hookaheveryday
I'm still working on getting my heat managment just right. I use natural olive wood coals (Royal). I usually get pretty good smoke for a short amount of time and trying to figure out why the tobac is burning so fast. IN between puffs I usually purge the chamber before inhaling, which blows smoke out of the purge valve and out of the bowl. My question is: Is it good if smoke is coming out through the tobacco when I purge it? Or is it a yellow flag?
Erica
a little smoke is okay... a LOT of smoke = bowl way too hot.
hookahlife
Hi hookaheveryday,You should purge the chamber every so often during a smoke session to get rid of the stale smoke. However, if your tobacco is burning too quickly, you may be packing it too tight, using dry tobacco or too much coal so make sure your setup is correct. The smoke going through the tobacco occurs occasionally, either you are blowing too hard, your release valve ball is stuck or you have too much water in the vase. Hope this helps. teq
If your shisha is burning quickly, the first thing to check for is the consistency. Old shisha will be dry, but it's also possible that the honey and glycerin are just sitting at the bottom of the container. Sometimes, you can revive older shisha by adding a bit of honey and mixing it thorougly, but it's good practice to mix all shisha before smoking it. This ensures you get the best possible flavor and a clean burn every time. After you've determined that the shisha is fine, here are a few tips that work well for heat management:+ Increase the amount of layers of foil. + Pack the bowl with less shisha. The distance between the heat source and the shisha controls how quickly it is burned and how much is burned at a time.+ Break up the coal into smaller pieces. Not only does this reduce the heat source, but also allows you to position multiple coals around the edges of the bowl, working your way inward to provide a thorough burn. Also, when clearing the vase/stem of stale smoke on a smaller hookah, you should see it coming out of every opening. If you don't, it could indicate a blockage. On larger hookahs, however, only the release valve(s) should be exhausting smoke.
