so what do we think about mason jars?

As long as they're clean and sanitary with (again, clean and sanitary) screw-on lids, there shouldn't be anything wrong with them.

The only other thing is that you want to keep the shisha away from sunlight. Light is not good for teas, coffees, spices, shisha, etc. Don't ask me why... couldn't tell ya. If I wasn't so lazy I might google it. tongue.gif

Personally, I just keep mine in the original packaging + ziplock + large tupperware. I would invest in some vacuum jars, but I never keep a ton of shisha at one time. Usually just 3-4 flavors, then buy more when they run out.

Generally I buy starbuzz so I just keep it in the cans but throw the tobacco inside of larger freezer bags, squeeze the air out, and roll em up. But for the 100g that don't come with cans, and other tobacco's like Havana.. I buy Ball Jars, they're little short fat Mason jars.. They're like $3.50 for four of them at Wal Mart. They come with the standard metal canning lids with the seal, but I buy the plastic ones that are usually sitting right with them. I then put the metal seal into the plastic lid and screw it on. These are probably good for holding about 250g if you put it in tight, and if you do this most of your shisha stays soaked in the juices and you don't need to mix it up everytime. I just bought little white labels and a fine point sharpie and I slap the little stickers on and label em up. The glass never holds the scent if you rinse it with some water and the labels peel off the plastic lids no problem without leaving any excess adhesive. I keep all my tobacco behind my bar in a giant LocknLock tub. It works nicely.

This is what they look like

I picked up a set of glass "Condiment Jars" from Ikea, it was five jars for something like three bucks, and they each hold a little less than 100g each, so I keep those for display purposes, or for my favorite tobaccy to have at arm's reach. The rest of it stays in the original containers, which then go inside plastic freezer bags, and they all go inside my nightstand. I think as long as they're kept at a constant room temperature, airtight (very important) and out of intense light, they should be fine for up to... what, six months is the standard now possibly maybe?

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. I was looking at the jars with the metal clasps since I'm trying to get it totally airtight. Out of curiosity, which ones did you go with? Do you have a link?

I can't say as I do. :/
I was actually in there shopping for a futon and happened upon them pretty randomly, but you could find the same thing in a local Ikea, they've always got little containers like that around. My original plan was to go to thrift stores in search of some solid, decorative brown-glass containers since, like the above post said, sunlight is bad for dried organic substances. If you can't find them in dark-colored glass, I've seen similar containers in dollar stores, Wal-Mart and it's clones, and best of all, any kitchen store/ kitchen section of a department store.

But, the ones I ended up with are slightly bigger than two and a half inches high, and have plastic screw-on lids with liners on the insides to keep them airtight. Edited by The fabulous Ian

I been storing mine in the fridge, jw if thats a good way to store shisha or not.

I store mine in a tupplewear container, and I have that stored in my wine cellar. I dont know if you would want to keep the tobacco in the fridge. It could loose its flavoring from the cool air, stuff could leak on it, and your loosing humidity unless you store it with a wet clothe inside the container. You would be better off keeping it the way I have it, and store it in a basement closet or wine cellar.

In old skool rubbermaid/new skool gladware containers, scattered on the coffee table. Not in direct sunlight, but it comes close to being in a sunbeam in the morning tongue.gif

My hookah sits out all the time on my bedroom floor right next to my computer desk where I can smoke when I'm online reading Hookah Forum! I use Gladware for my shisha because they come in all sizes and are cheap enough that I can use them once and then toss them so I don't get any left over flavors. I keep my room pretty dark so sunlight isn't a problem. And honestly it doesn't sit around long. I enjoy it too much to have it sitting around going stale. It's gone before it can even come close.

could this be the reason Im getting a bad taste when Im smoking?

Down, down, DOWN! You animals...you anormals...this man has a problem!

Wow, man, talk about a thread hijack! These guys were going to form a lynch mob next, wearing Gladloc containers as hats!

The best way to do things around the Forum is to ask "why isn't my tobacco smoking well?". If you post asking if its from putting in the refrigerator because you suspect its true, you will get this type of response, not really addressing your question. There's another 50 or 60 things it could be as well and trust me we've all been there, making mistakes and learning how to smoke hookah better. Trust me, back in the day, I made lots of mistakes. I bought my first hookah, and noting that the lounge "cleaned their hookahs excessively". I smoked out of my hookah for three successive days without cleaning...I then noticed an ambient stench...from not cleaning my hookah. I figured cleaning it once a week was enough. Back then, you couldn't just go to the Forum and ask. You couldn't just ask other people, nobody knew nothing.

Bad Flavor when smoking:

Bad Flavor all the time, since you bought the hookah indicates a setup issue. Flavor that was good but has been getting steadily worse since you started, thats a maintenance issue. Cleaning your hookah or tobacco storage.

What kind of problems are you having?

My shisha sits in ziplock bags or in their original pouch (newer fumari shisha). This all is usually in a cardboard box on one of my dressers next to my hookah. I like to keep my hookah on display.
