  1. I'm growing tired of the traditional fruit-based flavors, and I'm looking for some unique shishas. Rose seems interesting, does anyone have any suggestions for some outlandish flavors?
  2. While smoking: I have a "Shisha" mix consisting of Modest Mouse, Chet Baker, Elliott Smith, Beirut, Isis, and The Doors. Not smoking: Modest Mouse, Bob Dylan, Wu Tang Clan, Baroness, Immortal Technique, Beirut, The Rolling Stones
  3. QUOTE (ColibriDon @ Dec 15 2008, 10:31 PM) Not a bad method if you don't have a heat source. It's the best use of 3k coals I've seen. Also, why do those coals look purple? Is it just the camera or is there some coal wizardry going on there? Is anyone else of the opinion that coals that burned purple would be incredibly awesome?
  4. QUOTE (roux58 @ Dec 8 2008, 11:18 PM) Could be I guess. Was the foil tight and dipped before you removed it? Yeah it was. And for the friends effing with me theory, the people I was smoking with do not know enough about the mechanics of a hookah to set up a joke as elaborate as this one. Also, this was a single hose and it was on the ground when this happened.
  5. QUOTE (roux58 @ Dec 8 2008, 11:07 PM) Well if the shisha was burning it could have stuck to the foil and blocked the holes.. I'm pretty surethe shisha was burning; smoke rose from the bowl even when I took the coal off, and it tasted bad. BUT it wasn't stuck to the foil. Could this be because the force of the pressure being released pushed the foil off the shisha?
  6. QUOTE (modisess @ Dec 8 2008, 11:02 PM) ermmmmmmmm, ummmmmmm, uhhhhhhhhh... what kind of hookah are you using? maybe the holes you poked on the foil were just TOO small? maybe you used too much coals? or maybe it was just one of your friends doing a practical joke on you? it sounds kinda impossible unless you have boiling water in your base. It's a brass Lebanese hookah I bought in Byblos. I used a thumb tack to poke the holes, which I've done many times before. I was using 2 40mm QLs, which I've also done before with this set up. And it definitely was not a practical joke as it was only the second time my friends had smoked hookah. Also, not boiling water in the base but iced milk. I'm not making this up.
  7. Just finished a session of bizarre mishaps (including burnt shisha, a flaming vacuum, and a broken soup bowl), and I have a question about a particular event. After packing our second bowl, we noticed that the shisha was tasting unusual. We were using a double foil layer with very small holes, and when I went to remove the foil and examine the bowl, the sound of a pressure valve went off and blew smoke and hot air everywhere. Can anyone explain what caused this? I'd like to avoid it in the future as it freaked everyone out and was a pretty big buzz kill.
  8. I'm not sure about these hookahs in particular but I would suggest looking around to see if they sell these same hookahs on different sites. I know many sites give away free tobacco, coals, even hookah accessories like wind covers when you order a pipe.
  9. Hmm you might be able to wrap another, thinner grommet under your current one to thicken up the stem. If you or your friends have any extra grommets lying around, that's my suggestion. Otherwise just send it back.
  10. So over the weekend I decided to try to smoke my hookah and Al Fakher mango tobacco (which is quite nice), however I had one small problem: no coals. I did a little research and found out the best alternative was to use natural hardwood charcoals. This made sense; they always used legitimate wood coals when I was in the Middle East. I went to the grocery store and all I could find was organic, mesquite-flavored hardwood charcoal. It was $1.99 so I figured what the hell and bought them. Later on I saw a head shop and went in, but all they had were some incredibly bad non-quicklite hookah coals, but I got them just to be safe. I started with the real hookah coals, lighting them over my stove, then added on the mesquite charcoals, letting the non-QLs do the work of lighting them. To say that the mesquite gave some extra flavor is an understatement. It was BBQ central. In addition, I used cola instead of water (in retrospect, a bad idea) and the results were smokey, cokey hits. So my questions are the following: 1) If you're out of coals, is there a solution other than ordering/buying more hookah-specific coals? Or can you go to grocery store and buy a brand of natural, hardwood lump charcoal that actually works. In addition, what is the best way to light them (I have an electric stove). 2) Should I just stick with water, or do alternative liquids work? Thanks.

  12. QUOTE (dead_lemons @ Nov 29 2008, 03:54 AM) QUOTE (speed.trials @ Nov 29 2008, 12:47 AM) In your experience, what company makes the best Arabic Coffee shisha? I recently ordered some from Romman and will make sure to review it in this thread. all the reviews can go in the review section under the appropriate brand, there is one for every brand of shisha. BTW welcome to the forum!! I will make sure to review the Romman once I get it in the mail, and thanks for the welcome guys.
  13. In your experience, what company makes the best Arabic Coffee shisha? I recently ordered some from Romman and will make sure to review it in this thread. The only other company I know of that makes this flavor is النخلة (al nakhla), and I was reluctant to buy from them because I thought their double apple was terrible. Are they bad or did I just get a bad box/flavor?
