Johnny_D
Hi ng731 & Welcome The most important thing you must ensure when using quick-lights is that the coal is fully 'lit' and glowing red before placing it on the bowl. This should ensure that no chemical taste comes through. Some more details would also help :-What brand of quick-light are you using? Are you using foil -or- a metal screen between tobacco & Coal ?How are you packing your bowl and what style of bowl are you using?Cheers,JD

Sounds like it might be a bad brand of Quicklights. 3 kings is the way to go.- misterbeetz
The King
I would say Golden Quicklights are the best, then 3kings
hookaheveryday
What JD said, once the coals have started sparking, give them time to heat up and give them a few blows. Wait until they ash entirely white before smoking. Also, you should use either a stove (Gas or electric) or a blowtorch to light natural coals. Butane lighters work but require a lot more effort.
