Our Hookah video

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

My friend and I were bored tonight so we decided to film a little
hookah "instructional video" for fun. It basically shows how to set up
a hookah, get it going, and do a few smoke rings .
It might not be the most accurate representation of how to set up a
hookah, but it's how we do it and it works pretty well. Anyway, let me
know what you think. P.S. My name is Chris(I'm wearing the blue shirt
in the video).

The file is about 130MB big, so if you want you can also open windows
media player, go to File..Open URL, and paste the link in. That way it
will stream the video so you can watch it as it downloads.

Good job making the video. The only thing I question is your mixing
method with wet ma'assel. (shisha is the pipe not the tobacco). With Al
Fakher it can get very very messy. An actual bowl or small tupperware
would be better with that.

thats sweet but I dont understand how full your bowl was.  I'm new to hookahs so bear with me but I thought that you had to leave a fair amount of space between the foil and the massel but your bowl seemed pretty full

Hey whats going on guys, I'm jeff the guy with the hat in the video... Anyway I guess I'll answer this question first,

  "With Al
Fakher it can get very very messy. An actual bowl or small tupperware
would be better with that. "

The toabacco was actually al-waha, and yea the
tupperware is a great idea but we choose to keep the tobacco in the
original tupperware it came in, thats just how al-waha sells it. Anyway
as far as mixing the counter works fine, all you need is a wet rag and
it cleans right up.

"thats sweet but I dont understand how full your bowl was.  I'm new to
hookahs so bear with me but I thought that you had to leave a fair
amount of space between the foil and the massel but your bowl seemed
pretty full"

Thats a good point my buddy did fill that bowl
pretty high up there, but if you look carefully, you'll notice that the
sides are much higher then in the center. You are able to do this
because the coals add weight and press the center of the foil down, but
not actually the sides. We have also noticed that if you do shiny side
down with the foil burning will occur a lot less often and allow you to
add a little more tobacco to the bowl.

Thanks for all the replies so far, I'd like to add real quick that this
is no means saying how you must set up your hookah, its simply how we
do it and what seems to work best for us. Who knows, maybe you'll learn
a little trick or two... We're thinking of making a video showing
people how to do "smoke rings" what do you guys think?

All you guys who have the video Fast forward to 4mins 40 secs.. It's
hilarious, the camera man goes from filming the bowl to filming his ass
and after he rotates and films his ass from 180 degrees he says "THATS
WONDERFUL!"

i have a few question for you guys....
first tho, that video was pretty tight.
1- most people say that al waha doesnt give much flavor, what do you think?
2- when using those finger coals yall used, how do you prevent any ashes from falling into the bowl when moving the coal and removing some of the ashes in the tray?
3- how long does your normal bowl of al waha last?
1- most people say that al waha doesnt give much flavor, what do you think?
I personally really enjoy al-waha. Some of the flavors are better
than others. I really like the fruit flavor that they have. Also where
I get it at a local shop, it only costs 5.99 for 250 grams, which is a
really good deal.
2- when using those finger coals yall used, how do you prevent any
ashes from falling into the bowl when moving the coal and removing some
of the ashes in the tray?
After a while the coals will start creating ash, so we usually just
"ash" the coals. Just take them off the bowl, blow off all ash from
both coals, and then blow the ash off the bowl. It's obviously not
perfect, and sometimes it can cause a bad taste, but normally it smokes
just fine.
3- how long does your normal bowl of al waha last?
We can usually keep it going for about 30mins if 2 of us are smoking.

I use teh same types of coal as they do, i went out and got me one of those baking brushes, teh ones with teh fine brissels. I take teh coal of and just brush of teh ash. A small paint brush will do teh same.
That is why i use small holes, you get less ash in teh bowl that way

just checked out your video.

pretty decent, although I must say you are going a bit over the top with the holes in the foil.

you have the principle right though in terms of using a very thin pin
to make the holes, I personally have always used a pin like the ones
you find in brand new formal shirts.

I start in the center and spiral my way around pushing the pin in as deep as possible, but careful not to make the holes 'big'.

I'm a bit of a skeptic about the ice, it has never done too much for
me. Try some al fakher tobacco, which will get you amazing smoke with
very little effort (esp apple or grape, unbeatable) Especially as
you're using big chunks of natural coal, which usually gives the best
smoke.

good stuff though.

Yea we'll have to try the fakher... We kind of had a back experience
with bananna though. Anyway as far at the wholes that way is a little
over the top i agree but when you're just hanging out who cares, when
we go for a fast set up i usually just do 16 larger holes.

The ice really does cool down the smoke quite a bit. I find it
particularly satisfying, as I do a lot of mixtures with mint, such as
my current fav:  70/30 jasmine/mint.

I liked the video, and found it very similar to my setup routine
(except your holes were punched with a bit more attention to detail ) I am now curious to try some non quick-light coals. They'd start burning just as well using a pan on the stove, correct?

Sorry Craig, don't know what kind of response you're going to get from the video makers, as I haven't seen them frequent these boards much after this thread a couple months back.
