  1. Al Fakher -- Pineapple. The taste is very refreshing, very easy to keep smoking well also. Al Amir -- Pina Colada. the smoke is pure thick white and the taste is really cool. everyone ive ever had with me enjoyed it a whole lot. those two flavors are awesome at the same time too.. hah
  2. is there a root beer flavor out already? seems like that would be verrrrrry satisfying
  3. man.... this bowl is HEYUGEEEEEE. but anyway, it's working great. i can't say it's anything special putting that screen underneath the foil, but it seems to hit fine. no shisha went through the hole and we never had a problem overheating, except for one. it seems that the coal rolled onto the middle and people were basically inhaling the heat and it tasted horrible. im sure this is common knowledge to you, but heat all over the place is the name of the game. in our case, with three flavors, unless they mixed well, that doesn't work. so we tried to heat two flavors at a time, and it worked relatively well, except the havana mint overrides pretty much anything. mint taste was in every hit, it controlled the flavor. we stopped after probably 45 min and took a break. then on our second session we moved the coals to the pineapple spot and it tasted good, no more mint. overall i'm very happy and i won't be taking the screen out from the bowl because i didn't notice any negative effects. who knows, the scalli mod could improve everything, but until i get one, i'll be happy with the screen. damn, it takes a LOT of heat to get this bowl going. my roomates and i are not used to this amount of shisha. any questions are welcome haha
  4. Left: Havana Strawberry Top Right: Al Fakher Pineapple Bottom Right: Havana Mint Wish me luck guys... i hope it's not too packed close to the middle metal piece I put in there. if it starts smokin way too hot i might just take it out. lol im nervous
  5. Hey guys... just got my medium phunnel bowl from mnhookah. very pleased with the look and size of this bad boy. my roomates and i are extremely excited to try it. anyhoo.... first problem was that the bowl is much taller and my wind cover doesnt fit, so we propped it up with some scroungables haha. problem solved. next problem was to deal with the large middle hole. ive never tried the phunnel so i don't know how big of a problem it truly is, but i know about the scalli mod and such, so I started to think... I took a thin metal coal cover that came with the hookah, which we never use. cut out the middle with circles and proceeded to fit it as best i could around the hole. hopefully this will work well, the fact that the middle big hole is now 5 small holes may prove successful, plus the holes that now go down the sides of that middle hump may make the air circulate more fully, ala the scalli mod. we haven't tried it yet, but we will be smoking this afternoon, so I will let you know. i don't imagine that the metal will get too hot and burn the shisha, since this used to be used to cover shisha and protect it from the coals. seems like that would be its prime function... any comments?
  6. first off: if your dad says "why don't you bring the bong with..." that seems to be in a comical sense. this must mean that they are not that offended by the whole thing. anyway, why don't you show them what it's like to smoke the hookah? if you have flavored tobacco at your house, then smoke it in front of them. it's not a big deal and they will understand how you use it if you show them. they're people too and you need to deal with it like they are some random curious person. i smoked the hookah with my mom about a week ago just to show her what it's like. my dad won't do it because he doesn't smoke anything but if they have questions, just show the thing to them. it's that easy. they know they can't stop you from smoking anything else out of it, so all they need is to trust you and understanding brings that trust.
  7. hey steve... my name is brian mirsch, have you shipped my supply yet? thanks
  8. QUOTE (rcusick @ Feb 10 2007, 06:54 PM) any chance mine made it in todays shippment? (hoping i dont have to go buy other stuff) yeh, me too... This would be kind of an extra valentine's day gift!
  9. Little physics tidbit : When learning about the exhaust gas pulsations from a car engine, you learn about how the gas is propagated in a tube (having a circular cross section.) The gas (in our case, mostly carbon dioxide) is exitted through a circular opening, the same thing pictured below (from a top-view... the black part at the bottom is the opening of the tube, and the resulting vortex, or "smoke ring" is coming from exhaust gas, shot at 1000 pulses per minute.) As you can see, when gas exits a circular opening without any cross wind or interference, and as long as it exits with distinct pulses (ie not constantly blowing) it will always exit as a smoke ring. The gas first exits as a spherical bubble (shown in the leftmost frame) and then as it is disrupted by the gas behind it, it will break open and kind of wrap around itself creating the vortex (shown in the last frame on the right.) Pretty cool stuff, huh. So the trick is getting your lips as pclose to circular as you can, and doing the pulsing technique described earlier. If you let too much air out, the vortex will not form. And the closer to circular, the prettier and more uniform the smoke ring. Enjoy.

  11. well i just ordered everything my thinking on buying the mist base was that the Mist hookah was only 30". This Polaris is 36". The mist base is 11" deep so I would think that it may be able to fit. The large stainless steel stem on the Polaris was shown as being about 8" long. sooooo it'll be interesting to see what happens. If it doesn't fit, I'll try to return it maybe, who knows. It's only 30 bucks.
  12. OK, I will definately be looking at the Social Smoke ones. I think I'd probably just get the Polaris II (2 hose) instead of the 3hose though. Anybody know the diameter of the polaris stem? I might buy the Mist base just by itself and test it out if it fits, because the Polaris stem is probably longer than the one supplied with the Mist hookah. If only the stem went farther into the Mist base, I bet it would hit better... Also, do those covers on the hoses come off if I wanted to put them on a set of Mya hoses? I think they look pretty cool and they probably insulate the hoses a little bit.
  13. wow, thanks for such a thoughtful response! you know, I definately considered the importance of using only one hose and how that maintains the social feeling. With this new 3 hose hookah my roomates got, we quickly saw that having to hold your thumb over the hoses is a little obnoxious. The one that you linked to... what makes that so successful for smoke volume? It's tall, apparently has a well shaped base, and is only a 1 hose. Is that why? If I was to look around for other designs that might look better to me, would I be alright as long as I stayed with similar looking dimensions?
