Havana Smokers Please Help

I'm so sad .

With my shipment of Starbuzz on the way I purchased 50g of Havana Rasberry. Why can't I smoke this nice?! I had the same problem with Havana Apricot (I actually threw it out once I got to smoking Starbuzz). It just burns. I get one good pull of the the entire session, somewhere toward the middle, with nasty harshness from beginning to end. WTF....I'm using a med funnel with glass mod. A 40mm 3 kings broken in half on opposite edges of the bowl. Double foil. Two rows of slightly larger than toothpick size holes, one row toward the edge, another near the mod, with a third row of like 6 holes between the two.
With Starbuzz, I just throw it in and it smokes great everytime.

Should I just give up on Havana? This is the only good shisha available locally (Nakhla and Afzal are my other options, hookah-hookah is just too chemically for me).

Is there some sort of trick to this. Help me out...

hey, i have been smoking havana raspberry and plum the last few days. I think they smoke great. Smoking in tangiers med phunnel without a mod and it have to rows of circular holes and two ql on it and it smokes great.

sorry you are having issues man. I dont have the havana touching the foil though are you packing it to much?

I'll try again tonight...Ne special reason why you aren't using the mod, or you just dont have one?

I'll try to pack it more loose, but I usually pack very loose and always leave space between the foil nd the shisha. Last night, when i lifted the foil after a torturous 30min of trying to smoke it, to my surprise none of it was stuck on the foil, in fact only about an 1/5 of the shisha was actually charred.

well couple reasons, 1 the shisha isn't real wet, i like to use the mod on real wet shisha, the other is i dont normally use my mod on my tangiers bowl. Mostly on my mn glass phunnel.

I also wanted to see how havana smoked without a mod since i've never smoked havana before. I'll try it with the mod tonight.

I’m sorry to hear all your troubles with Havana. Personally I use Havana and Layalina for the majority of my smoking sessions, and they smoke great almost every time. I usually use either a Mya 20g bowl or a standard Egyptian bowl. I poke a spiral pattern of holes starting from the outside working my way in, using even spacing between each poke. I toss on a 3-kings charcoal to get it started, and like I said it usually pulls right away.

If you are stuck on using the funnel bowl try creating a different pattern of holes or maybe work on the spacing a bit, the pattern you described works well for Tangiers but I'm not sure how well it would work for Havana. Also once you place the coal on top try rotating the coal around to heat the tobacco quicker. I'll try to recreate your setup later today; hopefully everything will work out fine!

Yep, the med funnel is my only bowl and I love it. I tried 3 circular rows of slighly smaller (toothpick size) holes, and barely got any smoke, although no burn. Just tiny amounts of smoke. I feel like everytime i pack it, I'm just going to end up wasting a perfectly good coal .

I'll try it "modless" in a few.

Please let me know how you guys get yours to smoke well in the funnel.

all right i dont have pictures up loaded yet. but heres what i do.

I fill the phunnel without the mod with shisha. I pack it in the bowl, not alot but its not loose either, like a med packing job. it's not really fluffy but it's not mushed in there.

I then leave a tiny space (very tiny) between the shisha and the foil. (the shisha shouldn't touch) theni stretch the tin foil over the bowl (shiny side down) and place two outer rings of holes (i uses the poker that comes with my tongs) then i place on hole in the middle a tiny bit bigger than the holes on the outside, in the hole for the phunnel.

then i light two 40mm goldens, plop on on each side and smoke away.

smokes great for me. Hope this helps. i'll post pics asap
