smoker6146
I'm looking to tattoo the top of my right arm from my shoulder to my elbow, and I want to reference a few of my favorite musical artists/songs that have inspired or influenced me in some way. I want something with David Bowie's Rock N Roll Suicide and something with Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart. I'm having trouble thinking of a unique design that would reference those two songs though.I was thinking something like "Love Will Tear Us Apart" written curved on the top of my arm, a design relating to the two songs, and then underneath "cause I'm a Rock N Roll Suicide." Big Boss
I'd suggest you go to a reputed tattoo parlor and talk to one of their artists. If they know what they are doing they could draw something up in a few days.
smoker6146
I know I can do that but I don't want to. I want to get some inspiration from some other people and then come up with it on my own.
Big Boss
Ok... Think about the songs, Love Will Tear us Apart and Rock and Roll Suicide. What comes to my mind is a heart beign torn apart with razor blade cuts on your arm, suggesting suicide. I don't really know what to tell you. TheyCallMeDave
I'm a little confused as to the postings taking place... Also I don't think your link worked properly. I'm going to play devil's advocate really quick, and say that designing your own tattoo is, IMO, a terrible idea. Although tattoo artists are very able to facilitate most of your requests, it will NEVER look like exactly how you drew it. They aren't stencilists, they are artists. If you are going to work with ANYONE, make it the tattoo artist, not some hookah forum-goers giving their two cents. With that out of the way.... The only thing I can think of would be a visual representation of who you think david bowie is preaching to, this sort of broke down dead-inside rocker city type, facing whoever Joy division was singing to. With those two figures facing eachother solomnly, make a mural between the two of them like a barrier, containing imagery from the music video, mental imagery from the lyrics, pieces of the lyrics from each song, etc. But agian, your best bet would be to team up with your tattoo artist. jorlyfish
(Good) tattoo artists aren't just there to put your design on your skin. They know how things will age, what will look good with the part of the body you want to put it on (following musculature or bone structure), traditions and styles in tattoo culture, on and on and on. You say you want inspiration from other people... and I can't think of better people to get it from than reputable tattoo artists.
Miss Crafted
Everyone is on the right track telling you to go to an artist; however you should have a good idea of what you're looking for before you ask. Do you want script? Color? People? No people?
Allstar
How about a straight blade razor cutting through the heart. Two songs incorporated into one person's feelings.
Allstar
Honestly there is a lot of good advice here. Is this your first? A lot of us have work done. My last one, I had the idea for the flower and the saying to go with it. I took it to the artist I came back 4 days later and he showed me what he came up with. Realize you are literally paying for art work. Would you draw your own Mona Lisa and hang it in your living room. I wouldn't, so with a tattoo I go to the artist and tell them what I want and let them design it. They will listen to your inputs and work with you. MY second tattoo was completely different from my design because it wouldn't have aged well. Best of luck.
