  1. Wow! Thanks for the replies! As far as cleaning the KM stem goes, I think I'll have to use the bathtub, since I don't have access to any hose outside (gee, I thought I'd said that already!) I still think I'm going to save using the KM for when I have company, as it's just a way cooler pipe and more trouble than it's worth for only lil' ole me. And the QL coals? Maybe I got some better ones, or maybe I'm just not sensitive to the difference? I have been accused of being insensitive once or twice in my life... OH, and I guess it IS a Vortex phunnel. Pretty good. Actually, when I first used the regular phunnel, after a while I was having some trouble with the draw on the pipe, until I realized that the coal was pushing down on the foil and closing up the hole. I had to tighten up the foil. The Vortex doesn't have this problem, since the foil can rest on the top of the "mesa" and still gives a good draw. Anyway, thanks again, and I'll be around! Andy
  2. Hi, All, So, I've been smoking my MYA QT for a couple of months now and I love it. Got some phunnel bowls (one that's an "imitation" where (if you can visualize it--I really ought to take some pics) instead of the large hole in the center, it has a little "mesa" in the middle with some holes poked around the sides) which are my bowls of choice at this point. I also bought a KM Red Pearl which I've smoked once (smokes beautifully, by the way) but the downstem is like 32 inches long and when I tried to wash it (idiot that I am) I started running water through it, right onto my kitchen floor! I live in an apartment, so I don't have a hose outside. Should I wash it in the bathtub? Do I really need to use lemon juice or anything other than soap and water? Anyway, I've put the KM "on the shelf" for now, since I'm having a lot of fun with my MYA... Been trying a lot of coals. I've read some reviews where people say that the quicklite coals impart a flavor to the shisha, but I can't taste much of a difference between them and regular coals. I threw away the bag of lemonwood hunks that I had, too much trouble. Anyone have anything to say on this subject? Just wondering if YOU can taste the difference. Well, maybe it's time to take pics of some of my stuff, or soon... Andy
  3. And now I'm thanking you all, after the fact! I'm still not too sure about the "natural" coals... I live in an apartment, and I think I'll have to take them outside and take a hammer and wood chisel with me...
  4. QUOTE (Sherv @ Aug 25 2008, 05:49 PM) Jalapeno sounds great but I'd love to see chipotle or habanero I'm with you! How about GARLIC? Pepperoni? Black Bean Sauce? Single-Malt Whiskey? Bourbon? Rum? Hot Dog? (with mustard and/or sauerkraut?) ooh: SMOKED SALMON!
  5. Hi, All, I live in New Hyde Park, Nassau County. Anybody want to show a newbie the ropes? Andy
  6. Hi All, OK, I got my MYA QT home and set up last night, and I filled the bowl with Al Fakher Jasmine (I like jasmine, what can I say?) and I got it up and running with a single quicklite golden coal. Nice smoke (but I don't know if it was "enough"), I had to use another quicklite coal after about 45 min, and then I let it go out for a while. About an hour later, I broke open my bag of lemonwood coals, found one that looked likely and got it going on my electric stove. I couldn't get quite as much smoke from it, but it gave me the impetus to ask the following questions. And I've looked around, but I couldn't find answers to these questions around here or at any of the links I've found. (I must admit that maybe I didn't look around as well as I could have...) 1. How do you know when a bowl is finished? 2. Is it OK to let a bowl "die" and then re-start it later on? If so, how long is too long to wait? 3. How the heck do you break up huge chunks of "natural" coal without getting coated with dust and black lung to boot? 4. Is it OK to not fill the bowl all the way to the top if you're going to be smoking solo? Is there some way to modify the bowl if you want less shisha in it? 5. The lemonwood seemed to get some "dark" (cold?) spots, no matter what I did to it. Is this common? Is there some way to fix that? 6. How much is "enough" smoke? 7. Should I maybe find a local hookah lounge and go there to learn more, or someone in my area who's more experienced? I hope I'm not being too "needy" with all these questions... And I thank any and all of you (in advance) who take time to reply. Thanks, Andy
  7. QUOTE (ryno @ Aug 25 2008, 04:34 PM) Welcome to the forum! Be sure to read the rules! Did, have and done! I play well with others. Thanks!
  8. Howdy All, Just got my first hookah today (MYA QT) and I haven't even smoked it yet! I smoked once, years ago, at a friend's house, but I've been itching to learn more / do more and I can't wait until I get home to try it out! Anyway, I live in New Hyde Park, so anyone who wants to maybe get together with a noob and show him any tricks, let me know! Andy
