I've had various Tangiers flavors exhibit the same smell. It's not based on a certain flavor either as I've gotten some of the flavors multiple times and the smell is not always there. It doesn't have an impact on the flavor, just the aroma in the container.

Sometimes its humidity shock...some stuff in humidity shock gets stinky. When it acclimates, it bounces back and the aroma returns properly.

Tangiers have you pinned down exacly which ingredient causes this bbq smell? Have you tried fixing it? It seems that your shisha is the only one that suffers from this odd bbq phenomenon smell?

theres only a few that smell like that, and if you acclimate them for a couple hours than it goes away. Either way, when you smoke it, it doesnt taste like BBQ

Read my previous response. Its not a case of what, its from molasses as a base in a low moisture tobacco. Most brands of maasel on the market are 30-60% water by weight. With so much water, they just dry out over time. Tangiers, being 9-11% water by weight, is pretty dry, and establishes equilibrium with the moisture in the air. As the air gets damper, the tobacco picks up moisture. If the air dries out, Tangiers follows behind. All brands of tobacco will eventually, if allowed to dry in an open tub, dry to more or less the same moisture level as Tangiers...the ambient equilibrium level. In cases where the air becomes drier, my theory goes, the tobacco dries out too...so water vapor evolves from the Tangiers...water that dissolves the molasses smells and carries them aloft. The moisture also thins out or masks the smells of some of the weaker smelling flavors.
