1. Met in high school, have been dating for about 10 years. I finally popped the question in May and we are getting married in August. My advice (not that anyone asked for it) is to really get to know someone, be friends for a while, before getting seriously involved. Unless your religious customs mandate it, don't get married before you have lived together for at least a couple of years. I think the divorce rate would be a lot lower if people actually got to know their SO before getting married.
2. If I'm at home, there is usually a bowl packed. I found a Moroccan guy down the street that sells all sorts of stuff including hookah supplies; my fiance and I have been in there buying tobacco and coals about 5 times in the past 3 weeks--I think about 6 boxes of tobacco and about 12-14 rolls of 3 Kings have been purchased recently. I don't feel like a total sloth though because I end up walking about 2-3 miles a day during the week and hike about 5-10 miles on the weekend. When it warms up here next year, I'm going to have to get myself a portable hookah setup so the smoking can come outdoors. Chilling in Rock Creek National Park with a hookah would be fun--as long as the NPS staff don't care... Matt
3. Glass screen for large funnel bowl: also very cool.
4. QUOTE (imonlyapuppet)It is a very tasty flavor, however I and several others feel that after about 30-45 mins of smoking, the flavor either runs out, or begins to taste kind of gross. Seconded. I've recently developed a liking for Nakhla--have to try their Chocomint to see if that is more appealing.
5. I haven't been on the forum in a while and this was the first thread I looked at after signing in--definitely has me smiling. My fiance and I smoke hookah a lot; she often forgets to cover the hole on her hose and i have to tell her to "Cover your hole woman!"; always gets a chuckle out of her.
6.
I've heard a good number of people getting a buzz of washed shisha, is that just because they arn't use to it? I always found that weird.
That's called oxygen deprivation.
7. Sucks that it only lasted 30 minutes; even before I started using the mando Tangiers bowls, I could get at least an hour out of a bowl of Al Waha. Especially if the stuff is expensive, I would hate to only get 30 minutes out of a bowl.
8. Enough already; Skimo is definitely on the mark saying that this is an internet forum so no one needs to communicate perfectly. That said, making an effort to communicate in a clear and effective manner makes you look like you give a shit about what you are trying to say. Don't be surprised if people don't take you seriously when they read half-garbled posts full of spelling mistakes but by the same token, don't criticize someone for their posting habits because no one cares. If you can't stand reading poorly formed posts, ignore them.
9. Sounds great! I'm working on a bowl of Kashmir Peach in the new funnel bowl at the moment; My 3rd session (today) with the new funnel and loving it. I also picked up some Pineapple this time around from Hookah Company and found that to be very enjoyable--nice pineapple flavor but no candy like overpowering sweetness. I'll write up a proper review tomorrow.
10. I have 3 words--Instant Run-off Voting (IRV). This would give 3rd-party candidates a much better chance of making it in a primary. Also, the current electoral system (with 1 or 2 exceptions) forces states to go to one party or another without proportionally allocating the votes artifically enforces the 2 party system.
11. I tried Nakhla Coconut at an Indian place that has hookahs the other night; It smelled really good but neither my fiance or I could really taste (especially at first) because the annice flavor was so strong in the hose. We definitely won't be going back to that place again; the waitress came right out and told us that they don't like using mint in their shishas because they don't get to clean them too often when the get busy. We were the only people in the place and the hookah was still nasty. I'm definitely interested in trying Coconut again though--maybe out of my own pipe so I know its actually clean.
12. I usually use a regular Bick lighter but occasionally use the flame from a gas stove. Once they light up, they make a nice cracking/sizzling noise; once that dies down, they are usually ready to go.
13. Used to use a screen when I first got my current hookah. I eventually broke the bowl though and replaced it with one of the original large Tangiers bowls; my screen didn't fit so I switched to foil. I would now say that I prefer foil because it is a lot easier to clean up but I would definitely be willing to try out a decent quality screen if someone made one.
14. I'm using Firefox (Windows though) and having no issues.
15. AZCoyote did report on that; I remember that it smoked for around an hour.
16. When you are checking out after adding the items to your cart, there is a field for coupon code; put hookahforum in there and you will get a 15% discount on the Tangiers.
17. I started off using a screen (because it came with the hookah); after I started cruising this forum though, I started experimenting with foil. I quickly decided that foil worked better for me. The "it takes too much time to prepare foil" line is utter bullshit; I wrap the bowl and punch the holes (at least 25 in most cases) in < 2 minutes. I have had fewer issues with harsh smoke now and like someone else said, much easier to clean up. My original screen got pretty grungy after a couple of months and was nearly impossible to clean properly.I ended up breaking my original Egyptian bowl and replaced with one of the original large Tangiers heads; the screen didn't fit so I was forced to go 100% foil. I certainly don't regeret it.As far as coals go, the 3 Kings (I've used both 33mm and 40mm) are extremely to use and don't impart a flavor to the tobacco as long as you let the coating burn off before placing on top of the bowl. They burn pretty hot though so don't always work that well with sensitive tobacco like Tangiers. I tried using Japanese Goldens and found that they worked better with Tangiers. I wasn't really super happy with the Goldens though--they seem to add an odd flavor I don't like so when I placed an order with Hookah Company today, I picked up a bag of Nour natural coals. These should definitely be interesting to experiment with. I really like the lack of any added coating or accelerant.Anyway, enough ramblings and good luck.
18. Hmm, I probably should have bought more than 1 bag of Nour coals; those come in 2.2 pound (1 kilo) bags from Hookah Company.
19. Give us a run-down of what you are doing--kind of shisha, coals, number of coals, foil or screen, type of bowl, etc. Also, how much water is in the base?
20. hookahcompany.com sells 250g quantities for $10.95 (15% discount when using coupon code hookahforum); hookakings.com sells 100g quantities for $6 or $7--not sure bout discount.
21. I have a gas stove so that's the route I will be going. Maybe I can rig up something to hold the coals above the burner--get some sort of heavy duty screening and attach it to a frame of some sort...
22. Sure will; I like pineapple quite a bit and I also hadn't seen any reviews so far.
23. You may have a point there; I suppose it would depend on the humidity content in the air. I try to keep my place pretty dry so maybe that won't be an issue? Any knowledgeable individuals have an answer?
24. Sounds good; can't wait. My only issue is that I'm going to be out-of-town for a few weeks starting this weekend; no guarantee that my shipment will show up before then. I briefly contemplated using 2-day shipping but the $30+ extra wasn't quite justifiable--oh well...
