Jap Coals

I got my Jap coals today and how do i know when they are fully heated and ready to go ontop of my phunnel? and are 2 coals good enough for a med phunnel bowl?

Probably gonna need at least 3 coals for a medium funnel. I use 3 on a small funnel, You can tell they are ready when the silver coating flakes off. roughly like 5 mins on a stove.

i allways use 4 on a med funnel

Wait for the silver coal to burn off. I use a blown torch to start them and the silver is ready to come off
after about 1 min.

I place them into an old iron skillet. Blast the hell out of them until they glow. turn them all over over
blast again a couple of times. Then blow all the silver off.

Then place them at each 1/4 of the bowl. They last a good hour to hour & 15;.

for the 2nd session on the bowl i place a fresh set of 4 on the previously unoccupied areaas of the funne
and again get another good hour

I had my smoke, had 2 coals and 1 little cause it fell, burnt the carpet and broke (omg) I had Liquorice (AW) and couldnt really get much taste, I'm gonna try Smiley's Blueberry tonight again and i'll let you know how it goes.

tht sucks man, that is why i smoke outside.. no more burning holes in the carpet

Wow, On my regular egyptian head, I use 2 33mm kings, and I burn the bowl in 50 minutes or so... 4 Japs on a phunnel? Wish I had some japs I wonder how many 3 kings im going to need on a medium funnel. Guess I'll search it.

don't forget joe that one jap-style coal is probably about 1/2 the total size a 33mm 3-king.
But i find they keep heat longer... and have no taste.

and i keep a medium funnel bowl going for 2 hrs... EASYILY.
