Having "Draw" Issues With My New Nammor Hookah
dizz replied to dizz's topic in Discussion Group for all Hookah Lovers
I bought that exact hookah to my sister, just a heads up, the pull is a little restricted. The downstem is wide enough to give you good airflow (at least it looks like it), but the opening of the hose port is very small (if you look inside, you will see there is only a tiny hole where air can go out)... you are probably not doing anything wrong.
This seems like the problem to me as well. The hose port is actually small, inside there is only a small hole for the air to come out from. I guess it just wasn't the best hookah to purchase. Or can I remove that little piece that's inside there? I will try and upload a picture soon. -
this has stumped everyone i guess... what tobacco are you using? maybe it possibly requires more heat to get going real well?
I generally use Nakhla tobacco, but I also use the Romman shisha I got with this hookah. I think alexander was right. Maybe it's just the design of the Nammor type hookahs. I get thick cloud smoke but I have to pull rather hard for it. I realize however, that when the charcoal (three kings) becomes smaller I crush it and spread it over the bowl and I get much better smoke from it. But why can't it do that when the coal is fresh? Why only when it nears its end? Either way, I guess I will just have to live with it. Either that or return it and get another. So, does anyone have any suggestions for a GOOD hookah with GOOD draws that's around $80? Thanks again for everyone's feedback, I really appreciate all of the help! -

By the way, the downstem is connected (and cannot be removed) to the entire hookah (shaft?).
Yeah, that's how it's supposed to be. I can't think of anything else man... How are you packing your bowls?
All the way to the tip of the rim but not too tight. I usually break it apart before I place it into the bowl and then just sprinkle it on. I use reynolds aluminum foil (1 square) and I poke medium size holes all around the top of the bowl with a toothpick. I just don't understand what is wrong. ;( -
Yeah, did you clean the stem really well before using? The Egyptian hookahs often have gunk built up in them when you get them...
No, I did not clean the stem. It looked pretty clean to me though. -
Ah! Interesting. Glad it's not the hose. I think maybe I didn't understand your original post well. I saw Nammor and assumed you meant a Nammor hose. But you said Nammor HOOKAH. Sorry. What's the diameter on the downstem like? A skinny downstem can pretty much render a hookah useless.
It's a Nammor hookah and a Nammor hose. I am not sure on the exact diameter, but it's not that skinny. It looks like any other downstem to me. -

What happens when you take the hose off the hookah and draw through it? Any problems?
Do you mean drawing from the hose after I've removed it? Or do you mean drawing from the connector piece with the hose removed? If you mean the latter, I've tried that and it's sort of the same.
I guess what I mean is if you just have the hose in your hand, attached to nothing, is the pull normal on it? I just wonder if there isn't a bit of plastic or glue or something clogging the hose. I you put a different hose on the hookah, does it act normally? A dent would only affect the draw if it's restricting air flow, so it would have to be one heck of a dent.
So then it's not a big enough dent, because it's not restricting air flow - I don't think. The hose is fine. I even tried another hose, and I'm having the same issue. -
Look around the hose port and purge, where the pieces are welded to the heart of the stem... are there any cracks or holes? I had a KM that had a small crack in the weld where the purge is connected to the heart. Had to take some JB Weld and fix it. After I did I got awesome smoke.
There are no cracks or holes. I just noticed a small inward dent at the bottom tip of the downstem. It's not so bad, but can this be the culprit? -

Yea, I meant the downstem. I covered the top part with my hand and tried to inhale and no air was getting through. It seems air tight, I just cannot figure out why the draws aren't smooth and why I have to inhale so hard to get some smoke. -

I have the bowl submerged in 1" of water. I always poke lots of holes, and yes I am using the standard clay bowl it came with. I use Three Kings quick light charcoals. I use 1 coal and have it on the edge. -
I just bought a brand new Nammor Hookah from hookah-shisha.com http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-6058-Azizi-Nammor-Hookah.html I set everything up, as per usual, and cannot get good draws from the hookah. The draws aren't smooth, I take a pull and need to inhale like crazy just to get a hit. I've tried loosening up the hose connector, making it tight, and nothing seems to help. Can it be an issue with the amount of water I'm putting into my base? I've tried various levels of water to no avail. Please help me!
try icing the base a little bit too. that'll help cool the smoke. also, how tall is your stem? that has a little to do with the temperature of the smoke. or you could try starting with 2 coals, let it bake for about 5-8 mins. then take them off (for a couple mins if its harsh). then put only 1 on and go from there. thats what i usually do with AF and it works fine. purge often as well, if you let it sit for a couple mins.
The stem is 22cm long (8.6 inches). I usually fill water to cover about 1-2" of the bottom of the stem. Any more than that and I feel the water coming into the hose when I take a pull. It's not only with AF, even with Nakhla I get the same results. I am going insane. I have double checked everything, nothing seems to be out of order. What can be wrong? -

I did all of that, that is how I usually prepare everything and it still isn't working. I alternate between the Mya bowl and another egyptian one I have. Also, how much water does one usually put into the base? Should the water be covering 1" of the stem, or more?
Yeah you're missing the bizz. But yeah and inch is what I go with too. Stick with the egyptian and throw a third coal on to start it off.
Did that earlier with the egyptian bowl and 3 coco nara's and it smoked fine for about 2 minutes. Then it started to burn my throat real bad, I couldn't even take a small pull without coughing. Also, how long do you burn the coco nara's for? I have a coil burner and usually leave it on for about 10-12 minutes (I do not flip them over).
Is it a 1 hose hookah? If you post a picture of the hookah maybe we can give you some feedback. Just make sure the water in the vase is 1 inch above the downstem, the hose adapter/release valve ball bearing is not stuck, shisha is sprinkled in bowl (not smashed too tight), foil is pinched with holes (more than 10 holes at least), hose is clear (blow in the hose to make sure), stem inside tubing isn't clogged. As far as the charcoal, coconara takes between 4-8 min, i usually turn it over. I dont know what else can be wrong!!!!!
I have done all of those things!! I will try to get a picture uploaded soon. Anything else while you wait for the picture? And yes, it is a 1 hose hookah. The ball bearing is not stuck and rest is good.
