SMOKE~N~BUBBLZ
Has any one ever made a bowl from an apple? If not its a must try...its a bit of work but it works great. Get an apple and cut teh bootom of so teh apple sits flat. Core out teh top of teh apple, making it as wide and deep as you want. Press teh apple down onto teh shaft of your hookah where you usually put teh bowl then take it off. Now you can see where it sits you make a few (3 or 4) holes for teh air flow. Fill it with teh tobacco and procede like you normally do. The reason its so good is that you get a nice apple flavor and also it keeps teh tobacco moist so you dont get a harsh burnt taste. you will probally need a few extra peices of coal. It takes some practise and you really can onltus eteh apple once or twice if it is right away but it is a great smoke. Just something to try if you are bored. mushrat
I've heard of that trick. In college we used apples and carrots for pipes, but that's a different story. It'll be a bit harder with my Syrian style, but not much. I may give it a shot...will post pics.
Yashman
We've tried it with an orange. I think it would be easier with an orange than an apple because an orange seems a lot easier to cut and hallow out than an apple. It works, but not really worth the time it took for preparation, or the sticky mess it was to clean up. But heres a picture:

King Mo
In lebanon, they make the bases out of melon/watermelons hollowed out. Quite fantastic I must say sometimes even a pineapple.
wyteboy
there is a place in San Diego called Sinbad's. For like $3-5 extra with the hookah, they'll put a holed out fruit on your hookah. I've smoked strawberry through an orange, a watermelon and smoked orange through a pineapple. Bliss I tell ya!
afrdzak
yeah my friend and I used an apple for a bowl because she didnt have one. It worked alright although I think we could have done a beter job of making a bowl out of it.

Cal
Hi Smoke n Bubblez, could you please explain the process in a little more detail. How does the tobacco not fall through the bottom? Is it because the stem of the hookah rises up through the bottom of the apple and then the tobacco is placed around the stem? Thanks
Brad
Soke n Bubblez posted this about 6 months ago ...not sure if he is around anymore to answer. When I made my apple bowl (only done it once), I carved a bowl out of the top and stuck a fork through the bottom a few times so the air could flow through to the stem. Then I made a smaller hole on the bottom to put on the stem. Not sure if anyone has a better way to do it - but it worked great for me.The only bad thing with fruit bowls is the time they take to set up... probably why I've only done it once. Oranges make it pretty easy because they're a lot softer, easier to carve, but the juices make it pretty messy. But to make a fruit bowl out of anything, Brad's method is probably the best. Just carve a bowl on top and a small hole on the bottom.

slayman1
Hi guys,I've done many bowls of apple fruit. The best way to prevent the tobacco from falling through the bottom of the head is to core out the apple properly.First cut a round hole underneath the apple with a small pointy knife.Thenslice the top off the apple until its perfectly horizontal. You then cut around the inside of the apple making a round circle in the flesh about half a cm from th skin. Then using that as a refernece you can then core the apple till you can see through the apple through the bottom hole. You then get a square piece of foil and fold it over about four times till its pretty thick then make sure that its like the shape of a triangle. Then using a hole puncher ,punch in three holes in the foil, then place the foil in the bottom of the apple making sure that you totally cover the hole at the bottom of the apple. Then start placing your tobacco inside and cover with 2 layers of foil when finished. For the bottom part,I normally use the bottom end of a bowl that I broke off and modified to stick it into the apple and making sure it has sharp edges sitting at the top of it so the apple digs into the sharp parts.then place it into the pipe as normal.Voila!!! jmexx
I made a pear bowl, it was quite awesome. It's cool for parties, if you just prepare a couple of bowls and let the tobacco sit in the bowl for about half hour or so. I never liked double apple so it would be pointless to use an Apple. Plus the pear is a much more subtle tobacco :)Jon

pavlakos_politakos
i made an apple bowl just the other day.i carved it out with a spoon which has teeth on the edges. i also have this little poker like device.its just a thick point on a yellow handle and i poked the hole on the boottom perfectly.green apples taste much better in my opinion and you can pack a sh*t load of moassel in it.i like to use nakhla dapple because for some reason the apple bowl cuts down on the anise flavor alot and just leaves a delicious apple flavor.i usually dont really like nakhla dapple but this was too good!!!i also put ice in the bowl for a cooler smoke.try it sometime!!!
