Anyone watching anything good? Anything cool coming out?

I'll admit it, I am a fan of the ecchi series... It doesn't get much better that ai yori aoshi, Mahoromatic, and (gasp) Love Hina. Go ahead and make fun of me now Is anyone else a fan?? Know anything like these that is new??

Currently I am watching naruto (right now in fact) and Bleach... and I just finished the Gunslinger Girl series (so no, its not all bouncy chested harem fluff for me hehe)

Yeah, watching Bleach and Naruto to however they are great series I find FMA(Full Metal Alchemist)/ Blood+/ Fatestay night to have more of a deeper story line.

I so used to be a HUGE fan, still watch some things - Trigun reruns and such not. I don't have the time or money anymore to invest like I once did. I ended up selling 7/8ths of my collection to pay for moving about 2 years ago. Between Ebay and a local store I made over 2k... I still have several items (figures and stat, some books and dvd's) but mainly boxed up because they were Out of Box and nobody bought them. They only thing you'd see sitting out are some of my $$ Gundam models and the whole FF8 figure line on a shelf in 1 room. I miss my stuff... *sniffle*

Anyone who is on the east coast and is into anime should probably check out Otakon: http://www.otakon.com/default2.asp.

It runs from July 20 through July 22 in Baltimore, MD. I'll be there, shooting stuff for an ongoing documentary on fan conventions. I'd love to meet other folks from the forum, and if you want, I can put you in the doc. Just look for the guy with the camera. I'll have my Bambino with me, so we could always fire up a bowl...

Elfen Lied is an amazing series

Thanks Flying I'll check it out... and definitely some are good most not so much, but that's not all that surprising look at American TV :-) I was just looking at.

Other series worth checking out include Full Metal Panic, I also (finally) picked up GTO, fantastic (if a bit old) series.

Definitely Elfen Lied... If you don't mind something that has become more of a classic, Akira (that's a movie, and its probably best to watch it through more than once) If you're down with mecha I like Full metal Panic, its got some naruto like fluff, but the storyline is good overall. If you like the stuff where the ending makes you go... wow... I have a few at home (I can't remember the titles off hand) I'll post more when I get a chance

Akira was alright I guess, although all the new age tech doesn't seem to interest me as much as the old style ninja stuff although my interest in FMA as proved that wrong.

I love Cowboy Bebop. I love the realistic depiction of firearms and real world products they use in it. The rest of it isn't very realistic, but it has an excellent story.

Ever watch the other best Anime story ever? The original Records of the Lodoss War.

Record is another classic... but not very realistic. Of course the reason most of us like that series is because they ad D&D geeks lol

Midori no Hibi was good by the way, kinda dissappointing ending though, I am not going to give my ecchi dissappointment with that series either... lol

A few more titles worth checking out:

Samurai 7 - I can't believe I forgot this one, if you like this watch the original story, Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, or the American rip off, the Magnificent Seven all three are definitely worth a peek

Chobits - Decent storyline, good characters. Manga was better though (the story's ending made more sense)

Azu Manga Daioh - Its not about anything, and you'll love it... unless you have no soul. Funny funny stuff about a group of high school girls basically going to highschool... no ecchi or hentai though

Ai Yori Aoshi - Another harem series (what can I say) Its good though and a far better storyline than love Hina

Fruits Basket - I know its for girls, kiss my butt, my wife loves it, I thought it was interesting the first time through. Its worth a watch, pretty touchyfeely without being perverted... shrug

I was just up in Toronto at Anime North over the memorial day weekend. I've been to fan conventions before, but this one blew me away. I didn't realize cosplay was so huge in the anime world. I would say that at least 30 - 50% of the people there were in costume. BTW, they were probably some of the nicest people I've met at any of the fan cons I've been to.

I just read the piece and I'll admit, my first reaction to anime cosplay was not unlike the the girl students in the article (I probably didn't giggle like a japanese schoolgirl, at least I hope I didn't). Lol I was referring to cosplay not anime in general (both have popularity over there) but for some reson some of us americans think anime is what japan is like. (the next fanboy I hear say dattebayo at the end of a sentence if going to get laid out). As far as them having the bigest anime convention in the world, its hardly surpising since they invented, and are pretty much the only ones who produce anime or anything really similar to it... :-D

I would say that at least 30 - 50% of the people there were in costume. BTW, they were probably some of the nicest people I've met at any of the fan cons I've been to.

I admit, I'm not a strong anime fangirl, I'm MUCH more of a gamer girl. Generally, those are accepted too at the cons I've gone to. There's still so much to do, and yes! the people are so ridiculously friendly... but don't push anything on Sunday of any con, the majority's wandering around in a sleep-deprived, hungry stupor and are less likely to take 14 year olds running around yelling their friends' names with '-chan' attached to the end. But if you're that type of person, you can stand there out of traffic, look around at the milling crowds, cosplayers, and IRT, and say truthfully "These are my brethren!"



BTW... We saw somebody cosplaying Sailor Bubba, who was also in attendance at ACen. How sweet is that? XD I love these people so much

I started out the same way though I found Ranma 1/2, the original Wicked City, and Akira through a gaming group I was part of and since then really haven't turned back, the more of it I watch the more I like it. I used to work for a video store and get into arguments with people who didn't wanna "watch dem cartoonz"

Video game RPGs, mainly the FF series (love 8! Think I'm going to give it like the 6th playthrough soon). The table-top RPGs... is a line I just cannot cross, although my friends seem to love it.

Yes, around these parts we call it "Con Funk." In fact, ACen's motto is "Got Soap?" and the dance thing they have on Saturday night is called the "Soap Bubble." Hooray for bluntness!

You have to wonder at the sheer amount of fat Lulus wandering around with their stuffed moogles/cactuars. I guess they're like "Oh, I've got the boobs, let's do this!" but completely forget the fact that Lulu's actually skinny with what appears to be a ridiculous augmentation and the graces of Yevon (or industrial-strength double sided tape) following her everywhere she goes. I personally am trying a Quistis cosplay, and it's not going well. My wig crafting supplies got lost in the mail, the skirt is a size 16 pattern and although I'm normally a size 8-9 it's too small, the vest thing she's got has a million vertical seams in it and NO PATTERN looks like it at all, and I'm too lazy to finish my Sculpey and silver/gold leaf Slaying Tail (one of her whips). It'll be a miracle if I ever get this thing done, damn my perfectionism T_T

These last couple of pictures have completely killed the whole Sailor Moon mystique for me.
