does anybody do the foil ring thing to keep the coal a little farther away from the bacco? Like a foil ring on top of the first piece of foil and another ontop of that? I wonder if this may help my taste issues? anyone ever do this? or suggest this? We tried it once with rolland coals, tasted like crappy lighter fluid, turns out it WAS the coals not the tobaco, Iwonder if I should set it up like this one more time and give it a try. any suggestions?

yeah, ive been using the foil ring technique the lsat 4, 5 sessions ive smoked and i have noticed a difference. theres no harsh smoke, no burnt shihsa, and the whole bowl gets smoked. before using the foil ring i would burn a lot of the shihsa, getting harsh smoke, and i woudl waste a lot if italso. now when i take offthe foil, the shisha doesnt stick, its just a ball of dark crap. DO IT, it wokrs.

Explain "foil ring"

Take a piece of aluminum foil, and roll it up into a pencil-sized and shaped flexible 'stick' of foil. Then make a circle with it, the same diameter as the rim of your bowl. Place that down on the rim of the bowl, then place your aluminum foil over that and smoke as usual. Gives a buffer between the aluminum foil/coals and the shisha

easier ways of heat management that are more effective, just buy a deep bowl and don't pack it up all the way.. basically doing the same thing.. also jus use less coals

It's a waste of foil and time. I would just recommend perfecting your packing technique then going through all that hassle.

Yeah I found that to be my conclusion as well. I used to smoke with the foil ring technique and I was happy with it, but then I started getting lazy (preparing a hookah really makes me not even wanna smoke sometimes lol) so I just use two pieces of foil. My bowl is pretty small, I'd say it only has room for... I dunno, like 10g, but it's usually just myself smoking from my hookah, so it's no biggie. Also not packing it all the way to the top saves shisha too obviously, and makes for better clouds and taste IMO.

Too bad the local hookah shop isn't hiring, the dude who packs the bowl does a really bad job at it and I'm not the type to tell someone how to do their job.

WTF is the purpose in the tea light method? That is SOOO labor intensive and a waste of time. And doesn't even look like it's that effective. Stupid ass idea.

They're both kinda stupid ideas if You ask me. With the ring method u cant really moves the coals much and didnt look like much smoke at all and then its so far from the shisha by the time it really gets going u need more coal

It's a waste of time and there are better techniques. I used to do that technique for a few months but got lazy. It does it's advantages; my sessions lasted longer. Edited May 7, 2007 by Gaara

If you burn your shisha from 1 layer of foil, just add less shisha and/or heat

I would have to say- it looks neat... but in the long run of things- better packing and heat seems like a more effective way... but then again I am not the most experienced so what do I know?

yea look at the size of coal you need to put on it too. It is rediculous.. I would need to put on like 3 QLs haha

+1 DEEP BOWL!!!! This is very important... I have an awesome bowl, it is HUGE, I thought it was a joke when I first saw it so just kinda by accident I discovered that if you have the shisha about 1cm from the foil, it makes it burn much slower and it's never harsh (i always use double foil too). This discovery came about when I was thinking... There's NO WAY I'm gonna smoke all this crap, I won't fill it up. It just turns into a dry ball of brown stuff at the end... no burning

Im guessing it came from Germany? Well when the original " Tealecht Method" video surfaced like...5 motnsh ago or maybe 8 months ago, I trie dthe method out and took pics. It smokes just about the same only you use less coals.
