Scoop
So after watching Eric pack the bowls again, I'm pretty sure I've mastered it as well. Basically, just overpack and fold the top mix down on itself just to create a flat surface. I dont do the holes the same as eric though, he puts a lot of decent sized holes, i mean not too big, basically the pricks of an oyster fork. i make small knife slits, not nearly as many either. using the easy lights, 3 pieces next to each other right in the middle of the bowl makes it perfect.ive tried it 3 times with kiwi (awesome), brambleberry (awesome), green apple candy (awesome). all of them have been perfect. smokes like crazy.as soon as the coals die, i put 3 more on. still good.i got some pics but am at work. ill try to post them up later. This is for the small phunnel btw.

Scoop
yep. it seems like a lot indeed...however it was perfect.i tried it with 3 diamante finger coals, prolly about 1.5inch - 2inch long? and it worked out just as well, however they ash over real quick and its all sulphurous ash

aldonb1
looks like you have the coals almost over the center hole... i thought this was not kosher...or am i just terrible at looking at that pic.nice cloud btw
Scoop
you should have seen it when it actually got hot. it worked fine even if the not kosher. smoking brambleberry the same way right now.
jamesh2
waitdoes this mean that i cant put under the amount of a typical bowl?
symptom CY
Man, my Tangiers has been smoking great lately. I don't know if it's the weather or what but here's what I've been doing -- I pack the bowl by dropping a glob of tobacco on top of the bowl and spreading it around to fit the shape of the funnel. Foil with a moderate amount of holes evenly distributed, maybe about 4 small ones in the center. I'm finding 3 40mm Three Kings halves to be about the perfect amount of heat for the small funnel. It can be a little much at first, so it can be necessary to keep the coals pretty far out on the edges of the bowl. It's good though because they last a while...QUOTE (Scoop @ Jul 18 2007, 09:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>...fold the top mix down on itself just to create a flat surface.I'm a little unclear on this -- I've never heard of this technique before. I was actually going to do this with the super chief when I get it......seeing as how there is no shisha on the middle part, three Jap easy lites sitting right next to each other in the center woudn't be too hot for the shisha below it. A slightly underpacked bowl will form thick smoke, but have a wampin' buzz and/or be slightly harsh. A slightly overpacked bowl will do the same thing. There's a lot of tolerance for a well packed bowl, you just have to hit it and then you will know how to duplicate it. Try different stuff. sznapsy
I have smoke coming out the top of my bowl but when i do that it seems the smoke is good, and not harsh, but maybe a flavor a little weak. I make the tobacco be full up to the rip...
