YESSS!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE START SUPPLYING THE UK!!! I do care about shipping costs, and it only becomes viable to buy from USA if i order a ridiculous amount, to split the shipping down over loads of pots. But then customs are likely to completely screw me, which is another problem Somebody please start supplying UK at a reasonable rate. Please! I for one would defintely buy, and buy plenty. Hooky

A thought on that tri metal KM at this site: http://www.hookahcompany.com/tri_metal_kha...n_2249_prd1.htm is it just me or does it look as though that massiv wooden bit that goes into the hose port make it look as though the whole pipe will be really unstable and fall over all the time? Otherwise it looks like a seriously sweet pipe. Again, is it just me, or are the KM amer and hafa no longer on the hookahcompany website? Those used to be the only KM's on there, but don't seem to exist anymore I wanted to buy whichever of the amer or the hafa was the 32" one.

i get the same problem with my hose all the time. Mine is washable (at least it says so on the handle) so i attach it to the end of a hosepipe and blast water through it under pressure. For the first few seconds an absolute load of black shite comes out, which is worrying. Im glad its stuck on the inside of the hose and not in my lungs Im guessing this is some kind of smoke residue or something. Its definitely not rust, or it would be a kinda red colour, right? Anyway, after a few seconds the water runs clear. After that i blow through the hose to dry the inside of it out, and then whirl it around for a while to kinda centrifuge the last bits of water out. It smokes fine after that. I have to do this before every session, otherwise I inhale all the crap and even after its all gone, it still makes the smoke taste foul. The wierdest thing is that if I do this cleaning procedure after a session, then start a new session a few days later i gotta do it again. Somehow the crap re-accumulates, even when its sat doing nothing. Dont ask me how, but it does (im not mad, honest!). It completely baffles me, in a way im kinda glad im not the only one with this problem!

im also the same, like a hill and shiny side down. However, if smoke starts to taste harsh, sometimes i turn the coal over (like a cup) and move it to another area. Since its less efficient this way it stops the shisha burning, and thus reduces harshness

I ordered a couple of 250g pots of Al Fakher from them a couple of months ago. The order arrived 2 days later, so very speedy. Customer service wasnt really an issue then because nothing went wrong and I thus didnt need to use it! The site favours al fakher flavours, but they also stock al waha and nakhla. I am definitely going to use this site as my primary supplier, especially now that Mohammed there has kindly given me a discount code. He said this code can be used by hookahforum members only, the code is HOOKAHFORUM07 and you have to type it in once, hit redeem, then type it in and hit redeem again for validation. The discount is 10% on orders over £30, not including P&P (but that is cheap (to the UK) anyway). Not that much, but still better than nothing! I have 2 criticisms of the site, firstly they stock a fairly narrow range of flavours, all of the obvious ones but theres not much there if you want to try something different. As a supplier of staple flavours though, I havent found a better UK based site. The second criticism is that it was quite pricey, however, the discount code has now helped to rectify that situation somewhat. Even before the discount, it still worked out cheaper for buying a couple of tubs than buying from america because of the crippling shipping costs (i calculated it only became worthwhile buying from the US if i spent about £100, so as to split the shipping cost over loads of tubs of tobacco). Also, if you hunt around for some of the reduced price flavours, that helps as well. Theshishashop.com's postage price was very reasonable as well, or so I thought anyway. Overall satisfaction, 9/10, for a small, quick, no hassle, order of common flavours, in the UK, I haven't found anywhere better.

Do Coals And Sealed Shisha Go Bad?
hooky1742 replied to dank7oo's topic in Discussion Group for all Hookah Lovers
coals can defs go bad, i have had experience of it. I was pretty daft, left half a box out by a swimming pool for a week, and they were really bad after that. They didnt light properly, didnt burn red hot, and didnt make white ash, it sorta stayed black. The smoke tasted revolting as well, and it made me feel really ill. Iv been drying them out in a warm dry place for the last couple of weeks, will have to test and see if they are fixed, but im not holding out much hope! Shisha can keep for about 6 months i think, if you keep it seeled and out of direct sun. -
lol, gas mask attached to a hookah! thats genius LMAO!!! seriously have to try that!

Hi, i was in exactly the same situation when i first wanted to buy a hookah. What i did was just buy the thing, then i kept it at a mates house (he had already managed to convert his mum by convincing her that shisha didnt contain tobacco, lol). After that i kept subtly dropping hints that i was gonna buy one come what may at some stage. After a while i threw a shisha party at my house and brought along my hookah and my mates, then just said hey i went and bought it this afternoon. Got her to try a few puffs on it and she was actually pretty cool about it in the end. My dad is not convinced, but my mum is the more over-riding parent so im sorted

im a non-smoker (except for hookah ) and i am pro the smoking ban as well, people go to pubs mainly to drink, non-smoking drinkers shouldn't have to suffer second hand ciggy smoke, it is simply unpleasant. However, shisha cafes/bars should clearly have a let out of the ban, because everyone in the bar is there for the express purpose of smoking shisha. Thus, there is no-one in there to annoy, so there isnt a problem there.

so your saying if i buy a mya acrylic with screw on base, i can upgrade to a nice bohemian glass screw on base at some stage when i have saved up enough money? Thats awesome Thanks for the info!
-
looking at mya's website it seems as though it is only the acrylic based hookah's that have screw fitting stems. Are there any glass base or bohemian base mya's with screw fit? If so i might seriously consider buying one, as i only hav a cheapy pipe which works, but not brilliantly, it was just good enough to get me into shisha.

The Last Days Of Shisha
hooky1742 replied to Namenone's topic in Discussion Group for all Hookah Lovers
i dont smoke ciggys and i am thankful for the ban from the cigarette aspect, i hate going into the pub for a beer and being overpowered by ciggy smoke. I hate the smell/taste of it. So from the point of view of a non-smoker it is a good thing in places where there are gonna be smokers and non smokers, since non-smokers are normally in the majority. However, there really should be an exemption for shisha cafes/bars because everyone has gone in there for the express purpose of smoking shisha. There is no-one in there to upset. The government is keen for britain to be multicultural, but they remove the great social utility that shisha provides as a link between us and asian/arabic communities in their blanket ban. They had better ammend this law soon. Its such a load of crap. -
What's Your Go To Smoke?
hooky1742 replied to RichL's topic in Discussion Group for all Hookah Lovers
1) al fakher mint on its own. or 2) al fakher lemon mixed with honey and melon flavour non branded stuff i got in egypt - makes the smoke thicker without removing the nice lemony-ness. I smoke both of these with ice cold water in the base, usually use about 6-10 ice cubes in the vase. -
split the difference with them if you want to build good-will. If you aren't bothered about that, i guess you don't technically have to pay them anything extra. They had a dodgy system and left it online (knowing it might undercharge) at their own risk. It would be nice of you to go halfway in the interest of maintaining good relations though.

i made a mixture of grape and mint shisha last night which produced the most ridiculously thick smoke. It was a seriously strong combination, which i couldnt handle and i started to feel sick after about 5-10 minutes. If you start feeling nauseous just stop while its light, it only ever gets worse!! As for the cure, something starchy/carbohydrate-y and preferably stodgy works well. Yesterday night i ate a couple of naan breads which cured the nausea, they work really well so long as you dont let it get too bad first. I think they must sorta stop the liquid in your stomach sloshing around, thus restoring things to normality Oh, and for headaches while smoking, firstly stop smoking, then just take paracetemol/aspirin and sleep it off.
-
about smoking without foil, a mate and me tried that once because we weren't getting thick enough smoke. It was the most revolting drag of smoke i have ever had, it just tasted purely of coal smoke. Gave me a massive headache and made me feel sick. Put me off the hookah for the rest of the afternoon. Still, that was with nakhla, not the stuff thats designed to be smoked w/out foil. I really really don't recommend it unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing!! Trying it as a quick fix for thin smoke really wasnt very bright!

put your mouth in an O shape and say the tiniest fraction of the syllable "oh" sort of make an o sound, as in the o in moth. How hard you have to do that depends on the size of the hole you arrange your mouth into. You can cheat by blowing them through a cardboard tube, because that makes perfect circles and is way easier. Just until you get the hang of the "oh" thing, then you can ditch the tube. There are various ways to do it, that is the only technique i have ever used that works, but i guess everyone finds their own way.

what quality control issues about mya are these? I have only ever heard rave reviews about how brilliant mya's are. I have heard KM are the ones having trouble at the moment... That Al Fakher one looks really nice, i have to say. Anyone out there had experience with it to offer an experienced perspective?

I dont smoke alone, always get a group of friends around and make it a bit of a party. If its a late sort of affair we drink beer, if its just a sort of afternoon chill-out session i make tea. Also, we put on Bob Marley, never ceases to amaze me how much better shisha is with him in the background!! We dont eat with the shisha, usually stop and go get chinese takeaway or something, eat that, then go back to shisha again

They sell fake for the same price as premium!! Ouch. That sucks. Like Johnny_D says, another reason it doesnt really pay to order in bulk is the fact that the more weight you buy, the more the postage is. So get double as much and the postage is (almost) double. So it doesnt really split the postage cost down that much. Also, there's the fact that I'm completely skint to contend with, so I can rarely (if ever) afford to order5 or so pots at a time!! Thats my problem though Anyway, I think I will go to France and see if i cant get myself some cheaper shisha.
-
Its a shame shisha prices are so ridiculous here in the UK. There is an oriental food-store near me which stocks el nakhla double apple and a few flavours of fake "El" fakher (which is still quite nice i think, though obviously not as good as the real thing). The guy who runs that shop is a nice bloke, and gives me a good deal on shisha, about 5 quid ish for 250gm. To get the real stuff i have to shop online though. Does anyone know of any good UK based websites, the only one I can find is www.theshishashop.com which was pretty damned expensive. About 15 quid for a pot of Al Fakher (roughly 30 USD)!! Al fakher on american sites is about 15 USD but when the shipping is added on it works out just as expensive. Does anyone know if such a place exists where i can get reasonably priced al fakher (in the order of 7-10 pounds - 15-20 USD). Or do i just have to go on a booze cruise to France and smuggle it bak past the customs guys?
