hey ZJZ or anyone else who uses a screen instead of foil - how many uses do you get out of 1 screen?  Just wondering...

i sometimes use a screen with my smaller bowl, it doesnt fit too well on my larger one.  You can get many uses out of 1 screen they dont go bad unless somehow you break them.

i have tried screens but i just cant get teh tempreture control i get with foil.....but thats me

Hmm.. I think its pretty much unlimited. I've been using the same
screen almost every day for over a year and it still works just fine.
All you really have to do is take your tongs and scrape off all the
residue and and crusty massell from the bottom of the screen every time
after you finish smoking a bowl.

 So yeah... one screen should last at least a few years or more!

Oh wow!  If I order the bag of nour coal and a 50g of af grape from southsmoke, I'll throw in a screen....although didn't you tell me it won't fit on the sultan bowls?

if your bowl is larger than it wont fit too well. they are pretty cheap so just try it, mine came with my hookah.

I would use foils at all costs. The screen holes seem to be too big, and will cause too much burning and too much air flow.

  I really dont know about that King Mo. I smoke with a screen
every day and I never have any problems with burning. Foil is the stuff
I really had trouble regulating the heat with and often ended up with
burnt massell. But when it comes to the screen, well, I just never have
the burning problem.

 Although I'm sure the screen does promote more airflow, but the
smoke is almost always extremely thick and satisfying. The kind of
smoke thats so thick it almost makes you cough

 
  So maybe this varies from person to person, but in my experiance
I have never encountered either of the two problems you speak of.

After all this talk of Screens, i dug out mine and i am giving it a try. Its okay but i am finding i have to give it more heat. One trick i use is i dont bend any of teh tabs and i use them to balance my coals (Half on/half off teh bowl), this gives better flexability in temperture control.
I guess i am accustomed to using foil.

Still going with teh screen on teh same smoke......the good thing is i can easily clean teh ash off teh screen...

C'mon guys, why you do this to me? Now I have to dig mine out and give it another try. But I never thought of using the windscreen for more heat. Way to go Piper!

with foil, as long as you have experience in making the shishas and
sustaining a good smoke, you should have no problems with burning.
You're an experienced smoker so I don't see the problem, unless there
is a fundamental point I'm missing. Many of my friends are experienced
smokers, but they are unable to make a shisha that tastes as good as
the ones I make.

The thing which bugged me was how you found nakhla smoke to be thicker
than al fakher smoke. Having had both, via my own hands, and in cafes,
there is no doubt that fakher is far thicker. So perhaps it is the
screens fault??

not sure, as I don't use them, but am only making a logical assumption,
as when the holes in the foil are too big, then too much air and
potential burning occurs.

Well, I got my screen and my Af Escarand...whatever.. Apple.
The screen works like a charm. I guess that fact I always use a foil wrap to create a chimney/windscreen (like pipers windscreen) may have helped keep the heat up, but I don't see myself returning to foil again. There was no sagging foil to touch the ma'asell, I could move the coals around without  pushing the foil down, and the screen I got from Hookahcompany.com seems to have just the right size and number of holes. The fact that I have a deep bowl may also have kept the Ma'asell from burning by keeping it a good distance form the screen and coals.
As for the AF Apple...daaaaaamn.

holy crud, hookah-shisha has screens for $3.95 a piece!! geeeeeez, that seems way expensive....but if I place an online order I want it to be at one place, not a ton of other places...I wonder if I may have to bite the bullet on this one...

your best bet might bee hookah shisha for one stop shopping. The other
place i would say is socail smoke. both are reputable companies and
have good c/s.

yeah i have had great experience with social smoke..except they don't sell nour and they don't have the AF selection I'll want...i would use hookah shisha for the nour and if I enjoy them enough, a 50g of romman straw, peach or lemon....
