Hose Problems

Recommended Posts

So, I have an MYA QT that I ordered back around October. When I received the hookah, I packed away the hose and used another one that I had. I finally decided that it was time for a new hose and pulled the one that originally came with the QT out. To my amazement, it won't stay in the hookah. It feel secure, but then falls out on my desk, like, 2 minutes later. I cleaned the gasket so I don't think that's the problem.

Any ideas?

Sometimes when a hose is new and still stiff it will pop out with the slightest movement. If the hose is stiff I recommend you hang it somewhere like on a door handle and let it loosen up little.

If that doesnt work then ou may want to experiment with different sized gaskets.

Hope this helps.wink.gif

I've had this happen sometimes with my bambino -- if there's any moisture around the hose port or on the gasket it slips out no matter how secure it is. Maybe make sure that the hose, gasket, and the stem are dry? Hope this helps!

make sure that your grommet is dry before putting your hose in or put the grommet on the hose first if that dosn't work heat up your grommet in hot water first then dry it off and put it on your hose then in the hole if that dosn't work it coulf just be that your hose end is too big and it wont go in tight

i dont know what to say if it dosn't work

The grommet may no longer fit on the mya hose securely.
Does the hose fall out of the grommet, or does the grommet fall out of the base?

The hose falls out of the gromnet. I've thought about going after the wooden part of the end of the hose with sandpaper, but I'm not sure that would help much...

Nah, that'd just make it smaller and make it less easy to clean effectively.

You might try just buying another grommet.
If you sand it down it may grip the hose better, but thats not reversible, whereas worst case you can replace the grommet for a quarter or so.

I can't remember if I read this here or not, but there's an awesome trick that I use because I have the same problems (mostly due to having a not-so awesome hookah). Get some teflon tape at a hardward store. It's very thin white tape, typically in the plumbing section. It'll almost always be in a blue and white case. Wrap it around the end of the grommet a few times, then when you stick your hose in, give it a twist and push. It'll hold for the whole session and them some. It's easy enough to get out and you only have to change the tape every few sessions or so.

Is the hose falling out of the hookah because its too loose or too tight?

1. Try the hose without a gasket if its too big.

2. If its too loose, use a roll of cheapo ($.49) electrical tape and just wrap a couple of revolutions around to make it fit right .

3. If the hose is "out of round" or oblong, so that its too big and too small simultaneously, try calling the vendor and ask for a replacement.

I don't recommend using duct tape, teflon tape, masking tape or scotch tape. I've always used electrical tape, I like it. Electrical tape is rubbery and has good frictional properties and peels off easily without leaving too much goo. It also tapes on pretty good and is waterproof-ish. Duct tape leaves a goo, teflon tape doesn't stick too well...no adhesive, masking tape gets wet and falls apart and scotch tape doesn't hold worth a shit and is slippery on the outside.
