1.
It's not so much that he has a strong personality. He's a Gemini. Which is the astrological term for schizophrenic. Seriously, he does more direct advertising in that he travels to retailers. The whole mass market advertising thing has become pretty ineffective overall compared to what it used to be. I could be wrong but I think there's a high mark-up on Starbuzz from wholesale to retail because I know a couple retailers personally who are willing to give me pretty amazing deals on Starbuzz. I just don't much like the stuff. But I know they "require" a certain price point from their retailers. So from that point of view, if you're the retailer and you pay fairly cheaply for a product that is resold at a big profit percentage, you're going to push that product. The biggest glitch I keep hearing on Tangiers from our local retailers is his packaging. They just don't like the whole plastic bag thing. They'd love if he'd keep the interior plastic bag and maybe use a plastic tub like Al Waha, etc. Nobody really likes the tins. They're worthless. They just look pretty on the shelf. 'Rani
FU, Geminis are the best. LOL J/K. I'm a gemini. If you don't mind, can I use your "He's a Gemini. Which is the astrological term for schizophrenic." as my signature still can't stop laughing, best description of geminis I've heard...
2.
Havana phunnels are huge actually, from what I've heard. How small do you want to go? How long do you smoke for? I have a crown micro phunnel and it lasts me some 1.5-2 hours when I am smoking AF and 2.5-3 hours when I am smoking tangiers, so if you smoke for that much time in a single session, then go for it, and if you like to smoke for a longer period, then get a Tangiers small. I should also mention that I did ask Santino to hook me up with one of his larger micros.
well, see here is what I do: with a regular AF and a regular egyptian bowl I smoke it for one set of coals (2 full Coco cubes), and then I take out the tobacco and put new in. I rotate coals all the time. Lasts me usually about 40-50 minutes. Probably have 20% of good tobacco left, but I don't bother separating it. If I use another set of coals, it starts burning after 10-15 minutes. I just tried smoking with my old medium Tangier Phunnel with scalli mod, packed it with AF (about half the height of the bowl) and put 3 halves of a Coco cubes (first time I tried cutting them in half). Lasted me about 40-50 minutes. I had the coals at the same spots all the time, and now half of tobacco is still untouched. I assume I can put another three halves and finish the remaining tobacco. Spots which I smoked still have tiny bits of good tobacco underneath which will probably be wasted. So, my question now: should I continue using the medium phunnel and just underpack it a little (I read somewhere that this can be done), or should I just try a smaller bowl... what do you think personally? Here is a picture of the remaining tobacco. See how once I take out the burnt pieces - there is still some tobacco left underneath. I hope that explains my concern a bit better. 3. actually, does anyone have this Havana Phunnel bowl that Hookahset sells? http://www.hookahset.com/Havana-large-Funnle-bowel/531/ its pretty cheap, and I wanted to try a smaller phunnel, but I don't know if the difference is worth it between a small and a medium Tangiers. So if anyone tried the Havana and says its close to a Tangiers, I might try it since its so cheap.
4. can someone measure the diameter of a small tangiers phunnel please? I am looking at one website, and it says that its 3 inches, which is what my medium phunnel is (at least I think its medium) update: nevermind, found it in the review section.
5. usually a good hot cup of tea with sugar. sometimes alcohol (whisky+apple juice), but thats on weekends. I can't smoke with beer, don't know why.
6.
I'm piggybacking because I'm looking at getting a bowl to go with my new hookah (that'll be a different post). I am looking at: phunnel/vortex - I know they're different does anyone have any preferences and why? mod w/built in cover (http://www.hookah-sh...ookah-bowl.html)- I like that because I'm not the most graceful in the world and I was reading coal horror stories last night Should I get one of each?
I don't know how this bowl with the built-in cover works, I would think thou that the cover is too small, and you would need to use a very specific amount of coal to fit under there. So basically, they would need to be right in the middle of the bowl. I think it might be hard to manage heat properly.
7. oh, and if you guys are going to recommend a bowl, maybe you can also tell me what coals to combine it with. On my regular porcelain cheap bowl I use two Coconaras (flat), or in my last order I had Coco Mazayas - cubes).
8.
Tangiers Small Phunnel. Or get a Crown Signature Phunnel and ask Santino to make it the size to fit about 25g and you'll have a phunnel that's comparable to a Tangiers Mini Phunnel. That's what I plan on doing soon, even though I already have a Tangiers Mini.
I was thinking about Tangiers Small. Is Crown Signature any better? Would I be able to use the Scalli mod that I have with Crown signature? I like it because of the whole "sucking in the foil" thing, and it makes me think that I keep some of the ashes out from going into the base...
9. hi all. Haven't been here for some time now. I was just browsing and looking what people use now, and wanted to get some advice: whats the best bowl out there now that people use? I have a medium Tangiers Funnel with a scalli mod just sitting. I haven't used it in a long time for one reason: too big for one session. And I usually like to put new tobacco for a second session (I don't know why...I just can't smoke the second time without putting new tobacco). So basically it's a waste. So i've been using regular porcelain bowl for a long time now. I use KM and Mya. Tobacco that I usually smoke is AF double apple, grape+mint, strawberry, and, of course, Starbuzz Blue Mist. For coals, I use the flat coconaras. Trying to enhance the flavor, of course. After browsing a little, I see that a lot of people like the Crown micro bowl. How is it compared to small tangiers funnel, or any other good bowl? Any help is appreciated.
10. Thanks, my question is about the hookah tobacco itself. Say, a bowl of tobacco plus charcoal costs $1.00 If I charge $20 for a hookah served, the mark-up is $19, right? What would the profit margin be then? I'm not getting it, lol... am I marking it up 1900% then?
11. Hi, I'm writing my final paper due tomorrow, and one of the questions is asking me to price a product. Whats the usual profit margin that hookah bars make? If possible, could you also write how its calculated? I've been trying to figure it out, but I don't know the tax. (what could it possibly be in MA?) I calculated that the raw materials (tobacco, coal) should not exceed $1.50 per bowl, and a regular hookah price around Boston is $25. Thanks much
12. QUOTE (giant ninja robot @ Sep 18 2009, 05:42 PM) for the record I wasn't trying to come off as a jerk, and may have :/ Sorry if I did. lol not at all... why would u think so? I dont know, I think I sort of meant the flavor is similar... its not the same. I personally found the 360 tobacco to be similar to SB, and I like a little citrus kick to it, but oh well, to each his own. Nope, I dont live in Michigan, I used to go to school there, moved out to Boston several years back. My brother graduated from MSU this May, so thats why I was there. I miss Michigan..
13. QUOTE (srawas89 @ Sep 18 2009, 05:21 PM) the 360 can you have that has blue something on it (cant read it lol) is that alot like blue mist? its called a citrus mist. Exactly the same as Blue mist, but has a very slight citrus (lemony) taste to it. I personally like it more than the SB Blue Mist. Blue mist used to be my favorite. Now this is my favorite )
14. i got the vases in MI too. The work fine with all three of my pipes - gaskets sit very tight maybe I should paint them... the small one was $40 i think, and the big one was $50. Better than buying a small regular vase off online vendors.
15. QUOTE (Stuie @ Sep 18 2009, 03:09 PM) Where did you get the 360 from? Please tell me an online Vendor has it. Cause there is no chance I am getting this stuff locally. Nope, michigan... I wish online vendors had it. I personally think its as good as Starbuzz
16. QUOTE (shaffaaf27 @ Sep 18 2009, 03:04 PM) wow soo many! tell us how 360 tobacco is aswell, and why buy so much? PS, wheres the tangiers!!!! I have one tangiers which I had for a long time, I don't know how to smoke it, I need to find instructions on acclimation etc etc. .. I bought so many because I live in Boston, and I dont go to Dearborn often )) My bro had a graduation in Michigan, so I drove there.
17. Hi everyone, Last week I was asking for an advice on what coal to get, and many said I should get CH. I ordered it last Monday early morning, received it today. I have to give props to John, because I called him Monday to find out about my order - he was extremely nice, said the order was going out the same day as the order was placed - and I received the package today. Good stuff! A took a couple of pictures, enjoy. BTW, I have a couple of bowls for sale that you see on the picture - pm me. I got them in Dearborn, MI back in May. I was so happy that I bought too much stuff. LoL many said that CH is a lot smaller than the CocoNaras, which I always used before. I personally don't think they are a lot smaller... I had one CocoNara left, and this actually was smaller than the CH coal, but overall, I find them to be very close to equal size... Coconara here is on the right... I haven't tried smoking with CH yet, so I dont' know how they ash or how the burn ... Will update later..
18. 21. QUOTE (Jeff_T @ Sep 14 2009, 12:45 AM) I'd order the CH 3 pack from hookahjohn, they come out to $11.67 a box and there should be a coupon to get at least 10% off i think i'll do that ... try something new..
22. QUOTE (Genie @ Sep 14 2009, 12:13 AM) QUOTE (adike @ Sep 14 2009, 12:02 AM) Ok, sort of got an idea that CH stands for )) Thanks for a PM from a member... best place to buy that then? )) If MNHookah been slow, who would get the stuff out the fastest? I usually buy from H-S, but they process an order for a couple of days, and then it takes 5-6 days to get to me... (( Maybe it depends on what day you're ordering? I ordered from H-S on Wednesday and my order is due to arrive tomorrow. well, my experience's been is that if I order tonight, if lucky - I will get them by saturday (( I live in Boston, MA Are CH naturals really that better than the CocoNaras??
