Speeder
Hey, I'm currently looking to purchase a new hookah. So far, I had 2 hookahs, first was a cheap turkish one that rusted. Second one is a very tall hookah from a local arabic shop here in Philly, it's fine, but I'm pretty sure it's not stainless steel (the guy guaranteed to me that it was), it can easily tip over, and i hate the rubber grommets that it has. What i'm looking for in a hookah: Solid, stainless steel construction. As many hoses as possible. i usually smoke with friends in groups of 4 or more, so lots of hoses would be great. Rotators seem interesting too. Solid, heavy base, so it's not easy to tip over. NO rubber anything! I hate rubber gaskets that you have to force in. Easy to clean, low maintenance. and of course, good and long smoking experience. I want the hookah to last and look nice too. Price range should be under $200 shipped. Also, I got some golden charcoals from southsmoke, and while they suit me fine, my "cool" friends who like to spend $30/pop to smoke hookah at lounges always say how great the tobacco or how great the coals were (easy to light, long lasting). From reading this forum, it seems that wood charcoals are the best, but not easy to light? Also, it seems that al fakher is the preferred tobacco brand here. What's are some good flavors? (I don't like apple, or melon; Liked Nakhla mixed fruit)
Bane
I don't think you'll find a hookah anywhere that's COMPLETELY without rubber grommets...There's none that I know of anyway. There are some that have a screw-in stem, though. As to the actual kind of hookah, my friend has a 3-hose rotator that's Really good for when multiple people are smoking. Can someone help him out as to where the best deals are? I've not looked in a while, and don't have the time just now. Anyway, that's my 2 cents
MR Bubble
Hey Speeder, I'm not too aware of what's out there in rotators or has the least grommets in the system, so I'm not going to be a wealth of information. Sorry. But I'm responding to your post because you said that you actually liked Nakhla's mixed fruit. You are the first person to say this. I had it 4 years ago and have a fear of it. If your like for this is true, please review it for us hear. It seems that maybe they have improved on it since then and I am very curious as to your detailed description of it. But to answer your question about the preferred tobacco here, I think you already answered your own question. Other than that, all I can suggest is to just experiment. Every brand/flavor combo has its followers and its haters. NO EXCEPTION. But since you prefer something along the lines of mixed fruit, may I suggest AL Waha 5 star mix? It has gotten some good reviews here, but is a mild buzz generator. Good luck and look forward to your reviews. MR Bubble
Speeder
very weird, i posted a message and it did not go through. anyway, in regards to hookah, what's my best option for most hoses, least amount of rubber, rotator preferably, and very stable/solid construction from stainless steel? about tobacco, out of the brand i've smoked and know what they were, i had "el nakhla" in green box, melon flavor (which is nasty) and just "nakhla" mixed fruit, which while doesn't give you any buzz, is relatively flavorful IMHO. right now, i have al amir cherry and lemon, and al fakher coconut and mixed fruit in my southsmoke cart, how's my choices? and.. should i get another box of golden charcoals or something else? Mathazar
Stay with the Golden Coals, that's ALL I use and they're GREAT!!! But, if you're looking for a good wooden coal, try-out Nour. They're the creme of the crop, as far as wooden coals are concerned. You can pick up some Nour Coals at: www.HookahCompany.com And while you're there, look under Syrian Hookahs and you'll find a beautiful 29" 6-hose rotator for $199. Sorry man, I can't get ya under $200 plus shipping for a multi-hose rotator. And the stem looks like stainless steel, but I can't be certain by just looking at the picture because besides silver they also have the stem in gold. This hookah was marked down from $259. So it would seem that you're getting a good deal. This website is great and I'm sure the Customer Service will meet your satisfaction, as I've done business with them before, and they'll go out of their way to please the customer. As far as the accessories you mentioned, they have everything you requested, including a variety of bowls. They have one bowl that will hold between 200 - 250 grams of tobacco. I suggest for your purposes, since you want to entertain that you get a fairly large bowl. Metal bowls are nice because the heat gets more evenly distributed than with a clay bowl. The metal bowls tend to get VERY hot, so you really don't need more than one coal, or in the case of Nour Wooden Coals, you'll just need a small amount. You'll have to experiment with metal bowls, because one time I used 3 coals with a metal bowl and within a minute I had melted the bowl grommet. And HookahCompany has a wide variety of tobacco. Although, if you're looking for some GREAT tobacco, try these sites: www.Hookah-Shisha.com (Romman Double Apple has no Apple flavor, it's more of an Ouzo or Black Licorice flavor......One of my favorites. Here's a few more: Romman Lemon, Peach, and Strawberrry) www.HookahHookah.com (The flavors I reccommend since you don't like Apple are: Melon, Pineapple, Margarita, and Grape. The Grape is very subtle in flavor, but it's the closest thing to Black Grape that I've tasted) www.SocialSmoke.com (Has all the Al-Fakher and Golden Seal flavors at a considerable discount, and they have Sample packs which is nice if you're just trying these flavors out for the first time) Goodluck
Mathazar
Actually, I can get you under $200 plus shipping on a multi-hose rotator hookah: www.SocialSmoke.com Click on Hookah Collections at the top of the page, and then click on the HookahBros Hookah in the middle of the page. The Typhoon is my favorite because it's nice and shiny, but The Cyclone is also very nice. The blue hoses are VERY COOL

mushrat
I have a Raven from hookahook.com. Very nice, solid hookah with autoseal and washable hoses. Good customer service too, even after the sale.
Mathazar
You may want to call www.TheHookah.com and ask them if they're Scorpio multi-hose rotator comes with Auto-Seal. I saw this same hookah over at www.SouthSmoke.com, but they were out of stock on it. It comes in both 4 & 6 hose and is 38" - $174.95 for the 4-hose with accessories. www.TheHookah.com/products/details.asp?ID=173 This is a VERY slick-looking hookah, and if it has Auto-Seal, I may just buy it for myself

Speeder
Weird, on southsmoke, the scorpio has the autoseals, but on thehookah.com i asked and got this response "The Scorpio model uses rubber stoppers and does not have the auto-sealsystem nor does it have any screw in parts." mushrat
With the problems being had by another member with stripped acrylic threads on the base, you may want to find out if the base and stem meet metal to metal or metal to plastic. Reliable company to deal with though. $.
hookaman
well our other member said all other acrylics have metal to metal, he said only the taqseem stargate has taht plastic
Mathazar
You can get a real nice MYA SARAY acrylic 29" hookah for $70, just $1 more than your 24" hookah, and they look identical. Go to: www.MYASARAY.com, click on Shopping at the top of the page, and then click on the plus sign next to Hookah, and then click on Acrylic. It looks like a much better hookah than the one you linked us to. Though, it doesn't come with accessories, but who cares. You're getting an AWESOME hookah designed by MYA SARAY, their supposed to be VERY high quality....not those cheap chinese-made ones, and it'll probably last you a lifetime
hookaman
sounds good, please if anyone has or has ever used this hookah, please tell me about it. Is it a good hookah, does it hit good, last long, etc... Thank You all!!
Mathazar
I suggest calling the company and let them tell you about their acrylic hookahs. They're supposed to be personally designed by MYA SARAY, and built to last. They were pretty convincing last time they posted in this forum, regarding their acrylic hookahs. Give them a call, it might be enlightening
wyteboy
what is autoseal and how does it work? how do you know if your hookah has autoseal or not? taking a break already has me feeling better Math, your pkg should get delivered some time while I'm at work tomorrow. Meaning I'll pick it up Friday. I have family in town from sat-tues I think, so Wed. it is gonna be back to it! I'll haveyour 3 romman flavors and 3 flavoes coming from mushrat that I had him throw in his order from BNN. The gf comes to visit again Sunday so i'll have to try all 6 flavors by then, shouldn't be a problem After that, I'll be ALL DONE flavor testing thanks to everyone here! I have tried to trade or give back when I have the opportunity as well. I will only be able to smoke outside (i prefer it anyway), once I move at the end of the summer and here in CT, it greatly limits when you can smoke outside due to weather so it probably doesn't make any sense to me to keep more than 3-4 flavors on hand at any one time due to smoking hem while fresh and good...I have NO clue what I am gonna pick...what with Fumari Watermelon, White Peach and AF grape, cherry, melon....that's alread5 and I have YET to try romman peach, strawberry, lemon and AF straw, GS AF straw and esk apple....YIKES!!!!!!! speeder, if you haven't ordered yet, I HIGHLY recommend getting some of the af grape, cherry and melon ('cantaloupe') - they are AMAZING smokes. cypress, zjz, king mo, math or myself or others on this site have reviewd them before if you just read back a bit! good luck and let us know what you decide! Mathazar
wyteboy.......Auto-Seal is for multi-hose hookahs. In each hose stem there's a little metal ball that controls airflow, so that everybody gets an equally good hit. It's so that when someone takes a hit, everyone else doesn't have to put their thumbs over their mouthpieces in order for that one person to get a hit. In other words, Auto-Seal keeps the hookah airtight so that people don't have to put their thumbs over the mouthpieces when someone else is taking a hit. Go to Hookah-Shisha.com and click on Syrian Hookahs to get a further explanation. I know I didn't explain it very well, perhaps someone else could go into more detail
mushrat
Well, its like the air valve with the ball bearing Wyte was asking about previously i believe. When people are pulling air from inside the hookah, the bearing plugs the hole so no air comes in from outside. When there is a hose attached, the bearing plugs the hole unless someone is sucking the bearing out of the hole by drawing on the hose. In systems with no auto-seal, when someone draws on their hose, air will be drawn in through the other hoses and not the bowl unless you put your thumb over the end of the extra hoses. Hmm..that may not have been any better..but its additional information...
