kevin86
I have been very interested in trying hookah for some time now. I have not had the opportunity at all though. This summer my wife and I are going to San Diego and I know there is a pretty good hookah scene out there. Can anyone recommend ways to enjoy your first time smoking hookah?I'm not sure my wife will even want to go, as a non-smoker, do you think she will enjoy it? What is the atmosphere generally like a a hookah bar/lounge? Is it really laid back? Or is it more like a club atmosphere.

bolt in blue
Every hookah bar I've ever seen has been really chill. The one local to me serves middle eastern foods, has free wifi, lots of tables for eating or working, and lots of pillows if you just want to lounge on the floor. It' seems to be a popular place to hang out, even if you're not smoking. It's about as far away from a club as you can get in a college town. cemab4y
I have been enjoying the hookah, since I lived in Saudi (1997). I was 43 years old, at the time, I never smoked cigarettes before (I have never smoked a cigarette in my life, and now I am 53). Take it easy at first, draw some air in with your first hits on the pipe. I was a little woozy at first, and I coughed a bit, but after a few hits, I relaxed and enjoyed it very much. My wife smokes cigarettes, she has yet to experience the pleasures of hookah.

Sonthert
Well, there's around 5 within a mile or so of me. Another dozen within 20 miles.Plenty. Hit one per night? That may be a little overambitious...maybe a little obsessive...you could hit like four or five and get the high points.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it but it will be my first time smoking hookah as well. I've been very intrigued by it, so I must try it, and why not while on vacation. Maybe you could help us get it right?
Johnny_D
Kevin86 :-You will enjoy it When you hit a bar let them know it's your first time - don't be shy! I did! They were great. recommended the 'easier' smoking flavours ect ect.I gave up smoking cigarettes about 5 years ago - been smoking Shisha for about 10 or so.Never had a cigarette since.JD
