billy
I use jap easy lights on my stove to heat them up. What I want to know is, whilst heating them, will the silver coating come off themselves or do I have to blow them off? I usually blow the silver coating off when they are heating up.So...do I leave it heating up untill the silver coating comes off or what?

random
Well ive tried putting em on the bowl even when the silver flint is on because it takes a while to get em off and it definently works better when it's off though

Sonthert
It will flake off by itself, as the coal shrinks from being burnt.
samildanach
i scrape of the silver coating and then light them with my blow torch, a bit messy but a hell of a let quicker
Sonthert
In the case of Chinese coals, it is just paint...it matters not. In Japanese coal, it actually promotes combustion. They do make charcoal tablets without silver coating...wouldn't that be easier still?
Shifty
QUOTE (samildanach @ May 7 2007, 12:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>i scrape of the silver coating and then light them with my blow torch, a bit messy but a hell of a let quickerScraping the coating off is quicker?? I just use a blowtorch on both sides for a minute or two and then let them sit for 5 mins, give them a tap and the silver coating just flakes off.
