Video game RPGs, mainly the FF series (love 8! Think I'm going to give it like the 6th playthrough soon). The table-top RPGs... is a line I just cannot cross, although my friends seem to love it.

Yes, around these parts we call it "Con Funk." In fact, ACen's motto is "Got Soap?" and the dance thing they have on Saturday night is called the "Soap Bubble." Hooray for bluntness!

You have to wonder at the sheer amount of fat Lulus wandering around with their stuffed moogles/cactuars. I guess they're like "Oh, I've got the boobs, let's do this!" but completely forget the fact that Lulu's actually skinny with what appears to be a ridiculous augmentation and the graces of Yevon (or industrial-strength double sided tape) following her everywhere she goes. I personally am trying a Quistis cosplay, and it's not going well. My wig crafting supplies got lost in the mail, the skirt is a size 16 pattern and although I'm normally a size 8-9 it's too small, the vest thing she's got has a million vertical seams in it and NO PATTERN looks like it at all, and I'm too lazy to finish my Sculpey and silver/gold leaf Slaying Tail (one of her whips). It'll be a miracle if I ever get this thing done, damn my perfectionism T_T

I think is many of these cases there is a general disconnect between the optical nerve and the central nervous system... or a missing grasp on reality... the scary thing too is some of the more scary stuff, like the "naked girl" cosplays, the geniuses who show up in towels (I am cosplaying a bath scene!), but the scariest are the gundam body suits... I could post a few pictures, but for the sake of the reader's of this post's ability to create future generations I won't... Perfection when cosplaying is a good (albeit frustrating) thing. You are way better off doing it right.

[sacrilege]I never got into the FF games... I dunno maybe it's the turn based combat...[/sacrilege]

If you have an xbox, definitely check out Fable, Jade empire, elder scrolls and if you are a star wars geek too, Knights of the old republic (both). If you don't have an xbox..... ... get an xbox... lol I like their RPG's better than PS's they seem more open ended, and better thought out...

Also if you wanna take the real plunge into geekdom, give a live action vampire game a try, its fun, weird, but a lot of fun, there are usually enough people of the female persuasion that its has a less nerdy feel too!

These last couple of pictures have completely killed the whole Sailor Moon mystique for me. blink.gif

I don't know which is more disturbing, those pictures, or that it was them and not anything else BEFORE that that FINALLY disillusioned you to sailor moon... lol

Table top RPGS are amazing. Also, I am giving the thumbs up to Knights of the Old Republic I & II. Jade Empire is the same game with an Asian theme.

But back to the track of anime... I don't think I could ever cosplay or go to a convention. Unless it was to make myself feel better about myself. wink.gif

I kid!

If you have fun and no one is getting hurt, why not?

Never got into FF? ohmy.gif wink.gif Eh, I got into it years ago because of Squall. He's soooo hot, unlike the cosplayers that attempt him, they need to burn. But anyway, yeah, FF is turn based, it's not like everyone attacks at the same time (well, FFX-2 is kinda like that in a way). But the order is based on an agility stat that goes up according to what level you are, and in lots of cases there are items you can use to give one character a bonus in a stat, and abilities that make you get a stat bonus every time you level up, so it's not the same every time you play. Someone who starts out slower than everyone else can end up being faster than everyone else. Likewise, a properly trained mage character can end up being as powerful as a fighting character. I love it XD

I played KotOR 1 when I was borrowing an Xbox (I refuse to buy one, sorry, it's just my principle as a Nintendo fangirl. I'd be completely against PS if it weren't for the FF series, and here's praying that SquareEnix [damn you Enix!] and Nintendo reach better agreements and will start producing actual numbered FFs... and get Nobuo Uematsu back on the FF composing team, the man is a GOD). I loved that game, so many outcomes to choose! Edited by Allia22

Only watch Naruto and Bleach.

Also Avatar but not sure if that classified as an Anime.

lol yeah it counts it was anime before nickelodeon got it wasn't it??

I am curious how much Nick modded it before bringing it out... or did they make it themselves?? Personally I avoid just about anything nick plays especially after the travesty they made of Zim.

hi everyone out there, not my first time on these boards but hey its always good to read around this forum, i have gone onto this site i believe 4 times in the last 6 months and always on here for about a week reading what people have to say and finally joined. this is sorta my intro post so yeah...i lost my train of thought....anyways anime is pretty good and i see we got a few people who watch it. i also see a few people are going to the conventions but sadly everyone is way out there on the east coast or another country so too far away to meet up with them. currently anime expo is going on is going on in Long Beach, California. sadly it moved from its home in Anaheim, California due to it hitting almost 41k members last year so basicly broke how much anaheim convention center could hold so we needed a bigger place to call "home". strange it could only hold that many considering its across the street from disney land.

anyways yeah if anyone here is going to anime expo please post on here or pm me and lets see if we can meet up there.

as for my recommended anime for people to watch well if you like romance then watch ai yori aoshi. really this has got to be one of my favorite animes. i love how they go together and how the entire group acts together. yes its like many others out there but i dont enjoy the others the same as this one

if you want a quick action sort of show with bullets and have not watched it yet look into gunslinger girl. i love the OST for this anime and listen to it a few times a week.

a fairly new anime (its still in production) which is out and not licensed so its free for the watching "legally"(not 100% positive on this aspect) by the fansub groups is over drive. its an anime involving bikes so maybe some people wont like it. here is a quick description on a site which is free to watch non-licensed anime as they got taken down through legal reasons
QUOTE
Tour de France – it is the biggest bicycle race in the world. Now, a new achievement is about to be recorded in the history of Tour de France. The top racer is a Japanese boy named Shinozaki Mikoto.

“Why don’t you join our bicycle club?” said Fukazawa, Shinozaki Mikoto`s secret love.

Unfortunately, despite being a high school student, he doesn't know how to ride a bike. With no real idea of what the bicycle club is, he earnestly practices. After he overcomes this challenge, while he pedals along, something that was smoldering in his mind for 15 years ignites.

"I want to devote myself to bike riding."

Experiencing failure with his friends and rivals, he pedals towards becoming the top racer.

click the future link if you are interested in watching it or if you want to preview it. the site is free to use unless you want higher quality videos. the link has an id but it is in no way affiliated with my account on there and is just a link to that specific anime so i do not want people thinking its a pyramid scheme thing. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showseries?id=2917

a cooking anime which i found rather good was Yakitate!! Japan. involved bread making and was serious and funny at the same time and showed really how much work someone puts into their cooking. its a little long but not as long as some other ones (naruto) with 69 episodes but it was worth the watch i say personally

Azumanga Daioh was rather good i say. sadly its licensed so go out there and support the cause and buy it (or look by alternative means to find it wink.gif ) it was a fairly short anime which was made daily actually when it was being aired. it was a 5 minute "episode" every day for five days and on saturdays they showed the all of five together. the manga is funny also if you want to look into that one. only four books long as each one of them was one year of high school. really its rather enjoyable, its about nothing and WILL make you laugh unless you are inhuman

hellsing is what most people have watched at one time or another. a rather good series but was sort of broken up i say. the manga was much better with its storyline but they are now making hellsing ultimate which runs on the storyline of the manga so you get the full story. here is the description from online.
QUOTE
Hellsing Agency is a group of fighters that protects Great Britain and the Anglican Church from vampires and ogres. Led by Integra Hellsing, the heiress of the legendary Hellsing Family, the agency sets on the crusade with Alucard, a renegade vampire who fights for humanity.
really a must watch/read if you are getting into anime and have not already.

Hikaru no Go was another long but good show that was out. its about the game Go so its a game anime. you should like this one really but its a bit slow at times and the main characters getting into fights because they are rivals is a bit annoying at times i have to say. when you finish watching the show then look into the manga as you can continue the storyline for a little while longer.

Shakugan No Shana - a series which a lot of people seem to enjoy but doesnt have the following as many other big animes have. fantasy mixed in with a little humor, drama, and romance. you may like it or hate it

Read or Die - This is a must watch i have to say. you will either love or hate this anime/manga. the storyline does get a bit boring at times as it drags on here and there but overall it is very good and something you should look into.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.....well its a weird anime to say the least. has its funny points, "scary" and freaky a lot of the times, some things are just annoying when it happens but overall an enjoyable watch. basic storyline is that once a year every year one person will get killed by a curse in a village and one person they know will dissapear forever. this happens due to the town protector punishing the people who wanted to build and support a dam which would destroy the entire town and many others. freaky but this is another must watch. they actually announced this summer that they are going to be working on a second season of this so if you like this one keep an eye out for the next season.

well really i could keep on going with this but i am going to stop now. if people here are members of crunchyroll hit me up on there. my account name is Pibby on there and welcome to new people. just hate random invites i have to say truthfully because a lot of people treat it like myspace and invite everyone and their dog to make them look popular. but hey people on this site smoke a hookah so we are all related in one way.......yeah i lost my train of thought again but wow i wrote a lot in this post >.<

I'm definitely a 'anime geek'...I watch ALOT of Gundam, Robotech, Aura Battler Dunbine, Legend Of Crystania, Record Of Lodoss War, Vampire Hunter D, Yukikaze.
All pretty amazing!!!

Not so much into the mangas but more into the full size comics from the late 80's :
Appleseed, Area 88, Robotech.

I recently picked up and watched 'Wolf's Rain' on DVD...anyone seen this or follow the series?
I have the last installment if anyones interested...maybe trade for some tobacco. wink.gif
