  1. Sorry to hear you're having that reaction brother. Glad there's something for you still. Hope you are doing well -Pat
  2. I got Tangiers Orange Soda in my mya econo gelato (not using my Km OG trimetal oxidized because it's tough getting in and out of my tent with) and thought it's time to check in on my favorite old stomping grounds. I was reading some posts and it's a walk down memory lane. My memory isn't the best for old friends, due to past traumas, meds, and being a burnout. But remembering so many and wishing this community was still active. I have a handful of you on Facebook and wouldn't mind having more on my list...but be warned, my posts are mostly left wing politics(I went from Libertarian with the Ron Paul Revolution, to Democratic Socialist with good ol' Bernie Sanders) and we'll say the green things in life that make you giggle(was in an accident in 2012 that left me with dehabilitating pain and unable to work for 8 years or so. Green got my pain under control that I could work again and later allowed me to stop taking benzodiazepines for generalized anxiety disorder and panic attack disorder after 16 years or so of relying on them)(give me a temp ban if you want for breaking anti-green rule, but my family here should know what I've been through and how my life changed). I still smoke hookah daily. At home I either use my km og trimetal oxidized or my mya econo gelato. At the cabin on the weekends I use my km king tut(of 3ft one that is practically a km exotica with king tut stuffed in there)(I'd love to sell this hookah, comes with a Syrian trumpet bell vase, I want a tiny km to replace it). During the winter I have an ice fishing tent that can sit two(but a pinch cramped that way, but my gf and I make it work) that I smoke hookah in because I can't smoke hookah in the house. It's cozy, I have space heaters and keep it between 50°f-70°f depending on how cold it is outside...the other night it was 12°f and I was struggling to keep the tent 50°f. I still pretty much only smoke Tangiers. Damn, I'm in shock, I just found out in the last year that Eric owner/founder of Tangiers, and beloved friend to many of us here and former mod, has passed away. It really saddens me. We talked a lot over the years, he even helped me thru a nasty mental breakdown. I wanted to reach out to him after a bad series of mental breakdowns in 2020 over COVID + being addicted to Clash of Kings(when I stopped playing, I was in third place in the entire game for amount of hours spent online playing out of millions and millions of accounts, it was like how people get with WoW)). When I learned of his death. I still have moments he gave me over the years. Anyone remember when he made the custom wood mouth tipsand hose port pieces to hoses? He put them out in vacuum sealed bags with a card certifying authenticity and what number set it was out of the total collection. All had a number. Mine has no number! I don't know if I'll ever open it but I really wanna use it. Ya, so I've had a tough decade, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. Finally properly diagnosed (Bipolar 1, G.A.D., Panic Attack Disorder, OCD, and hypertension) and doing great. Honestly best I've been mentally since before my first psych episode in 2006. I'm no longer living manic and impulsively, so less shenanigans from me like the trouble I was always in when we were thriving here. It's nice not living in constant ups and downs and having poor impulse control. I don't go on bipolar shopping sprees anymore, last time I did that I dropped over a grand on Clash of Kings in 3 months. I'm no longer having 5+ panic attacks a day, instead I'm getting a few a year, thanks to getting away from being prescribed Xanax/klonopin and getting prescribed mmj. I work about 35 hours a week as my 92-year-old invalid(I hate the term but it's what she told me she is considered medically) grandmother's caregiver. I wouldn't trade my job for the world, but I wish I didn't have to rely on welfare with making $8 an hour(dammit I have a college degree and was a contractor 12years and I'm making 8/hr 😟). She helped me thru my last breakdown just by me being there taking care of her everyday and talking. It probably would have taken me an extra 6mo-1yr in my recovery if it wasn't for her helping pull me back to reality. Let's see, what else...I "built" a cabin, that is my mancave, starting around early 2012. It was a dilapidated cabin that hadn't been used in 40 years or so. The roof had caved in at least 20 years ago and the inside was in deplorable condition as well as the outside. We (my family and I) gutted it and hired a contractor to do the exterior. We got it insulated and new siding on, new windows, new roof, and a door, and one of the windows is a 9-ft x 6 ft picture window overlooking the bend in the correct behind my cabin. Me and my uncle did all the electrical for the cabin, my mom and I built the walls on the inside making bedrooms and a kitchen and a biiiiiig living room. I sealed the outer walls with roofing caulk anywhere there was a crack before putting in insulation and particle board and sealing the particle board. Then I put naughty pine up throughout the entire cabin with sanded blonde quarter inch plywood for ceilings with furring strips over the seams. I love this place and I brag about it all the time, I put a lot of blood and sweat into it and my life savings as I became disabled. I probably spend around 16 to 20,000 total on it, but with labor and everything else, if my place were to burn down tomorrow and insurance paid to build a replica of it it would probably cost 60 to 80k to do, with hiring others to do all the labor. I host all the family cookouts now, but I sit back and smoke hookah while they cook lol. But ya, this is my safe space, if I'm in a bad headspace I go there. I had more I typed and I forget what I said, my phone messed up and deleted it while I was proofreading the post for typos. But yeah I really miss this place. I'd love to see it active again here and if something came up that we can get all the old regulars active in here and running again, I be willing to volunteer to help run the place again. I'd be less fun because I'm properly medicated LOL, but I think it would be awesome. I'm going to try to check in every so often to see if anyone comments on this. I'm hoping to see some of my old friends on here. If any of you old friends /family want to be Facebook friends just reach out. -Much Love, Pat / Rivethead
  3. I learned something this past weekend regarding patents. I was at a vape shop that also blows glass. I inquired about possibly getting scali mods made, but was worried about copyright. The artist said that in most creations like the scali mod or phunnel bowl, it in reality is an art and practically unenforceable patentent. He explained, with scali mod as example, that just adding a swirl, or a dab of color, makes it a completely different product from patent product because of artist rights. I think this is what you are seeing with all these various phunnels on the market. The artists know the looseness of the law and shape it to their favor. (off topic for those that see: sorry I disappeared guys. Life is chaos. I'm usually on Clash Of Kings day and night now as a leader of a group, helps keep me sane. I'm single now, disabled, fighting for SSI, and living with my parents at 31)
  4. Coal heater as in hot plate? If so, yes. You're gonna need it to light coconara coals. If you already have an electric stove/hot plate, a windcover is nice for if it is windy where you are smoking, or to amplify heat when the coals are almost gone.
  5. I don't think they've really had any updates for that model. However, I remember that when QTs were popular, different crafting hobby shops (like Michael's) had a similar vase that fit and worked nice as a replacement
  6. Thank you very much. It's awesome after all these years to see someone from KM on the forum. I smoked from many of your pipes and KM are my favorite. I always wanted that limited edition one you had out about 5 years ago for about $500 usd. I ended up disabled and that out of budget. My limited run KM original trimetal oxidized is my go to daily pipe, but I also frequently use my KM king Tut(I had a pro artist repaint it) that is exotica height. When at my friend's I get to use his exotica.
  7. Sounds like you had one hell of a night out . As for the water running out, the vase water should ALWAYS remain the same level. Wonder if it was a leaky vase/base. If it was a regular type bowl (mya, egyptian, mod, etc), an average session is 90 to 120 mins where the tobacco is good to the end (cooked biscuit of dry tobacco is best description of end result). If it was a variation of a phunnel bowl, bowl could go a lot longer. Really happy to hear you enjoyed it. Sounds like you had a good staff member setting up your pipe...every session (when done right) with tobacco should be like that.
  8. All depends on the hookah bar. MAKE SURE YOU STAY HYDRATED. People new to hookah aren't used to the co2 levels from the charcoal. This can lead to a bad buzz and feeling sick. Adiquite hydration will settle this for you. There are flavors. There are non-tobacco hookah stuffs. It's general concensus that non-tobacco hookahs suck. The only one that I thought was ok was the shiazo steam stones. I highly recommend just finding a good flavored tobacco. And ya, there's nicotine, but I've never meant someone literally addicted to hookah with the nicotine. The addictive part, if at all (like no nicotine vape) is the enjoyable experience. I smoked cigarettes 12 years, 3 packs a day towards the end. Hookah never was a craving, even now as three years cigarette free. Some times a smoke daily (college, when I had money), sometimes it's weekends only. Sometimes I go a month or two until my next hookah session. The nicotine really just provides an element to the session. It can be something to the complexity of the flavor/tobacco (read up on different product lines of tangiers to further understand), or just catching a buzz. But it should not create an addiction. There is a chance of heaviness in the chest the next day, it fades fast and is nothing like smoking cigarettes or cigars, which are more long term. If lounge screws up packing the bowl and/or managing the heat (only should happen if it's someone inexperienced), it could burn the tobacco and be a negative experience. Maybe tell your waiter it's your first time and ask if they could handle the coal shift for you (they commonly leave you tongs to occasionally flip and shift the coals). Maybe look over the menu and find some flavors that sound good to you and ask for their recommendation. As for prices, each lounge has different charging systems. Might be $10 per hookah. Chances are they are using a regular bowl and you'll get 90 mins per hookah bowl session. Again, I'm a fellow vaper. I used to heavily smoke cigs whilst also being a hookah smoker. The only negative effect I get now, after 3 years cig free, is I tend to get real tired and/or weak after a long hookah session. I go back and forth between 0,3,and 6 nicotine on my dripper box mod, all depends on my stress. I just had two weeks nicotine free recently, but now am at 3 (I doubled a 6 juice with pure vg, I'm poor lol)...they actually do make vape heads for hookahs, if that interests you. Most of them are not diy, you have to buy their replacement cartridges. I did see one at a local lounge that runs on an 18650, build your own coils, and refill with your own juice. Expensive, sounds neat, but seems impractical when I could just have a regular hookah lol. Hope this helps. Good luck. Please let us know how it goes, even if you think you'll never touch it again. Would love to hear your experience.
  9. If you can give an idea of your preferenceswith aesthetics, what type of tobaccos you like, etc... Many (including me) will recommend an Egyptian hookah. Best brand imho is Khalil Mamoon, KM for shorthand. If you want a multi hose pipe, Mya saray is the way to go. It's the ONLY Chinese manufactured quality hookah, just avoid the econo models. If you are looking at smoking more moist tobaccos, like fantasia, al fakher, and tangiers, you'll want to invest in a phunnel bowl. They increase the longetivity of your bowl, and also keep hookah cleaning easier since you don't get hardly any juices dripping down the stem. Also, you'll want to invest in a washable hose. You can invest in a pricier, designer one like a nammor, but nuhoses are perfectly fine and about $5 each. Do yourself a favor, stay away from quicklight coals if you can. Get a hot plate (portable single coil stove), they are around $15 at Walgreens and Dollar General. Get coconut coals (preferred by most because cost effecient and longetivity ) or japs like canary coals. You won't have nasty coal taste during your session. . As for where to shop, I have a few places off the top of my head. You can't go wrong with texashookah.Com ...also, 5starhookah.Com and hookah-shisha.Com have quality selection. If you search around the forum, you can find discount codes for some vendors. It doesn't hurt to take a look at the vendors area of the forum too. They randomly will post sales . Lastly, do yourself a favor and check the reviews section of the forum. This will really help you in the shopping process. One of our beloved members, Stuie, has reviewed just about every hookah product out there. There are also many how-to topics to help you along. I started here around early 2008, and loved hookah ever since. Each thread I read improved my experience more and more, giving me the perfect session every session. Welcome aboard.
  10. Heat management as stated above could be a big problem. Also, could be a tobacco that is too dry possibly. You don't need three layers of foil. One layer heavy duty is great, you can do two layers of regular foil but it isn't necessary. I often have tobacco touching foil with no woes. It's probably too much heat. Also, again, could be the tobacco if it's rather dry. If so, you can add vegetable glycerin to the tobacco to properly remoisen it to an acceptable consistency
  11. I used to smoke all day in college when I wasn't in class or sleeping. Part of it could have been with improper packing and heat management. In other words, could have actually burned the shisha, whereas proper method bakes it so it's more a vapor than straight smoke. Another thing could be your body's reaction with co2 from charcoal. Need to stay well hydrated, but also its good to be in a well ventilated area. If charcoal wasn't properly lit or wrong charcoal, that would be a major factor. In example, food grilling charcoal can kill you. Hope this helps, and that your next hookah experience is better
  12. Warning, not for the faint of heart hookah lovers. Graphic photo enclosed As many know, suffer pain in my hip and back (damaged s.i.joints, had a Rhizotomy this year)...I just went mother's day shopping and was in pain after the drive, walking, etc. Got hookah stuff out of my car. Dropped my bag of tobaccos and bowls in pain. R.I.P. 2008 black medium phunnel, 2009/2010 black and blue (dual colored) small phunnel (about same size as medium), and first run 7ico Pico phunnel in blue. There will be an appropriate memorial ceremony 4th of July during my annual cookout extravaganza at my cabin with my hookah and board games friends.
  13. I remember you <3 Glad life is treating you well
  14. http://m.wtae.com/health/fda-to-extend-tobacco-regulations-to-ecigarettes/39393884 I was reading local news, being I don't have facebook at the time to keep up on world events (suing people from car accident that ruined my life and advised to take down facebook until case settled). Caught my eye because was titled towards FDA regulating e-cigs, but it's a sweep of all tobacco related products. ... So, what does this mean for us hookah enthusiasts? Thoughts?
