Back To Basics

Recommended Posts

I am throwing out all the exotic "flavors" and getting back to basics!

I noticed that the fruity flavors and the chocolates and coffees all began to become nauseating to me. The other night I went out to the little Lebanese restaurant where we smoked a good old fashioned bowl of double apple and I was hooked again! We went out back to the prep area and I saw the palm tree on the simple package and that's when it hit me, why experiment? "Millions of Arabs can't be wrong!", says my friend.

When I woke up with that sweet hint of licorice in my nostrils I went to place my order.

So now I wait with my hookahs soaking in lemon juice and hot water in order to get that pungent nasty smell of experimentation out as my order of Nakhla Dbl. Apple and some finger coals show up. I can not wait! And I promise if i don't have the time to dedicate to lighting finger or natural coals for a session by myself or with friends, I will not smoke. Quick lights are nasty, I don't care which ones you buy!

Variety should be for extra marital affairs and dining choices!

I often do this myself.

Get back to basic's. And it's normally allways a traditional bowl filled with nahkla Double apple -or- cherry.

Either way it's nice to get back to basics.

Excellent post and a topic close to my heart biggrin.gif

I too go back to basics quite often.
I dont know why it is, but most of the "exotic" flavors, really dont taste very good to me.
Im not a fan of double apple however, as i hate the taste of licorice.

But the flavors i keep and enjoy the most are Strawberry, Peach, Orange, Grape, and Rose.
maybe not the most basic, but compared to "margarita" and "chocolate butterscotch" its far simpler.

It is interesting, how this happens.

And if you analyze your "back to basics" choice, regardless of what flavor you chose, I can almost guarantee you that that choice evokes not just a flavor you like but the entire experience of the first time you smoked and tasted it gets triggered.

Our brains are like that, especially with pleasurable sensations. A smell doesn't have to be nice either to bring fond memories. If I catch a whiff of 2-stroke exhaust, offensive to most, and close my eyes, i am transported to the beach in italy when I was 8 years old and could smell the Vespas zooming by. Instant mental gratification.

That particular Nakhla Double Apple, even in my nostrils, hours later, takes me to a -place where good times are shared with good people. This is narghile after all isn't it? Enjoy your basics.

I never got that feeling when I smoked cigarettes years ago.

Thats how strawberry is for me.
For some reason, i have never had a bad session with any strawberry flavor. Its always been the best people, the best nights, and the best smoke.

A little bit of psychology here! I agree though. Basic flavors (Lemon, Orange, Cherry, Mint) all bring back good times to me and relax me the most. Very interesting thread.

I must say though, I do love some of the more complex flavors. But overall, you can never go wrong with going "back to the basics". laugh.gif Happy Smoking all!

Now wait a second... Why are quick lights so nasty?
I've never tried natural coals... I might eventually but as of yet in my hookah smoking I haven't been disgusted by the quick lights that I've used(golden coals).

Thats been the standard for my friends who use quick lights. If you have any natural coals, try having a session with them, and pop on a quicklight afterwards (like, for a replacement coal). You'll taste the difference in an instant.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, heaven,

My order came in! bless the guys at Hookah -Shisha.com.

Now, regarding the quick lights, every has them , I am sure they are the "in-a-pinch" wonders. The next time you have some naturals or pressed coals in your coal holder, fire up a quick light and let it ash over. Now pick up a piece of the naturals and wave it under your nose, compare that to the QL and let me know if you still can't smell the accelerate. I may be sensitive but if I can smell it I can sure taste it.

I have never burnt tobacco with naturals, QL's are notorious for me and acrid smoke. Chock it up to operator error, but all I care about is having my Dbl Apple and sitting outside right now!

Everyone enjoy what you got and get what you enjoy!
