papaskot
Well, we've been playing around with different ideas for a screen. We have a small funnel bowl. Up first was a small aluminum vent, 3 inches in diameter. This item did not work well at all, and tasted like ass(like smoking pocket change!). Next time at the hardware store what do i see that looks like a possibility? ...A sink drain, yes a sink drain:This little sucker works like a charm, and looks good to boot. Nothing worse than covering your sweet bowl with alum foil. We took the middle drain plug part out, and just using the actual drain trap. Fun with pictures:Obelisk with sink drain mod(lols):Close-ups of drain screen:Our Shisha cabinent:Up next is RTV'ing the drain, so it fits air-tight on the bowl. We have some red RTV, so that should look pretty sweet with the black/red bowl.Thoughts/commens/suggestions?EDIT: youtube action:Hookah Action youtube vid Edited September 19, 2007 by papaskot

This hookah (which i call the hook-a-nator) has so far been awesome to us. She hits like a champ, and the packaging is second to none. Nothing like bringing a hard case that looks like a nuke-launching briefcase to a party, and whipping out this four-hosed badboy.Edit:It resizes these for me, if it doesn't for you and the pics are way xbox huge than i'll change them, just lmk. papaskot
fuck that, what's a couple of $ among hookah enthusiasts? Anyone who knows WTF is up can buy their own sink drain, haha. anyone who buys this type of shit from a distributor deserves to get owned. Also in america it doesn't matter who patents it first, if i can prove that i thought of the idea first, then it's my fuggin pattent. So...FU hookah distributors!!! The proof is right here, in this forum!!
Johnny_D
DAMN that is a great idea! Can you tell us if you got much ash on the tobacco?JD
CLASH
x3 on the ash. a sink drain has pretty big holes in it. it seems a ton of ash would end up in the tobacco

HookahCulture
HAHA I've used a sink drain before too!!
Calcartman
Looks interesting, though i would second the notion the holes might be too big, but i know eric uses a pretty big fork to poke his holes.I would want a solid mesh though, i dont think i like the idea of that bar in the middle that pokes up and down. CLASH
I would cut that metal thing that goes down off. and to keep the ash out use a metal screen on top of the drain...idk just thinking
KingMidas
I would suggest going to lowes, or any home repair store, and finding a screen door repair kit. It will come with 6-7 small pieces of mesh that you could put on the drain, under the coals, so that the ash doesnt fall through. Just a thought. HookahCulture
I've used the drain screen on a regular bowl out of necessity.....
