Heavy Metals In Herbal Shisha?

Recommended Posts

I've had a few near death experiences, and was told if I didn't stop smoking hookah, I will die. The complications have to do with the heavy metals in tobacco. So to ween off, I was wondering if anyone knew the levels in herbal shisha. It's too early to tell if there's a nicotine addiction involved, and I'm assuming not. Could be wishful thinking, but either way, it's definitely habitual. Any input would be appreciated. The chemicals in coal aren't a concern, so weening is acceptable, as told by the doctor. The only concern is the level of heavy metals.

How much shisha have you been smoking if you've had not one, but several, near-death experiences? I'm curious... where are these heavy metals coming from, the tobacco or the coals?

varies a lot, but usually in excess of 3, and no more than 6 a day, with the occasional 7-8. heavy metals are part of all tobacco, but supposedly may possibly be higher in shisha, according to one test. of course not much testing has been done conclusively or anything.

Hookah smoke contains significantly high levels of arsenic, lead and nickel

That is a lot. Could you cut back to once a day, or even once every couple of days? As for replacing conventional shisha with an herbal blend, remember: smoke is smoke and none if it is going to be really good for you.

What do you mean near-death experiences?
What side effects are you having from inhaling those "heavy metals"?

ceased functionality of sweat glands. high toxin levels in sweat, including nickel (acquired allergies). heat exhaustion (3 times), risk for melanoma (currently CIS)

Time to start living a better life bro.

3 sessions a week is what needs to occur. 5 sessions a day is a bit much.

I would suggest drinking alot of water, cut most sodas/beer. Eat healthy food, cut the junk to a minimum. Get out and exercise for that 4+ hours you just saved by not smoking during those times.

that's WAY too much smoking in a day, if your were a ciggy smoker I'd say you'd be doing 5 packs a day! Most defiantly time to cut back - as to the "heavy metal" poisoning, I don't know how much it came from shisha or the metal in your hookah - depending on what it's made of, that much HARD use may be causing it, rather than the shisha. Also, your coal choice may be an issue as well - using cheap quick-lits that often (and possibly not waiting to cook them to remove the starter chemicals) could be causing major bad stuff as well.

Trouble is, even if you switch to "herbal" shisha, if you still smoke THAT many times a day, I'd think you'd still have some serious health issues. I try my damnest not to do it more than twice in 24 hours, or more than 5 days a week. Time to find a new hobby, dude. You might have an addiction to smoking in general rather than the tobacco or nicotine itself. Edited by lazria

it's hard to believe the fact that '91% of weekly hookah smoker says it's hard to quit'. If you want to quit smoking you can quit it. it takes your will power and you have to discipline yourself. Zoddi take a break from smoking man. 7-8 sessions a day is way too much of hookah smoking. Try once a month or once a week. About the heavy metal stuff i like to know about it. It's seem like one of those anti-tobacco thingy that i usually read about. Anyway i hope you cut down on the smoking and try drinking water to cleanse your body. Peace dude have a nice day

man, how did you even find the time to smoke that many bowls per day? That's like 7 hours just sitting around doing nothing but smoking.
You've got to find yourself some new and interesting hobbies. Stop thinking about hookah all day.

My work has me in front of the computer all day, so it goes hand in hand. Sessions really only last about 20 minutes each. Plus, now that I've got what I got, all forms of exercise are out of the question. All I can do is sit, lie down, and walk real slow. Pretty much hookah made sure it'd be all I'd do. Even mild forms of exercise will likely land me in the hospital. Going outdoors is a chore, so even hospital visits are quite intolerable.

I agree. You have been smoking WAY too much. I've never heard of anyone who smoked that much before. How do you even find the time? Anywho, I agree with Scheetz. Time to start exercizing and living a healthier life. Sucks man. Hope you get better.

Exercise is out of the question. The doctor says it may be possible for me to exert any energy again in as little as 1-3 months, but it's possible it might be permanent.

I'll say the same thing over again bro.

The water will help you flush your system. For now, how about playing some Wii? LOL, using the stick will keep your arm and what not moving and it will still give you a bit of exercise as you can work up a sweat with some of those games.

I fill up a gallon jug twice a day. Although admittedly not all of it goes to drinking, since a good chunk is to keep me cool. Wii? I can't even screw 2 screws in without getting into trouble. I was suggested to eat 3 grapefruits and apples a day, which I'm doing along with a better overall diet as well.

Well, at least you are taking this seriously and doing what needs to be done. I would assume then that your body before smoking hookah had issues of breaking down metal toxins in your system? With the hookah and other foods added in it just made it more difficult. No way could 4-5 hookah sessions a day increase your metal toxin intake to levels that are that harmful.

Hmmm, could the hose also be an issue. As if your hose is become rusted inside you would be inhaling those particles which would stack ontop of the issue at hand. You may want to check into cutting your hose(s) open and see if they are rusted out. They should only really rust if you wash them out and they are not leather washables or if you pull water into the hose from deep strong inhales.

I have to agree with Scheetz again. But once you can start more heavy physical start running. Running will help you rid your "smoker's lungs".

I had zero issues with metal toxins before, and the allergy was recently acquired. Also, I use a plastic hose after my first hose rusted.

Either way. Time to give up hookah. It's just like me with drinking. I was plastered all day. For 9 months. I just had to give it up. So now, I smoke lol.

As a former 7-8 bowls a day smoker (sometimes more like 12), I can say from experience its pretty detrimental, I got to where i couldnt function if i had gone more than a couple hours without hookah, heck I even had to have bowl as I was trying to fall asleep, otherwise I'd just lie awake and think about hookah. It got to the point where i couldnt walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded and thats when i knew it was time for a change. Unfortunately I'm still a daily smoker, but its down to only 2 bowls a day, sometime 3 or 4 on weekends when I'm partying. I dont care how fit you are, smoking that much will kill you (both figuratively and literally). The herbal thing really isnt an option either, theres still insane amounts of tar to coat your lungs, and still the ultra high CO, also, quite frankly, most of that shit is just that SHIT, and you'll soon find yourself yearning for the real thing, best to go cold turkey in your case, or if you find that the nicotine really is pulling at you, go for a cigarette or cigar once or twice day to ween you off, at least it wont kill you immediately, ya know.
