We all know it happens. We've all been there before. It may have even happened to ourselves in a momentary brain fart, however not all people have the forethought to take the initive for themselves.

What am I aiming at? People who come on the forum asking a question about a particular item, that has been asked hundreds of times before, only to be given the response of "try searching". Take the recent example of funnel bowls.

Now whether or not it was said in sarcasm, humor, or in no hurtful way, the askee of the question will no doubt feel a little intimidated and also, after that interaction a little humiliated. We all know among ourselves that we are striving to be a helpful group of people that want people to learn and grow, but not everyone has this thought coming into the forums and we could be leaving a bad taste in peoples mouths as a first impression.

So with that out of the way, Do you think it would be a good idea to have an "Informative" section of the forum to discuss different pieces of hardware? Not a review section, that is already taken care of. I mean a forum specifically designed for these people who come in and say "What is a smiley Bowl?" We can have a section with a picture, measurements, what it's made out of, what it does thats so special, etc etc. Not a bunch of people saying how great it is, or how it compares to this and that. Just kind of......An encyclopedia of Hookah Stuff if you will.

This forum is only as good as we make it, and there are alot of good writers/reviewers in this group. Personally, I think this to be a good idea or else I wouldn't be posting it. There is just so much information out there, and so little of it is known other than word of mouth.

Dude, I already tried.. I wanted to make a FAQ, but it was rejected quite quickly. Most people like answering the same question over and over again... or they get the gratification of the "use the search noob" phrase.

Ok not referring to a Q and A posting, or a New user click here button or a faq or a thread of quick answers to questions. I'm talking about a Section broken down that describes what an item is/looks like/what makes it special. Alot of these Hookah sites just show a picture of it, but dont describe anything, so the only way you're going to figure it out is to go somewhere and hunt for the info. If we had an informative section where someone could click on for more info, it would be helpful.

Even if we had a discussion of equipment section, there are so many different things out there it would become a mess and no one would be able to find the piece they wanted to know aboutwithout searching for it, and then they'll just ask the question again because no one searches... rolleyes.gif

if people are to lazy to search then they will probably be to lazy to contribute to the forum. some times we all have questions we ask that have already been covered but maybe not all sides of the question where answered, that would be a time some one should ask questions and not get flamed. But this is a community and being that we should be happy to have new members but, we are here to work together not work for them.

Alas..being lazy isn't a bootable offense..we'd have to get rid ofhalf the new people and a quarter of the stablished people..besides, what's so different about what the OP was asking about and this:

The difference is those are "review" forums where multiple people post multiple feelings about an item.. Sure, maybe you get someone during a review that describes the item in question but not always. What I am referring to is an "informative" section about what the items are, do, size, etc, etc. I'm pretty sure I said that in the first post.

Whats a phunnel? whats a scalli mod? where do i find shisha/ hookahs? etc. it will never stop the best thing to do is just answer there question by telling them to search its not hard and its not rude or mean spirited. Not everyone can be catered with a full explination of a phunnel or mod every time they make a post.

Well our search feature does kind of suck, just due to the fact that there is something mentioned in almost every post (I.E. phunnel, or scalis mod) the results that come up are just too much when compared to other forums with different themes/topics.

Scalli mod.. Umm... What's it for? Whats it do? I see it's made for a funnel, but ok. Lets say I know nothing about it..Still clueless, do I put the shisha in it? do I fill it with fluid??

a "small" windcover... Ok great, fits most small hookahs. How tall is it, whats the diameter?

I could go on and on and on picking out things like this but I am not going to because it's pointless. No doubt it's much easier to say "well it's the fault of the website and not ours they should describe it better"

But like I said, the forums are only as good as we make them. So, we can keep passing the buck and not being the better entity wanting to improve peoples experience. After all, we're not selling the stuff, remember? It's just an idea to help people out. I'm not going to argue for it, don't want to make things better or listen to suggestions, which is all it is, thats fine. Edited by Shifty
