SafeSearchOff
lol, Best Buy drug tests their employees? They should divert that money spent on drug tests to proper employee training...EL, congrats on the new job, nicely done.Do me a favor though... PLEASE dont be one of those extremely misinformed Best Buy workers, that when if we (the consumer) ask you a question about the product, or ask what it does, PLEASE dont just look at the box or nice little best buy summary.... that pisses me off so much.Good Luck, bud. BB is lucky to get someone who knows as much as you do about today's general new technology. Too bad you can't start using that employee discount for a bit eh? I hear you can't use it for a month or two, because they get worried people will get a job just to buy a new comp, tv or stereo, get the discount and then quit
Gaara
Congrats....surprised this is your first job though seeing you're going on 20. I use to work @ CC and it was alright. The discount is nothing to get excited for; in fact, it rarely made any difference. The only thing that was useful was the new offers that were limited to employees (like new items coming out at half price; don't confuse that with regular discounts from the store) which we'd buy and sell it online for some profit . You get tired after standing for hours though; especially when you have to work like 14 hrs straight on busy times like Black Friday to only come back to work at 8am in the morning. oggie505#2
Merch are the people who when the truck is unloaded, puts the shit on the shelves. They do the signs, stuff like that. I used to work Inventory and Merch at BBY. They combined LP (Loss Prevention), Merch, and Inventory. So, now I have heard from my friends who still work there, that Merch is not as bad as it used to be, but just wait until christmas..lol

EvansLight
lol yea thats about what the guy who interviewed me for that section was talking about. For me it works out better, as for as much as i try and say im over my phobia of talking to new people, it still acts up on occasion, so working in the back seems like a better start for me And thanks alot everyone!! I promise if i actually get asked anything while out front, ill try and not give stupid answers Edited May 17, 2007 by EvansLight
ShishaFred
Lol a drug test to get a job, nice private life. They don't really analyse your urine I think since drugs tests are pretty costly. They just want to scare some people out of the job.

In the military (or at least the army) they might randomly choose 200 people or so for a drug screening, but really only test 50 of the samples. I've known plenty of people who have been tested not long after doing some kind of drug and nothing ever came of it. Better to be safe than sorry and just stay clean if your job depends on it. Drugs are bad, mmmkay...
xDizzyGuyx
It's not too costly, most good businesses have partnered up with the local occupational health place or another similar clinic. You actually do have to do a preliminary drug screen at alot of places that say you do. I don't see it as in invasion of privacy in the least, they tell you this up front several times before you even do the app in most cases. I know for wal-mart and target... you had to take you drug test that day or maybe the next day depending on what day. Honestly, you don't get randomly screened after that.... unless you hurt yourself, then you go right then and there to get screened and treated. lazria
When I tried for BB (cellular dept) they made me do a drug test. Crazy... I have a gov't clearence and they didn't make me take one... but to work for less than $8 an hour I had to... silly.Congrats! Hope you enjoy the working world - shortly you won't. 3rooker
QUOTE (james @ May 16 2007, 05:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Nice.Best Buy > Circuit CityNo, Circuit City>Best Buy. Merchandising is somewhat fun, but it's A LOT of work. I worked at Circuit City in the Merchandising department during the holiday season. Yuck. I was working 60+ hours a week. I literally worked myself sick. It can be fun when it's not too terribly busy. I don't see why everyone is so surprised at drug testing. I had to for my first job. Then my second, it was required, but they didn't make me. A lot of places are Drug Free Workplaces. Drug testing is standard these days. Anyway, congrats! It will get old fast. But hope you enjoy it while you can!TX
