sultan bowl....

Recommended Posts

As Ive said before, there is a local place carries sultan's, Like i think the one the new guys got picture of in the Intro section. I've noticed that the bowls are VERY shallow..are most of y'all like that as well? I was thinking about it and looking at some of the online sites and its hard to tell the actual depth on many of their bowls.
I know some folks were impressed with the depth on mine but never realized how unusual it seems to be. Makes it easy for me not to burn my ma'asell with that much clearance now that i've realized now little tobacco I actually need to use per session.

Yeah, my stock sultan bowl is really big-looking (wide), but also
pretty shallow.  It's 11/16th inches deep (not even 3/4in).
I'm still pretty new to hookah, and sometimes my ma'asell burnes.
I'll learn though

Wow... I thought Sultan bowls were huge in the depth department!
Compared to the standard Egyptian bowls I use Sultan's products are
pretty gigantic.

I use one of the regular Egyptian bowls that are only about 1/4"
to 1/2" deep and a little over 2" wide (sized to fit steel screen) and
I never have problems with the massell burning. Then again, that could
also have a lot to do with the fact that I use a screen instead of foil

Don't get me wrong though, Sultan bowls are deffinately high quality products that will last you a long time. I just tend to prefer a more shallow and slimmer bowl that uses less massell and gives me just as good of a smoke.

When it comes to bowls, I think that as long as they are well
made products then the shape and size is simply a matter of personal
preference

Really? that shallow?  Hmm, well I guess I really don't know how a
bowl is "supposed" to be, ya know?  I need to get me one of those
screens...

Here's mine. The relativly clean part in the bottom is about all the ma'asell I use for an average 40 minute session. The rest is open air to the foil.

and yes that is a quarter. I may just contact Hookahook.com again and see if they have more like it for sale.
I'm loooking foreward to trying the screen I ordered from hookahcompany.com along with the hardcase and AF escerandari apple.

the depth of your bowl is about 4-5 times the depth of mine.  I use VERY little ma'assel due to the depth of my bowl, but I have still been able to get good smokes out of it....
hey mush, PM me when ya get this - any word on when the BNN stuff is expected to get to you? I really wish I had remembered to tell you to throw in a screen as well, oh well!  I may get one if I decide to order a bag of nour coal as well from southsmoke, I may throw in a screen too....

  • 3 weeks later...
I found a local place that has these bowls for $4.99. (for depth see above. Yes thats a quarter)
They are syrian style (bowl fits INTO the top of the stem) and they have them in blue and tan/brown. And they LOOK very nice.
Any of you folks with shallow bowls want to try something deeper? You don't have to use more Ma'asell, but its harder to burn your bowl with the extra air space between your coals and your stuff.

Let me know. Will ship em USPS  for cost plus actual shipping.

hey Mush I may definitely be inteerested...looking at it now I think your bowl might be more like 8-10 times deeper than the Sultan bowl I use!  I still have been able to get great smokes out of it, just hard to keep enough space between the foil and the ma'assel...
HOpefully this weekend I can buy a screen at a store on Friday and test it out next week....
Question for those who use the SUltan stock bowls (mine is brown with a sort of white painted on edge around the top of the bowl to give you an idea), what size screen do I need for this bowl?  Do I need to bring the bowl with me or is just sort of one size fits all?
also mush, the ONLY ma'assel you put in in that huge bowl is just that little tiny circle at the bottom of your bowl??

Wyte,
Yup, the cleaner part in the middle is about all I use, sometimes even less. I believe screens are 1 size fits most and your standard screen just fits beautifully into these. I thought your hookahs used egyptian OVER the stem top type bowls?

alen I am confused, what's your last post mean?
Mush, you're right - I'm an idiot...I couldn't use that bowl then.  oh well, I'll just have to dream of really deep ma'assel bowls :)
I am excited to try and get a screen and a good washable hose at a decent price.
Even the $5 hookahook hose is another $12 for shipping...may also buy some 3kings rolls at the store since $2.50 a roll is a bit much but is much less than paying for online shipping probably.

this is my bowl which i use for my mya hookah.  best size imo. I'd perhaps fill it a bit more.

at some stage over the next week or so, I'll do a pictorial guide to
how I make my shisha, everybody who trys my shisha tells me it's the
best they've tried, so I must be doing something right (btw this
comment is not at you, but in general memo to myself ;) , just wanted
to comment that the bowl is the best I use).
