Ocrap
Everytime I go to a Hookah Bar (rarely, its been a long time), i get massive headaches. However, when I prepare my hookah I always have a great session. I noticed that Hookah Bars use natural finger logs. Ive been using Ql's for a long time (started with Three Kings then moved on to Golden Ql). I figured the reason I got those headaches was because of the natural finger logs. Well, I just recently ordered a bag of Nours to test it. These coals are amazing. I can't believe my taste buds. I am now enjoying my hookah more than ever. My question is, why do I have bad experiences at hookah bars? What is causing my massive headaches? Also, I just ordered five bags of stargate coal from socialsmoke.com. Ive been hearing great things about this coal on this website. Are Stargate coals really that much better than all other natural finger coals? lazria
Not sure on the Stargates, as I haven't tested myself, but it makes me wonder what brand of shisha and coals that lounge was using? It could just be the amount of overall smoke in the place. Was it "smoky" inside? There was a small cafe that I used to go to that would get so much smoke in it that I would be driven out of the place with headaches.
Ocrap
Honestly, I have no idea what brand they use. They probably use a stronger shisha than I use. I like washed shisa (Al Fahker, Al amir). I wonder, maybe it is because its smoky inside. Although I remember at Gitana and Habibi Cafe I smoked outside. Must be the shisha then?
hookah hippie
Not sure about the headaches but stargate coals work extremely well
EvansLight
Next time your in there ask which one it is. Could very well be the tobacco, as alot of people can't handle the nicotine in the stronger brands. Nakhla and Al Waha are the strongest IMO, tangiers is up there as well. If its one of those, you are more then likely getting a nice dose of le nicotine, and are getting a headache from it. Try asking, see if what they use, and ask if they have any other brands they will use for you, or find a bar that will. The one i go to offers al waha, layalina, and starbuzz, meaning i can get unwashed, supposedly unwashed but really washed strength, and washed. Da Wilksta
I know when I go to the hookah bar, we ask them what kind of tobacco they use and all they say is that it's imported and won't tell us the brand or sell us any. I also know that i always like smoking at home becuase I like controlling which flavor i wnat to smoke and know that I pack it myself. But having a headache is probably the type of tobacco (washed v. unwashed) or you are just smoking it more than normal.
DVS
It depends on the hookah bar you go to, if its a bunch of idiots thinking hey hookah is cool lets start a bar, and have no previous experience or idea of what they are doing yeah its gonna suck and you would rather stay home. The hookah bars i went to in California were owned by people from the middle east with 30+ years smoking experience. Now where i live in Missouri there is a great bar in Joplin, and the hookah is good, good enough that i enjoy it, but i can tell that they need a little more time to tweak things and figure out exactly what they are doing. For the most part, a very good hookah experience. Overall i prefer the social atmosphere at hookah bars, to answer the original question.
Uncle G~Dogg
My only hookah experience so far was at Farrah's in Gainsville, Fl and I had no clue as to what flavor to order... I asked what was popular and was told the owners favorite was Lemon-Mint and they brought it over... I am a non smoker (Cigs that is.. Smoke Cigars on occation) and it seemed no matter how big a hit I took in I never felt like I was going to cough at all... While the flavor was great, I feel it could have been stronger... Not being up on the hookah lingo, I can only guess that this had to be unwashed shisha... No headache and only a very light buzz...
ezie
The hookah bar in my country use Al-Fakher and is run by some Arabs guys from dubai. It's cut throat price if you ask me. Last time i smoke there they charge me 10 US dollar but a week ago the prices went to the Roof 20 freaking US dollar now thats just Bull. This is why i want to open my own hookah bar and i don't care how many freaking years they have been smoking hookah but $20 for a sessions is just bull!. I can't complaint if they charge me 10 bucks but for $20 i have to say preparing my own hookah at my home is better than spending $20 on one setting. Peace thats just my opinion. Jamal
I prefer hookah at home, although I enjoy spending more time a hookah resturant due to the fact its a social gathering.
hookahlife
Hey everyone,I've visited a lot of hookah bars around the world, and one thing that I can say about all of them is that they don't clean their hookahs nearly as well as you would at home. Not to say that there aren't those few exceptions, but the majority just don't have the time to clean 20-50 hookahs a night with the same detail that we might clean our personal hookahs with; this is why we get headaches when we go to the bars, because the hookahs are dirty. Additionally many hookah bars do use lower end tobacco, and they really don't do a good job of packing the bowls, once again not enough time to do it right. Also I know the majority of hookah bars now, at least in our area don't allow cigar/cigarette smoking, but if the ones you guys go to do allow it, that can lead to some major headaches as well.Hope this helps
