I'm not sure if there is a xbmc for the 360, but yeah I have xbmc on my old xbox and its great. I followed an online guide for a softmodding, which is pretty much similar in all ways to the hardmod (involving a chip/soldering), and its much safer to do.

Only thing, you need a Xbox Action Replay, which is something that allows you to move files from your comp, to your xbox. I guess there are methods in making your own transfer device, but I didn't bother looking into it much.

Also, you'll need some sort of older xbox game, either Mechassault (non greatest hits I believe), or Splinter Cell. Once again there might be other games you can use, but these are the two I knew of.

The softmodding process was pretty painless, but adding a new hardrive was a bit trickier. Not much, but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to these sort of things. I was able to softmod my xbox without a hitch, but I wanted a massive HD to store all my movies, music, pictures and backup all my xbox games to it.

I can't seem to find the guide I used, but it was a long time ago. Just try searching a bit for tutorials on how to softmod your xbox, and you should get some good results.

I never really use my xbox for games anymore, since I got a 360, but its amazing as a media center... I have it hooked up to my network, so I can stream music/movies from my computer to it in the living room, and do all sorts of snazzy thigns. Definitely worth it smile.gif

I also did the softmod, which imo is the only way to go. The hardware mods are just way too sketchy. I got Mechassault, but make sure that it's the original game, and not a re-release. Here's the guide I used, and it was perfect. Softmodding was a breeze.

I didn't replace the hard drive on mine, but instead just stream files from my computer since that's where I download everything anyway. This thing now plays back every file format under the sun, even disc images, which is crazy. Try to find a friend with the Action Replay kit as it's the most expensive part. You might as well buy Mechassualt since it costs the same to rent it at this point (cost me $3.99).
