highc1157
The mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a tropical evergreen tree, believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas. The tree grows from 7 to 25 meters tall. The rind (pericarp) of the edible fruit is deep reddish purple when ripe. The fragrant flesh is sweet and creamy, citrusy with some peach flavor. web250
Mangosteen is a fruit mainly grown in Asia. It is illegal in the US because it contains a toxin I believe; although you'd need to eat like a thousand of them to be harmed by it.
Hookah_Bob3
It's not in america because a) risk of fruit flies and spoils very quicklywww.mangosteen.comThis man is working on importing mangosteens to the US Edited April 18, 2007 by Hookah_Bob3
downwardzspiral
LOL, as a first post here, I had to post in this thread. You guys keep talking about Mangosteen and its funny as hell. Your right, its a fruit from SEA (South East Asia) mainly from Thailand. And the name is Mangosteen is actually making fun of Americans. I guess as the story goes, some guy kept asking a seller of "Mangosteen" what the name of it was. He was given the Thai name (I gotta ask my gf for that cause I forgot what it actually is) and the guy couldn't or wouldn't pronouce it. Kinda like we here in the states refuse to call anything by its real name. Like its Nipon and not Japan, or Germany isn't Germany but rather Deutschland. But anywho, I guess this guy kept asking over and over day after day what the name of it was, so the seller came up with a name that the guy could pronouce that sounded a bit like mango which the man already knew was a fruit. But at the same time, the name Mangosteen is reffering to the bottom of the foot. In Thailand (don't know about all asian customs) the feet are very low. And pointing your foot at someone is basically like giving them the middle finger (found that out the hard way).Oh as a side note, the owner of my local hookah bar tells me he is the main distributor of Layalina for the US and they are planning on comming out with another apple flavor tabacco and I don't know about you but I hate the name they are thinking using for it. It was something along the lines of Venom or poison or something like that. He thinks that everyone in the US loves names like that that are all in your face. And the box art is a skull with either it was a snake or a rose i forget in its mouth and its on a background that looks like the old windows screensaver starfield.
