Glass Funnel W/ Scali Mod

I just got my glass funnel and scali mod in the mail yesterday. It's beautiful, and I was SOO excited to smoke it. When I did, however, I was unimpressed. I KNOW that it's because I don't know what I'm doing as far as packing it, poking the foil, and heat management. I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some tips. Peace.

no, I just packed it like someone who didn't know what they were doing would pack it X_X. I'm giving it another go right now, so I'll take some pics.

Clean the upper edge of the bowl off and keep the shisha low enough not to touch the foil.
Poke holes just under where you have the coals placed (the coal placement was good though) So you will have two sets of holes directly under the coal.

After smoking a bit and the flavor just starts to fade rotate the foil a bit so the coals are over unsmoked shisha. Do that as the flavor fades until the bowl is spent. Odds are you will be spent long before the bowl

The second session was much better than the first, though not significantly better than my cheap clay bowl.

did you expect miracles? the phunnel will keep the flavor for a longer period of time but you shouldn't notice a huge difference...i didn't when i switched over. just the flavor stays longer and the bowl doesn't retain any smell from the mix as long as you wash it.

I don't expect miracles, but from what I've read around here, it's supposed to be quite a better bowl. I do like how easy it is to clean and that it doesn't retain smells and tastes. I just think I need to perfect my setup.

the flavor does not degrade nearly as fast is the main thing I notice. But that was always been inherant to the design of traditional bowls and the masses pretty much accepted it. After all they have been that way since the first bowls were made.
Eric (Tangiers) really went outside the box to come up with that. In my mind it is the single most original invention to impact hookahs to come along since the original design. Everything else was pretty much just material and shape differences but nothing that changed the overall dynamics of the smoking process.

His idea is here to stay and will only grow in popularity. It will also cause others to look at things differently and in turn they may come up with non conventional ideas and methods. I have a lot of respect for his way of thinking and think more should try it.

my first try w/ a phunnel was horrible, i tried (and went thru a small chunk of shisha) several times and finally figured out my way... different factors will affect it everytime, but once you have gotten the gist, it works. You have to find your style.

I love my phunnel, it works for certain types of shisha better than other types.

keep trying and tweaking - making sure the shisha don't touch the foil seems to be a big factor

Try smoking without the mod at all. See if that does anything. As I understand the mod, you use it to keep the foil from sealing the hole if you are using a small amount of tobacco in the bottom of the bowl.

Try smoking without the mod at all. See if that does anything. As I understand the mod, you use it to keep the foil from sealing the hole if you are using a small amount of tobacco in the bottom of the bowl.

I use the mod regardless of the amount of tobacco, as i always seem to get the foil sucking down and get too much oxygen and not enough smoke. I was always using the toothpick method which worked well, but i figured the mod was easier.

It basically turns the bowl into a normal bowl, in that all you need to do is poke holes and put a coal on and you're set. Everything you pull comes through the tobacco, like a normal bowl, but it still prevents juice from dripping down.

I dont do the rotate the foil method. You may want to try just treating it like a normal bowl. Poke holes in a couple rings around the edges, and just move coals. Thats pretty much how i do it.

just do what u would normally do with a bowl. I just got my phunnel and mod and the sessions have been awesome i dont get the foil on the shisha but it does stick to the mod lol. its only been a few sessions and my mod is alrdy black as heck lol.

I clean it really well after each smoke using a peice of steel wool and mine is still very clear. I suppose it doesn't matter, but that's just a tip.
