Hey guys, just a follow-up. My brother and I cleaned the stem very vigorously with hot water, lemon juice, and baking soda. There is still a distinctive smell in the large ball piece on the bottom, so we weren't sure how well it would do. The longer piece of the stem has a slightly less noticeable smell to it. We packed a bowl, hopes a little low, and we're currently enjoying one of the best hookahs we've ever had. Amazing fix, thanks everyone.

Thanks guys, I'll try the baking soda and lemon juice thing tomorrow, then post back with results. Currently enjoying my Mini Mya Saray instead.

When I got my alien bowl in, it didn't fit correctly on my grommets either. I had a couple extra lying around though, and just doubled-up. It fits nice and snug now, and I haven't needed to use a wet paper towel.

So my Mya stem that I got about six months ago just started smelling and tasting pretty nasty. I've cleaned it thoroughly with water every time I've used it, though I have left it sitting overnight after a few sessions due to being tired/laziness. I tried washing it with soap and alcohol, but it made very little difference. The only thing that washed out was a thin, black foam. Are there any definite ways to clean the stem and restore it to its initial glory, or am I out of luck and need to buy a new one?

My brother just got the same free hookah from H-S, and I'm smoking out of it right now. It took a few tries to get a good smoke out of it, but I'm smoking out of this very moment and it's all-around a very nice, simple hookah. I'm using the bowl that came with it, along with some tangiers, and I'm having very minimal issues with burning. What you may want to try is using one regular coal and another one cut in half. This may not be enough heat for the alien bowl, but it works great for the setup I have.

CH Coconut Coals You can get them from www.hookahjohn.com. They're the only quick light coals I've ever used, but I have noticed they burn faster and don't have as much heat as their regular coals. Cons aside, they burst into fire usually a few seconds after being in contact with a direct flame.

It tastes nearly identical to Sprite. Now if you're drinking one while smoking Lemon Lime, your mouth will explode. Same goes for their Orange Soda. At this moment, I'm thoroughly enjoying some Blue Gum Ball. Definitely one of my favorites. Summer Solstice is also a nice fruity flavor that mixes well with Blue Gum Ball.
