worried. I don't think any of you should be, either. The only stupid part of the legislation is banning flavored cigarettes, specifically flavored cigarettes. There is a section in the legislation that involves putting an ingredient list on each package and it says that flavoring doesn't need to be spelled out any more than natural and artificial flavorings...that is the ingredients of flavorings don't need to be spelled out...why would they do that if they were banning flavoring?? The legislation is fairly clear and it doesn't deal with pipe tobacco (hookah tobacco) at all. I mean, in any capacity, pipe tobacco isn't covered in any restrictive regulations, just real safety ones, with the rest of tobacco.

The U.S. Media is full of shit. They like to whip up BS controversy for its own sake and they don't care about reporting facts. They intentionally distort, lie, misrepresent and twist what really is the case. When you see the results of what this legislation does, remember me saying this and you will never trust the media again, because the results will be mostly good, a little bad, but it won't interfere with hookah tobacco.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'll be selling Tangiers foundation and flavoring separately. Not worth worrying about.
