Buying First Hookah, Not New Hookah User

Recommended Posts

I love smoking shisha. I have decided to buy my first hookah. I want a baby hookah that is easy to pass around while playing poker (cards get in the way, need something that isn't stationary), easy to transport, and something I can smoke in my truck while cruising down the road on my long trip to school. I was looking at the 10" Sultan Baby Hookah and the 9.5" Pumpkin Hookahs. I am not worried about what bowl comes with it because I will be replacing it with a combo bowl (latch on wind cover with coal screen). The Sultan appears to have a wider base and looks like it has more room for water and ice. The pumpkin hookahs just look too shallow. If anyone has any advice on either one to get, or has any experiences with either hookah, please fill me in. My goal in mind is something very portable that when I get the craving, I can just whip out, pour some bottled water and ice in and start smoking. Also, which tobacco is better? Havana, Al-Fakher, Layalina, or Fumari? I want flavaorful, thick smoke. Any help is appreciated! unsure.gif

There are a number of good (small) hookahs available from the on-line stores. If you have no supplies, purchased previously, then you may consider purchasing a starter kit. That way you get the hookah, some tobacco, charcoals, fire tongs, etc. all in one package.

I suggest that you try a variety of tobaccos, until you find one flavor or flavors that you prefer. I tried several different fruit flavors, but I found that I preferred "mixed fruit", with no single dominant flavor. Then there are some hookah tobaccos, that have no fruit flavorings at all, you may find that you prefer this type of tobacco once in a while.

The important thing to remember, is just relax, and enjoy the moments with the hookah, you don't "smoke" a hookah, you EXPERIENCE a hookah!!

If you can stand having an extra 4" added to your hookah, I would highly recommend a Mya QT, Mya acrylic or a very solid Egyptian Fatuta style hookah. If you still want to go small, get the Mya Bambino. All of those are sturdy hookahs in the 50 dollar price range.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Sultan made hookahs as they are cheaply made and not worth the 25-50 dollar price tag when you can get something twice as nice for either the same amount of money or for a bit more. I received a pumpkin for free... while it was a nice gesture, it would never last during a poker game because you must keep one hand on the hookah to prevent it from falling over and another on the hose to smoke.

Reputable hookah vendors with forum discount:

MNHookah.com (they have a starter pack for the bambino, & QT); Hookah-Shisha.com ; Hookahcompany.com in that order.

If you have any other questions, ask away!
