Match Quality Of Hookah Bar

Recommended Posts

I've been going to a local hookah bar alot lately and the quality difference between my person Mya Acrylic and whatever they have is pretty substantial. The pull on thier hookahs are perfect and most importantly though the flavor is amazing. In a 45 minuet session I get flavor during the entire time... and no harshness! I was just wondering how do they manage to do this without ever having to move the coals or anything? They seem to like to stack to ontop of eachoter... is that the trick?

There are so many different things that could be leading to it...

What type of hookahs they have
What type of shisha
What type of coals
How it's set-up (base and bowl)
How often it's cleaned

Then you have your hookah... how many times do you clean it, are you using the same brand/flavor shisha - coals? Do you set-up your bowl & Base the same way? How big is your MYA (height)... if your new, you'll need experience and lots of practice to set up the hookah (Practice makes perfect).

Have you watched them set-up? Maybe even ask tips and pointers maybe.

I dont typically use that much shisha so I'm not sure if thats it and the sessions I get out of mine is similar to thiers.

I typically use layalina flavors so I guess it could be a difference there. Thier hookah is much taller though, could that be a big factor. Can the actual hookah make that big of a difference?

hookah height isn't that important, many people on this forum will agree that the 11" pumpkin hookahs hit extremely well (they are kinda picky to figure out the water lvl at first though), but there are many different factors that can cause an unpleasant smoking experience:
Water Level
How packed the shisha is
and heat management are the main factors.

I personally don't own a mya acrylic, but they are really good hookahs.

Try filling the water level to half and inch to an inch above the base of the stem. As for packing the bowl mix the shisha around in the container (if you only bought a 50g sampler, put it in a bowl) and mix around the shisha, then pick up the shisha with a fork and gently place the shisha in the bowl, only fill the bowl about 3/4-7/8 full (you can fill it completely but it's easier to control the heat of the bowl if the aluminum foil does not touch the shisha), cover the bowl with aluminum foil and then poke the holes in it (there are many different patterns and ways to poke the holes, you can search the forum for different techniques and find which one works best for you, i personnaly just use the pointy adapter that came connected to my tongues, which is about the size of a toothpick and poke about 25-30 random holes)

I do however use the same mya bowl on my medium hookah that you are probably using, i would recommend only using one coal on the hookah at a time with that bowl for layalina shisha, if for some reason you deem there to be more heat, break up a coal and only add a piece of it to the bowl, 2 coals is too much heat for that small of a bowl (i assume you are using quick-lite coals). i also recommend making sure that the coal is completely lit before you set it on the bowl and some people recommend not taking hits until 2 minutes after you set the coal on the bowl (again personal preference).

Hopefully this will help you with having more pleasant smoking experiences Edited by chrisrbts

+1 height doesn't matter. My little mini mya hits just as good as my 3 foot blue cobra...

product placement!!!

I dunno about the water level... as long as the stem is like 1/2 inch below the water or more youll be fine. its a matter of how your vase is shaped and how much gurgling you like.

Flavor could be the shisha you're using, not all shisha has that strong of flavor (yuck, al amir tastes like cardboard)

Just make sure the shisha and foil don't touch, and that your coal is staying lit... should work.

If it's getting harsh, move the coal to the edge, if it's still harsh, take off the foil and drip some water in there.

Oh and check all your seals too

Water level was the most trouble I had trying to get my hookah to smoke perfect. Lengthen your stem to where the water level is around half an inch to an inch and a half, and the vase is about a quarter full.

Just practice with heat management on different tobaccos until you just know how many coals to use for each bowl and type of tobacco.

Also, you mentioned you smoke Layalina. I have always found their flavors to be very mild and subtle. It is one of my favorite brands because of this. You might want to try some different brands if you haven't already.
