DizzyGuy
Just because it's not a MYA doesn't mean it's not washable... and even washable hoses might have to be "bought once in awhile". Some people on here don't have washable hoses and say they've had them for years. Even though I have washable hoses, I never actually use water... I just use a vaccum on them... MR Bubble
Now understand that MYA aren't the only washable hoses out there. I've had some for years that don't appear to be MYA (I got in 2004 for $5.00 each) and they wash along with the best of them. I don't know if what I'm going to tell you is the honest truth, but I have found the washable hoses to be your 100% air-tight ones. I mean: [b] air-tight. How do you tell if it is air-tight? Simple Plug one end with your finger, suck the other end with your mouth muscles (like smoking a cigarette). one you can't get any more sucking action out of it (watch your filthy, potty minds everyone) quickly plug your tongue over the hole and hold it like that for a few seconds. After a few seconds, it should still be hanging onto your tongue. pull your tongue off of it and you should hear a sucking "pop" sound. I'd say it's airtight. The non washable hoses are made from papers and other "stuff" that, by it's very nature doesn't hold a vacuum very well. While the air-tight ones will be made of something plastic on the inside. While plastic isn't a great oxygen barrier (I just had to cause I know some of you young chemical engineers will point that out to me ) it suffices for a good hose. Better safe than sorry, so if you want to try washing it, expose it to as little water as necessary and evacuate whatever water you use immediately. Here's a trick one of our members from days past taught. Thanks nerv, wherever you be. A. Hold your hose like a jump rope, with your hands gripping the handles. Stoop down some and gently swing it over your head (going in a forward direction) and gently smack it on the floor, like a jump rope. Just don't skip with it. Do that a couple times. B. Next use one of your grommets. Probably the bowl grommet. Stick it on one end of the hose, inverted. That is, with the narrow end of the grommet sliding onto the hose first. It should make somewhat of a good seal around the wood handle. C. Next, press it up to the faucet in the sink and give it a good blast of water. NOTE: Ensure the other end of the hose is in the sink. Bubble hose the kitchen floor once. MRS Bubble was not impressed. Watch the crud fly out of the hose into the sink. Imagine all that kind of crap adhering to the inside of your lungs. Tasty treats. D. Repeat process another time or two to get more garbage out of the hose. E. Now we see if you have a strong hose. You need to evacuate the water out in case you have metal coils inside. Go outside in the middle of the yard. Don't get too close to the car or it could get messy. While holding one end of the hose, swing your arm over-head, round and round. Your hose should now be swinging around in a circle, horizontally from centrifugal force. The faster, the better, because any residual water is now leaving your hose, going all over the neighbor's car and house and cat and whatever. You get the flick. After you do this for a while, and if your hose didn't fly apart, I'll say your in business. And if it does fly apart? Well, just pretend there's a legal disclaimer at the bottom to read  Hell no, I won't go! MR Bubble
ASUSEAN1
Thanks for the advice mr. bubble. I just ran water through my hose and it looked perfectly clean. Little did I know tthere was still a bunch of crap in it. I took the hose and did the whole jump rope thing and hit it against the ground and when i ran more water through it, the water was dark brown
Lakemonster
QUOTE Ok so its not washable, if i buy a washable one will it last forever or will i have to keep buying a new one after a while?? If you take care of the hose, it should last a long time. I rarely have hoses break or wear out, unless it develops rust on the inner coil. At that time, it becomes retired. I have yet to hear of a MYA rusting..... I havent disected one yet, but my understanding is that the inner coil on the MYA are plastic, eliminating the rust problem. MYA hoses are also well made.... lifespan, while not eternal, should be a few years if taken care of... maybe more. My oldest MYA is 8 months old. None of the other production hoses like the Egyptians have lasted better than 3 months or so before they rusted.

Scarecrow
I used to wash mine every use or so. Now I think the best idea is to wash them when either crap starts flying in your mouth or your having problems getting the right taste from your shisha. kram
both my mya hoses have rusted, the coils inside are metal and there is no protective covering over them as implied in previous post. i use a QT and it so happens tht some water does get into the hose while smoking the QT, my water level is the same as scalli's if u watch the vid, just a tiny amount gets in and it ruins the hose, mya washable or not. if mya made the coils steel there wld not have this prob

Even a plastic center wire would be alright. Unfortunetly though Mya is still the best damn hose out there, and I have tried egyptian, chinese mitsuba and persian. Sonthert
I have had some leather hoses for 5 years...I would say they smoke the best and are the most durable. True, Bubba, true there are a number of good hoses out there that are washable and not Myas. Group Elegance has a few good looking hoses bouncing around, although I don't know if they are washable, but I'm sure they would be over-priced...like 10% cheaper than a Mya.
