ng731
Is it ever all right for the foil and coal to come in direct contact with the shisha?I always find some burnt shisha stuck to the bottom of the foil

Johnny_D
This happens a fair bit. IT's more of a problem when you can pull out the entire puck (Burnt/used tobacco) using just the foil!Try and keep the foil tight over the bowl and maybe just pack the tobacco a few mm's lower than normal.JD
cemab4y
I have been on the hookah since 1997. Sometimes, when I am using non-flavored tobacco, I often do not use foil at all. I just pack the tobacco more firmly, and then set the charcoal directly on top of the tobacco. You get a more intense "burn", because you are pulling more air through the charcoal. You also get some "crud", where the tobacco sticks to the charcoal. Try it and see, you may prefer not using the foil each time.
oggie505#2
It depends on how u pack, if u use a normal ammount of shisha per size of bowl, do not let the foil and shisha touch, but if u put a heaping amount of shisha in a bowl, I sometimes do this with nakhla, the foild will def touch but smokes fine

I know those should be smoked with coals directly on it, but I would never recommend smoking regular mo'assel shisha with coals directly on it. I couldnt imagine smoking Layalina or Starbuzz with coals right on it!And the foil thing... some or a little shisha on it is okay. Having the bowl empty when you pull off the foil isnt. teq
While steel bowl screens aren't preferred, due to the lack of suction, you can always place one between the foil and coal. Not only will you not have to worry about the foil being taut, you have the added benefit of being able to move the coal without a big ashy mess. ASUSEAN1
IMO the best way of packing a bowl is to keep a space between the foil and the tobacco. I use three kings so they tend to burn hot and I never have a problem burning a bowl
