Do We Appreciate The World Around Us Any More?
anoddmind replied to SilentBob's topic in Serious Discussion Forum
People hear what they see. Take Hank Williams the III for example: a (predominantly) country band who's members look more punkrock/metalhead in comparison to your typical country act. and a live show often feels more like a rock concert because of this (this might be a bad example, but it's the best I've got.) So even though you might hear "violin prodigy extraordinaire", you see a beggar. I would think that a certain level of avoidance also comes into play here. Where I am from, mass transit locations tend to be somewhat of a safe haven for beggars. you can't walk by transit center in downtown Tampa without a crackhead or bum panhandling you for a dollar or a cigarette . So people often walk buy keeping their eyes to themselves and acting like they are in a big hurry just to avoid shelling out a buck to someone. when you preform a study of this type, in a location of this nature, people are more likely to hold L and R to anything that would make them stop. I would like to see the same study done outside of a busy take out diner around lunch time, where people are still in a hurry, but would also be less inhibited by the "just another person who want's my dol -

I'm learning all about the hookah, and much faster than I had anticipated thanks to this site and it's members. I'm living in Florida and work full time, and goof of as a musician part time (I'm not that great, warming back up after a 7 month hiatus). Thanks to everyone that has contributed to the knowledge I have received from this site.

Ever tried a Luther Burger? A pound of ground beef, sharp cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and 5 strips of bacon. All in between 2 krispy Kreme doughnuts. sounds disgusting, right? actually pretty good, best damn sleeping pill I ever took too. So what are your favorite foods that have a high potential of killing you? bacon roll? Fried Twinky? just curious.

I fail to see the spiritual implications of preventing Boltzmann Brains from coming to exist, besides if no one ever criticizes our researchers/scientists/philosophers, then many people would just believe in anything that they say. hmm, okay maybe I see the spiritual implications now.

are glass jars okay?

Recently, I was reminded of an article I read in a science magazine almost a year ago. It was an article on a mathematical/physics theory that had a bit of philosophy tied into it, "Boltzmann Brains." It is not at all impossible for an item (for popularity's sake, let's say a hookah) to appear and dissapear in the middle of empty space. The exact same device that you are smoking from right now...*poof* an exact duplicate of it, than in a matter of a few seconds... It's gone. now with this knowledge acquired by some science egghead that lived over 100 years ago came the birth of an idea now called a Boltzmann Brain. A Self aware thing that, potentially could learn and know more in one of it's short lived existences than we could hope to learn in over thousands of years. This brain could be anything from, just a brain, a silicon based super computer, or even a humanoid life form complete with space suite and oxygen tank. (no kidding, the article said this) Now, it seems to me that this on it's own, even if published as a piece of fiction, would have been laughed at. Hold on, it gets better. So, recently another group of our best thinkers got a hold of Boltzmann's works and added a little philosophy to it. "Assumption is crucial in everything that we do, if we cannot assume that our observations are that of the common observer, than we could never conclude anything." So... as space expands, and the potential of a Boltzmann Brain appearing becomes greater (the likely hood of one having appeared in man's existence this far is next to none,) the greater the chances of them outnumbering us are, and the more likely it is that our observations are no longer the common observation. Now we have a handful of the smartest people on the planet all worked up over this, and trying to figure out how to ever prevent a Boltzmann brain from ever appearing. is it just me, or are some of our smartest scientist coming across as being a little dumb?

Any Ideas For Coal Substitutes
anoddmind replied to Boricua's topic in Discussion Group for all Hookah Lovers
http://www.instructables.com/id/Emergency-...ah-Coal-Making/ sorry I'm late on the reply, but I hope it will help someone. I have not tried this, seems like it would work with the right type of wood. -
I currently only have one piercing out of ten left, a 10 gauge septum, I still want to take it up to a 4, but it will take a long time as I don't want to snap the cartilage in my nose (a 4 is what the use to pierce a bull's nose). Other piercings that I have had were :right eyebrow: 2 one horizontal, one vertical, so that 3 beads lined up over my eyebrow and one just above and to the side of where my eyelids met. nostrils: took a few attempts for my artist to get this one right(my nose is a little asymmetrical,) done with a 14 gauge, I would place labret studs upside down in both holes or on occasion use small spikes, looked sick with the septum. right ear: 5 holes starting at the top and all pretty close to each other. the pattern of them was a spiked horseshoe with a spiked labret in the middle, then another horseshoe. on the day before my band goes to play it's first gig (were back together again minus one member) I will get my nostrils and eyebrow done once more. I don't have a tattoo yet, but am working on getting one soon, bass strings running up the side of my leg to my knee, with frets that would look as if they were stapled into place. (I am looking for an artist that also plays, so that it would look more to scale)

every major city has a "world known" 5 star restaurant, but what about the mom&pop operations that have great meals at a good price and you always leave full? where do the natives eat at in your area? Tampa: 1. Hugo's - little Spanish/Cuban restaurant on S.Howard, $5 bay side burger is great, or for a fast lunch try the ropa vieja sandwich (eat it immediately, it's not at tasty when the Cuban bread gets soggy. 2. Cafe Hey - just north of downtown, it's a little sandwich shop with some great coffee. the ambiance that this place creates is kind of a younger artistic approach with art for sale on the wall. I have never been let down by the soup of the day and the menu is always refreshing 3. Bamboozle - Vietnamese restaurant in down town. They remembered my roommates name after one visit! each meal you order is custom made and great, a good place to try pho if you have never had it.

Which Bowls To Buy, And What Not To
anoddmind replied to anoddmind's topic in Discussion Group for all Hookah Lovers
how would an unglazed mod bowl compare to the mya ceramic? I clean the bowl I have now on the regular, with hot water and a little dish soap, would I have to treat either of these bowls differently, and would the unglazed mod start to look dirty with a little time, seems like the whole thing would be very porous? thanks again for all the advice and direction you all have given me so far, very helpful! -
I would like to have a small collection of bowls to show off for when company comes over, and I would also like to buy most, if not all of them in one shot. I would like to buy them all at once so I can construct a case to protect, display and transport them, as soon as possible. I'm thinking of making my purchase via H-S, mostly because I have done most of my business with them in the past, and I have a decent idea on what to expect from them. I am budgeting myself at $45 and this is what I plan to buy. Please let me know your opinions on this purchase and any advice you have to offer. 1. Phunnel Hookah Bowl - seems to be the necessity, the creme de la creme of bowls as far as I understand it. and I understand also, that this is recommended fo "juicier shishas"? (romman? I still have a limited knowledge of shisha varieties, this has been the wettest I have gotten so far) 2. Mya Ceramic Bowl - most of the friends that I have that come over and smoke request a variety of apple (double apple, apple and honey mix...apple) I was thinking that having a bowl that is unglazed would be good for this, after I read that unglazed bowls tend to retain some amount of the flavor of what you smoke out of it. 3. Double Head Bowl - shits and giggles really, I don't think I would use it much, but it would look kind of cool as a party bowl. 4. Conservation Bowl - I think that as a novice, it would be wise to have a small bowl like this to help sample new shishas I order as they come in (I'm still ordering small boxes of about 50gms, other than cases where only larger sizes are available.) also I find myself at a coffee shop on some weekends, and this bowl would be perfect for those small sessions. 5. Mod Bowl - I already own this, it came with my hookah. thanks for any input that you have on this topic.

in my experience with cat's, they respond best to names that have an ie/y ending. but it sounds more like this cat chose you, you shouldn't give it a name at all, beyond a reference to when it shows up on your porch, or some inclination that this cat has excepted you to take responsibility for it. I would suggest something along the lines of: Moi ("muwah" french for "it's me") , bro, gramps (mostly as a reference to it's color), unauthorized-tax-writeoff-dependent-code named "john" (only works if you wink while saying it)

this is my favorite subject, I'm a musician (as a hobby, I'm not all that commited anymore, but still have fun jamming), but being that the person who originally posted this subject seemed to be interested in finding new music to listen too, I'm going to stick with the things that you might not have heard of. metal: Acid Bath-circa 1995 New Orleans, a band that comes a crossed as having mixed intentions of music, the first part is good metal, if I had to make a breed comparison, I would say Alice In Chains meets Pantera, check out songs like "Finger Painting of the Insane", and "Dr. Suess is Dead". another side of the band is more like accoustic doom metal, more of a low feel, check out the song "Dead Girl". the other part bring the afore mentioned sides together, the song "Scream of the Butterfly" is what hooked me on this band. 40 Below Summer-Nu Metal from around 2001 to 2007, they had an exceptional tallent at midsong breaks, and building the song back up after them, Nothing to above average about them, but good solid Nu Metal. Check out songs like :"drown", "suck it Up", and "I'm Still Bleeding" Mushroomhead-I love this band, they claim that Slipknot stole their sound, which could be an accurate accusation. Mushroomhead has done a very good job at writing lyrics, often talking directly to God or Humanity, but it's not in the form of anger, so much as it comes out as just frustration of the state of the world (just my interpretation). check out songs lie "Bwomp", "Before I die", and "just pretending" Rap and Hip-hop: Sage Francis- Very talented, part of Anticon, and I have fully enjoyed every album I have got from Him, I did not like hip-hop untill I listened to him, he will make you feel something, as he talks about issues such as his ex, death of his father, God, and Death. check out songs like "Civil Disobediance", "The Buzz Kill" and "Agony In Her Body" Aesop Rock-if you don't like your job, listen to "9-5er's Anthem", the way he words things will keep you listening Themselves- Dose One and Jel, very abstract hiphop, if nothing else, worth hearing once, Dose has the most unique voice in music that I have heard yet. check out my own project while your at it, leave some feedback if you like http://www.myspace.com/hurtingyourbabies
