Zemo
Got the hookah! It looks AMAZING! Like it belongs in a middle eastern museum or something! I'll try to take some picts as soon as I get a digi cam. Until then, maybe you guys can help with the one small problem I'm having. The grommets that were supplied for the hoses are too small! They don't fit into the hose recepticles on the stem tightly, and the hoses can slip in and out easily, without ever making a good seal. I wrapped some tape around the end of the hose, and the grommit. now it'll fit tighter, but it's not gripping into the hose recepticle, and so still comes out easily. Ideas? I was thinking of lining the hose recepticles with rubber cement, that should stay rubbery and grippy, right?
Zemo
ok, so I cut the lip off of the grommets so they sit further in the recepticle, and it seems to work alright! now, two more problems... first, one hose is EXTREMELY hard to pull from....the hose itself isn't clogged, somethings blocking it in the stem...I'll have to figure that one out...maybe poke a stick in there or something, we'll see. second, I can't get it to smoke right...either too harhs/burning, or not enough heat....tried both foil and the provided screen, no luck....two coals or one, no luck (golden coals)....with and without the windscreen, no luck....the bowl is a lot shallower than I'm used to, so maybe getting a deeper bowl will help....again, I'll let ya'll know! hookaman
Im sorry to use this topic for a unrelated question, but i am not able to start my own topics for some reason. My question is, from any al amir tobacco, old or the new ones, which are worth buying. Im not exactly looking for realistic flavor like strawberry has to taste like strawberry, i dont mind as long as it tastes good. please any help would be appreciated. MR Bubble
I had some hose problems like that before. If you can take the wood ends off of the hose it's even better. But the only hoses I know that you can do that to are the leather hoses that have the removeable cobra or sword tips. But what probably happened was that the wood tip wasn't drilled all the way through. You need to be careful so you don't damage the hose itself. I toof a 1/4" long drill bit (like you use to run cable through a wall) and bored it out. If you aren't set to do that, then it's best to just return it. If you are set to do it, you just need to find out which end is plugged. Sounds to me like you have a real, live, genuine Egyptian hose. There just isn't quality in many of them. ALso, if you do bore them out, blow it out really good from bothends or you will get a lung full of saw dust. As for the burning taste, I got a Syrian job a couple months ago and noticed the bowl is much smaller, resulting in the same problem. A biggfer bowl did take care of it too. However, it does seem to smoke hotter and I think it is the water chamber. It seems a little smaller than the Egyptian ones I'm used to and I think that is why it's not as smooth. Needless to say, I smoke my Egyptian one exlusively now. Good luck. MR Bubble

mushrat
Before you bore out anything... make sure your bearing in the autoseal isn't jammed in the hole or that the receptical isn't screqwed down too tight on the bearing... unscrew the recepticle (whatever you call the part where the hose plugs into) and check the bearing... mushrat
Also, if I had that many problems with a hookah i just shelled out a wad of cash for, the first people I'd call would be the place I got it from.

Zemo
Alight, well, the hose is free and clear, the clog wasn't in there. Tried swapping around the cups (if you have one of these hookahs, you know what I mean....the hose cup recepticle is removable), tried removeing the bearings....no luck still, so I determined that the plug was in the stem somewhere, lower than the bearing. Stuck a long thin piece of metal in there, and out came a small brown clump of what looked like dryar lint! sweet! it works great now! And about the burning, it was just a matter of matching the hole pattern in the foil to the size of the bowl. Smaller holes, and more space in between seemed to do the trick! I'm one happy camper now! pics are definetly coming later today.
mushrat
Grooven.... Don't want to tell you something you already know, but incase you've never had a auto-seal. When you clean it remember to clean the bearings I use pipecleaners to keep the holes clean. Also when you smoke using less than all the hoses, do a quick check of the open cups. I find that sometimes one of my bearings gets a little stuck and i'm leaking air when at first i thought i was just getting lousy smoke density. Smoke it in good health....
