  1. 3 split and arranged like in chreees' guide worked pretty well, only had to move to flip. I didn't do the "palm test" with the foil this last time, and I think that help. Shisha getting stuck to the foil makes a damn mess of the coals and gets you scorchy flavor, I just tested the pack with the tangiers with my thumb after it looked nice, then stretched the foil tight, poked holes, stretched the foil back out and it was good to go. 3 halves of cocas is what I was using. Those things are amazing, and that's probably a lot of it, too. QL's are hot and gross.
  2. Hey, if someone bought one and isn't super happy, I'll pay 30 bucks for it. If you only paid the 25 for the preorder, that's a steal, eh? profit on something you didn't like. Been reading a lot of reviews, I really want to try one out; I get really frustrated when a hole pops too big, or the foil rips and breaks the seal right after I finish pokin' holes. Also melon blend. Noir is the name for the "original" yellow label, right? I stopped smoking hookah for like a year or so and suddenly there are all these new things. Birquq now with melon is good, but it's not as great as the original melon blend, which i'm having trouble finding large stock of. I'd like to buy between 1-5kg, but preferably from only 1 or 2 people, so shipping doesn't ruin the whole, getting it cheap. If you have too much or a surplus, let me know the price. I've never traded here before, and I've not a ton of posts, but I've lurked forever. Posting more actively lately, and I'm fine with paying first if you're trusted/have good reviews, or however you want to do it.
  3. So, my hookah lounge always had us move the coals about every 2 minutes, or when you start to taste too much heat. A lot of that has to do with the fact that they threw tangiers into a traditional bowl and one quicklight 40mm right on top, so it was a hot nightmare, but I still picked up the habit. What i'm wondering is how much I should normally be doing that: I picked up some cocanaras to work with instead of quicklights, as I'd read that naturals are a little cooler. So, should I still be in the habit of moving these every couple minutes? Last night I had QL's broken into 1/4's, and while they burn out in about 20 minutes, I let them sit for the whole 20 before I threw more on, and it didn't toast the bowl at all. So I'm wondering, how often do you guys rotate your coals, on top of a small phunnel? How often do you NEED to be doing this? I'm going to play with it myself a lot tonight, but I also don't want to ruin the bowl waiting. Also, foreplay on the peach birquq smells like seriously, amazing. that's what I'm getting ready to set up tonight.
  4. It was a fine smoke, too. Cooler than my mya mini hookah, relatively easy to clean, no odd flavors. Just seems strange that for the price, it's very clearly hand made with welding skill I could probably muster. Still think I'm gonna hang onto it for now, though.
  5. No, I'm not trolling. I fully understand brand loyalty, especially if you've had good experiences. I do really like my mya, and I want to look at some more in person, for sure. I really like diesel shirts, although I generally hate brand clothes, they fit, just, so goddamn good. Same with asos suits. Sometimes you just like how someone does somethin'. And I searched a bit, people seem to really like their KM's here, and on youtube. It's not a huge deal to babysit thumbs, it just suprised me. I still think I'm going to give it a shot, and bit the bullet if UH won't take it back, doesn't hurt to have a backup. Hell, it might be a LOT better. Worst case, sell here or sell on ebay, buy another one. I do kind of like that each hose inlet is fused straight down, rather than having that big nasty chamber that can get all full of horrible bullshit, as so many cheap hookahs I've bought have. As far as that tray goes, I was wondering if I was supposed to "snap" it over the gap, but it's gonna live there if that's what I do. It'll probably sit just fine, though. It doesn't balance on there well, though. I tried, if you blow on it a little, it'll fall to the side, like in the 2nd picture of it. If you set a half a coal on it, it falls. It really doesn't sit well.
  6. That's so weird, though. I've bought so many 4 hose hookahs with super solid construction, air valve with the bearing, and fully dissasemble-able without any trouble: some had some rough edges and such, a couple would get a little tarnish and rust, and etc, but they were all solid, and each lasted a year or so before I stupidly broke them, or someone else did. All no name, egyptian crappy hookahs on ebay. I'm just having trouble figuring out the real advantage to this brand name hookah, or what sets it apart from other, crappy no-brand hookahs? Besides the fact that it's going to be a lot harder to clean, and whenever I do a group smoke with it, I need to babysit people to keep their thumbs on it. which I hate. As for the grommet, a little water helped me force it down, but it still doesn't fit real snug. I took a couple pictures: Does NOT fit. I don't understand why not. It won't slide over, but it doesn't balance or lock in any way. Any coals on it would easily be teeter-totter catapulted by any mis-tap. Every other hookah I'd ever had screwed on down. Side view of the same thing.   Dirty finger from stickin' it in there. This is me forcing it as hard as I could down. A little water helped, but it never fits flush.   Crazy sharp edges. Cut the hell out of my finger on it. What seems weirdest to me here. 80 bucks on a nice, tall, easy pull apart valved hookah on ebay. Yeah, I'll have to break down more to clean it, and I'll need to keep the bearings dry and lubricated and there are a lot more things that can get dirty or disgusting. I may have to refine it a little bit to be perfect, and it'll clearly need some more upkeep, because it's shitty and cheap, for sure. But what's blowing me away, is this double the price thing with a brand name seems to be missing a lot of the stuff I liked about cheap, shitty ebay hookahs. What I'm worried about, is if i give it a smoke and it's clearly nothing special on my little single hose mya, that I won't be able to return or exchange it. So I guess the TL:DR question here: You think I should give it a shot anyhow, and once it's lit and going, I might see a real advantage over cheap ebay hookahs? A hundred fifty isn't a ton to lose on a hookah I don't like, but that'd sure piss me off and sour me on brand name hookahs.
  7. So, previously, I'd purchased lots of ebay hookahs. Each time I'd find one I liked and had bearing valves, and 4 hoses. They would always be relatively gross, course on the inside, unfinished, and gunky, generally a little hard to clean. I figured hey, I'll get a brand name hookah I've heard good things about, and I liked this KM red pear in design: http://www.ultimatehookah.com/KM-Red-Pear-4-Hoses-2130R.htm?categoryId=-1 So it arrived today. No valves. I cannot seem to unscrew any part of the stem assembly: It goes from the top of the bowl mounting thing to the very goddamn bottom, and appears to be all welded together. No bearing valves at all. Smoking it will require thumb capping. For 4 times more in price than any other hookah I've ever had. And I can't even dissasemble it to clean as best I can tell. Oh hey, and I also can't get the thing to fit in the glass base it came with. there are several sharp edges. I cannot figure out how the coal tray is supposed to go on if I can't screw it down. Is this.... should I expect this? Are KM hookahs generally horrible? I have a very small mya hookah that is solid, but I kinda figured the branded hookahs would be..... worth the 150 bucks, and so on. There is also black shit on the inside. Gross black shit. it smells like metal polish, but has little fibers in it. Anyone have any feedback? I don't know if I should just clean it and try it out, or send it the hell back and head on over to ebay.
  8. I've done this soooo many times with the old tobacco pipe. Briar you can abuse a little, but you get a piece of paper towel stuck in a good meershaum, you're gonna press through that before the towel. Soaking usually works well, or putting a little alcohol in there and burning the inside of the bowl.... but then you really have to clean it out again, and the cycle repeats.
  9.   God I wish. Eric buys, starts filling with tangiers, leaves branding alone, suddenly, all the shops nearby have tangiers. I would be soooo happy.
  10. I really miss tangiers yellow apple F-line. That stuff FLOORED me. Always got bread to set out when I set it up for people because it would nock a person off the hose in 15 minutes. Great for parties to keep those hoses movin'. But really, melon blend. The original one. I'm hoping I like the burqiq now with melon, we'll see soon!
  11. Haven't posted in a while, but i'm a little ticked off. I generally get my shisha from a local shop because I don't have money for shipping, and it's only like 3 bucks more than online, at 17 bucks for a quarter kilo. I think MNhookah sells it real cheap to forum members but they always seem down on their stocks when I order. But anyhow. My local shop both sold and stocked tangiers for thier hookahs, and to customers. Now they're moving to AF, or maybe starbuzz. AF... gives me a headache. It gives everyone a headache. It's not good. I've never tried tangiers, I'm actually giving it my first shot tonight, I bit the bullet and bought some at the shop out of curiousity and fairness (Can't be a fanboy unless I try the competition, and it smells really good) and then I realized it's 12 bucks for a quarter on an oinline vendor, I paid 15 for 100g. So I think my shop sucks now. But yeah. Anyone else see a good reason for this? I'm gonna bug the owner one of these days, and pending my feelings on starbuzz, at least encourage him to do that one to save his clientele and help not scare away new smokers with raging headaches. Uhg.
  12. Appleton is a great idea. You would have some comp. from appleton souvenir and cigar, but I don't know about green bay. Green bay would get a lot of people piling in from the north and from the peninsula, when I lived deep up north green bay was supply town. But in the appleton area, you've got a lot of larger surrounding towns in addition to the appleton area. I like appleton more because it's local and I don't like GB much. And I would SO work for you.
  13. Tangiers F-line Yellow apple Cheap QL coals, phunnel bowl - small, warm water in base, non dairy creamer in the water, 33mm coal in 4 pieces HOLY SHIT. Incredible buzz, great flavor. Really reminiscent of yellow apples specifically. The caffiene and the buzz absolutely floored me. As per tangiers usually is, great smoke, really really thick, great taste, lasted all the way through for about 2 hours. 9/10 for sure. Some of the best I've smoke yet from tangiers.
  14. oh yeah, I will. thanks. Now, to enjoy some Fline yellow apple tangiers
  15. Hey, I'm re-acclimating all of my tabacco, since the weather has been crazy here in WI, and I mostly smoke in my garage, and the climate is less subject to change in there. anyhow, I've got them all set on a table, in seperate containers, but right next to each other. Do you think the potency of the scents could merge the flavors over a dayish of acclimation?
  16. Hey, you aren't one of those guys who work at Appleton souvenir and cigar, are you? I got into hookah there as a suggestion from a friend, then manned up and bought one. I still buy shisha and cloves from there, but with these prices on the internet... heh. 10.50 for tangiers on MNH is too low.
  17. QUOTE (Snoopy1966 @ May 6 2008, 09:27 AM) The tobacco I buy at my local shop is amazing. They got 2 shipments in this past month and all the flavors I got from there I have been able to acclimate for a very short time and have a great taste and big ol' puffy clouds! Summer time should be great here in WI for shipping from HC and HS and MNH. DUDE WE BOTH LIVE IN APPLETON WI ZOMG WHO IS THIS fuck videos, you could freaking SHOW me what the hell is up. OMG small world is small.
  18. Good to know. I will continue to experiment, but I packed a bowl as you said, and it was INSTANTLY BETTER. I'm gonna play with it, but holy crap... It's better than it ever was in my mod bowl. I'll keep you guys updated, but you're all gods. EDIT Still going amazing. A little tickly, but I had my coals in one place too long, I think. I read somewhere that if it's burning, a little water can save a bad bowl. Does this work? the tickle only starts up with my coals at the 12 and 6 positions. it's weird.
  19. OK, so I'm going to try repacking the bowl and seeing what happens, i tried using the bowl as a scoop, and it looks a lot like the pic. I'm not trying to be a dick, but are you guys saying the guy who makes the tabacco is wrong? or is that just old info I'm recalling? Thanks for the quick help. I'll try another layer of holes along the centre.
  20. OK so, I don't know if it's the dramatic climate change over the past few weeks that's effected it, but I acclimate each bowl before smoking it for like an hour. But things just aren't going so well. When I do get it going well enough so that it's not burning, the smoke is mediocre at best. But it usually gets harsh pretty quickly. I've been rotating the coals and working on heat management, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Below are setup photos. as for what you can't see, it's 2 layers of pre-sliced foil, shiny side down. Circa sams club, it's awesome. Below is my tobacco, fluffed and stirred and stuff. Below is my bowl, packed almost to the top. Sonthert or whatever his name is, the tangiers guy said in a thread he doesn't ever have it touching the foil. so I think this is right. fluffed and nice. Below is my hole pattern. From some FAQ, wait I still have it open, here it is. http://completehookah.com/setup/tangiers.shtml Below is my coal setup. Should i try quarters? so yeah help me out.
  21. nix my failed threadjack, just made my own thread. Nothing to see here...
  22. you have to references to penis size in one post. Damn. Compensation? I really enjoy having really thick smoke. It's fun to play with, and just feels nice. But yeah, it's mostly aesthetics.
  23. QUOTE (ilikemyusername @ May 4 2008, 05:35 PM) QUOTE (mattathayde @ May 4 2008, 11:35 AM) it just pisses me off that the dining hall has more vegan and vegi food than regular food. -matt regular? regular should be vegetarian, we don't have the teeth of a carnivore, the intestines of a carnivore or the instincts of a carnivore. the old addage; give a child a rabbit and an apple and see wih one he EATS! and wich one he plays with. also any glycerin coming from animal products would in my book be called animal by-products. i'll smoke any shisha, but that doesn't change the fact that it comes from a fuzzy critter with a face Grow up. Don't push your agenda here. It's obnoxious. I'm not trying to force meat down your throat and none of them are, either. So keep your herbivorous ideals to yourself, and I'll not tell you how I feel about vegans.
  24. So I have some washable hoses coming, but I'll tell you what... I couldn't wait. I purchased some al bahr triple white apple because it was cheap and I was like "I'll compare to tangiers lol" well... it ruined all of my hoses. The smoke left some kind of rotting stinking orange residue inside of my old hoses. Damn could I not wash them for the life of me. I couldn't even save the end pieces to use with these, as you'll see. It was disgusting. On a related note, my ebay hookah was amazing except for the hoses. 75 bucks for the 4 hose bastard. Everything is solid, airtight and easy to clean, 'cept the hoses. God it smells like carrots in here. So yeah. Al bahr. Don't. Ever. Buy. Ever. I acclimated it for a day and it still smelled like play doh. Tasted like it too. The water I used had popsicles in it, as I was out of ice cubes, and it smelled like rot after that damn smoke ran through it. Never smelled that way with tangiers, either. I don't like cubes with tangiers, but it seems to make things nicer with other brands. So yeah. Heres some pics of my makeshift solution while I wait for the damn cheap washables to come in from The devil's playground. Damn those guys are nice, and quick to reply about stuff. But yeah. No caps, but it fits in alright anyhow. Works good, too! So yeah. Pretty nice lookin' guy for 75 bucks, huh? EDIT: Maybe I got a terrible batch, or maybe I'm spoiled because I smoke tangiers almost exclusively... (meaning to pick up some starbuzz, and a few other brands with decent reviews... open to suggestions) but everyone else says it tastes pretty damn good? I contacted the guys who sent it to me, and I'll see what happens. I'm not mad, it was only 4 bucks, and the hoses were shoddy already anyhow, so it's not like it's thier fault. Maybe the tabacco's fault. Can shisha rot? Maybe it's rotten.
