No Taste!

Recommended Posts

I have the following flavours:

Layalina Strawberry - No taste just harsh

Al-Waha - Liquorice - Very little flavour

Smiley's - Blueberry - No taste just smoke....

I use a medium phunnel, I dont pack loads of it just enough to fill it. I use 3 Jap easy light coals I get loads of smoke but very little taste. I've also tried the "freezer" method but doesnt make a difference. I ordered Al-Fakher Double Apple and gonna give that a try if it arrives tomorrow. Any one have some methods I could try tonight? Cheers!

Try 4 easy lights... The blueberry is a particularly good flavor... Maybe packing the bowl looser? And if you put ice in the base, don't. Regular water is warmer smoke, but more flavor.

Hi Billy,

If the tobacco's are fresh I would say it may have something to do with how you are packing the bowl, or how clean your hookah and hose are. With the Phunnel Bowls you should get them pretty packed and limit the holes you poke to the outside with 1 small one in the middle so you don’t suck in too much air. You dont want to stuff it, but make sure the bowl is full and and the tobacco is fluffy(meaning it has some air in it). Other than that I would also recommend you wash your hose and let it dry along with the rest of your hookah.

Hope this helps. wink.gif Edited by hookahlife

How many holes should i poke on the foil?

Billy,

I would recommend adding a second row of holes to that which is in your picture. Also, if you have a small or medium Phunnel bowl I would say that you break up your charcoal in to 2 halves and spread them apart. If it’s a large bowl then just use 2 charcoals. (Make sure your break them before they are lit)

Make sure to tell me if it works for you. Edited by hookahlife

Out of all the things you could do to affect your smoke, the amount of holes def. matters the least... As long as you can pull air through it, you're good

Most people like to poke a hole over the phunnel hole because otherwise the foil gets sucked over the hole and you don't get a good draw

I've never had this problem, I like it better without the hole over the phunnel hole, I usually just poke a couple rings, but that example should be fine

I remember when friends and I thought it was the only thing that affected the smoke, we would get a tiny sewing needle and poke like a million holes... ahh what a waste.

Hi nofrendo,

I’m sorry if my earlier explanation was not detailed enough. I did not want to emphasize that the amount of holes has the greatest importance, I just wanted to note that there are many factors which go into heat/smoke control and of those the amount of holes, the type of charcoal and the placement/amount of charcoal seem to make the biggest difference. Buy having a sufficient number of holes and properly applying the charcoal there is a way to create an optimal smoke. Personally, I just poke holes in random patterns around the Phunnel and then 1 small one in the middle. I usually cover about half the Phunnel bowl with coal; depending on the bowl size I use 1 or 2. Also, as with any bowl make sure there is space between the tobacco and the foil so that the tobacco doesn’t burn (you may already know this, but just in case).

Billy, in time you will learn your own personal tricks to heat/smoke management and what I outlined may or may not work for you.

Hope this clarifies everything. Edited by hookahlife

I like poking holes in the foil normally around the phunnel, parallel lines of holes with an oyster fork, not poking holes over the phunnel until I'm done...I then poke 7-9 smallish holes over the phunnel in a:

...x...x
x...x...x
...x...x

Kind of a pattern. Bill and Chase (Chill and Base as they are known by) poke holes around the foil in a circular manner, never poking holes above the phunnel. Tess seems to like to poke a single medium hole above the phunnel. Other people do other things. Find your own voice, develop your own voice! Edited by Sonthert
