It should never burn. What smokes is the vaporization of the juices of the tobacco.  Three things are either happening:

You are either overfilling the bowl. You only should fill the tabacco about 3/4 of the way from the top of the bowll.

Or you are putting too many coals and have too much heat the tobacco.

Or you are putting too many holes in the foil.

It could be a conbination of all three.

I hope this helps.

after my smoke is completely done and i take off the foil, my ma'assell is also black....I thought this was normal as that is what happens after the molasses and flavor is vaporized off....is this not the case with your ma'assel Cypress?  It looks like the same color after you're done as when you put it in?

When it is burned it is caked together like a patty and sticking to the
foil.  Most of the time after i smoke it is still moist on the
bottom with the AF.  HH you have to watch it closer since it is so
finely cut.  Some blackness is normal on the top layer of
tobacco.

yeah a lot of times the top layer is all black but the bottom of the AF kinds are sometimes still a little fresh...
Glad the top being black is normal.  Man Cypress thanks again for all the samples.  I will probably send you stuff a week from this Monday.
