i have a butane torch. i've tried lighting natural coals with it, but the coals stop glowing after a minute or so. how do i light natural coals?

Hi all, I just received my hookah from HookahCompany yesterday. I smoked two bowls using the included bowl, and a bowl through a funnel. I got the most ridiculous headache ever. Does anyone know what causes this? I've heard it could be CO poisoning, nicotine poisoning, or heavy metal poisoning. I seriously doubt it was nicotine related since I regularly smoke cigarettes. Mostly, I'm wondering if anyone knows if it could really be heavy metal poisoning from the foil? This is what Smiley claims in his glass screen ads. Anyone notice a decrease in headaches with glass screen as claimed? I'm not too concerned with CO poisoning, but heavy metals freak me out. Also, I got some natural coals and a ton of old 3 kings from a friend. I had trouble lighting both. Usually, 3 kings and other instant lights light quickly and sparks dance across the surface. But yesterday, the 3 kings wouldn't spark properly. Anyone have this experience with 3 kings? Old coals maybe? Does anyone know how long it takes to light natural coals? I have a blowtorch I tried using, but the coals kept going out or only staying lit in the corner, leading to bad heat.
