Good Lord, That Made A Difference

Recommended Posts

I'm a relatively new hookah smoker. I smoked, and tried out a few of of the techniques I've read about here on the forum. Heat management, bowl packing, all that kind of stuff. GOOD LORD.

Went for an hour and a half, had to stop because it was getting too intense. I was in a hot tub, which made it pretty awesome also. I was smoking hookahhookah which I haven't read great things about, but to be honest it was pretty goddamn amazing. Great clouds, Great flavor (peach), and IT JUST KEPT GOING AND GOING. I was smoking out of a mya acrylic, mya ceramic bowl. When I had to stop and I emptied the bowl the bottom half WAS STILL ALMOST UNTOUCHED. I could have gone for so much longer...

Buzz was nuts, I stopped 40 minutes ago and my head's still spinning.

God I love Hookah.

Thank you all you guys for the tips and information, it obviously does help to a huge degree! (I've never gotten anything like this before)

I started off with a clean hookah. I've not done that sometimes and I think flavorwise it makes a big difference. I took a fork and stirred the shisha VERY well, making sure that wetness was uniform. I even fluffed it up a little to get it loosed. Packed it in the bowl quite high but loosely, just a little bit below the rim. Put ice and cold water into the base. Screwed everything together extra tight, as per suggesestion from another thread. I used tinfoil, not a screen. Poked medium sized holes in concentric circles so that every hole was pretty much exactly as far from each surrounding hole in every direction. I never blew through the bowl or anything like that. I made sure the tinfoil was extra tight around the rim and the bottom of the bowl to make sure i wasn't letting any air in there. Even though they are all self sealing, I took out all but one of my hose adapters and screwed in the plugs that used to be there. Grabbed my tongs, lighter, coals, and hookah and headed to the hot tub.

My first coal I split into thirds. I lit the thirds, blowing on them for a few seconds after they were done sparking and then placed them on opposing thirds on top of the tinfoil. Initially, it was just mediocre. As the coals and the bowls heated up it just got better and better. However, after I tried to blow off the ash and ended up blowing off all three pieces of coal (oops, well they were almost done anyways) I lit another coal. This time, however, I had to get out of the hot tub and so I was cold, so I just lit it whole, waited for it to stop sparking, blew on it a little, and plopped it on dead center. The density of the smoke got significantly thicker, the taste got significantly stronger, and the buzz started kicking like a mule. This is where the pictures are from. I would call it the best smoke I have had yet.

I think doing thirds at first and then a whole one with a very full bowl allowed me to smoke this way because the first coal heated up the bowl and used the top of the tobacco, to the point where I could put a whole coal on top and not have it burn the tobacco. I DO NOT think I would have had these results if I had put the whole coal on at the beginning.

Thoughts?

PS Smoking in a hot tub- would recommend it to anyone, its niiiiice Edited by poopooshaboo

Goldens are the best quicklights out there I think, I've tried a lot of em, and those ones always seem to last the longest, light the easiest, and don't ash like crazy...Good that the forum ideas helped though man, I learned some cool tricks here too.

Yeah, I like the HS Goldens the most out of any quick-light. I haven't used the HC Golden Japs, but I use the Chinese version and they're great.

I'm gonna try smoking in the hot tub one of these days. It sounds great.

I'm fine with goldens. As much as I know i "should" want to use the natural coals or stick coals or anything but the instant lights, I don't. They're too damn convenient.

Smoked again on saturday, got the same results. I'm loving this.

I like 3kings. I have a couple rolls of goldens i got free with a HS order but I find they are freakin impossible to break apart. They also dont light as fast as 3kings. As for taste and longevity i find them about the same. I have half a box of canary japanese coals which are really good but they sure are a bitch to light if you dont have a torch handy. As for natural they stink too much when lighting and ash like crazy. Edited by AinSophAur

Try using a steak knife (or any other serrated knife) and score the rounded end of the quicklite. It makes it a lot easier to break it in half.

get a cheap pair of wire cutters.. they work perfect, and cut the coal exactly where you want it to be done:
